Professional Products CROSSWIND 455

Is anyone using this intake manifold on their 455? Is it better than a Performer for a vehicle primarily used on the street?

i dont think edelbrock makes an air gap for an olds i have a polished crosswind looks the same as an air gap. In theory it should work better than a performer cause its taller and because of the air gap under it. i think professional products makes a fuel injection kit for that intake but you have to have it drilled for fuel injection.

Just went to edelbrock site as I want an air gap f/ my 455, as I have one on my 'Vette, and only the performer, performer RPM, torker and Victor are there. I heard that the air gap was going to come out f/ the Olds, but I haven't seen it yet. I only heard that from guys on here though. Is it bullshit?

They have both a performer RPM air gap and a Torker air gap.

Sorry but no they don't. If you look at the pictures vs. the description they're out of sync. What you think is the Air Gap Torker is really the Victor, then the Victor for a 4500 series Holley. And the Big Block Air Gap RPM isn't out yet either, "still being tested" according to Edelbrock.

What's your application? I did the 455 for Panos, made 465hp and 524tq with a nearly stock Performer. PP is o.k. too but just have to make sure it's the right manifold for the application.

I went back to the Edelbrock site and couldn't find an air gap f/ the 455. Yes, the Torker looks like it, always been like that, and it works f/ like 3500-7500 rpm. I suppose I could "drop the hammer" from the house to work and back each day. LOL! But I would like to go f/ a cold beer now and then, and there are afew corners cutting through the neighborhoods/side streets to the shitty little beer store I go to. LOL! I'd love an Air Gap f/ the Olds motor!!! The Air Gap I put on my 'Vette made quite a difference, ofcourse hood clearance always becomes an issue, I even have to change plugs, 4 from the top and 4 from the bottom, and have no emissions crap either. LOL!

The RPM air gap isn't up on their site yet because it is not in production at this time. I called Edelbrock about a little over a month ago to inquire about a production date and the tech told me they were shooting for a first production run at the end of June. I'd love to use an air gap on the 455 I'm working on. I guess we'll have to wait a couple weeks to see if that's going to happen or not. I know they announced it something like 6-8 months ago, so it can't be a whole lot longer... *fingers crossed*

Again they do make an Air Gap for Olds, in a Victor only. Torker was never an Air Gap.

For the street a regular Performer would work well for most anything except a more wild combo. Cut and blend the divider and you're good to go. Most times if possible adding a spacer will help as well.

I didn't notice the descriptions being off until you said that. so they make 2 vitors for the 455 then. One for the 4150 base and one for the 4500 base.

This is the description of the RPM air gap as listed in the new catalog.

RPM AIR-GAP OLDSMOBILE 455
(1500-6500 rpm)

The new Edelbrock Performer RPM Air-Gap Oldsmobile 455 intake manifold is intended for aggressive street/strip
big-block Olds applications. Designed to optimize horsepower production from 1500 to 6500 rpm, this manifold
will perform best with engines that have an aggressive camshaft profile that will take advantage of the increased
flow this manifold can provide. This manifold features our popular Air-Gap design that separates the runners
from the hot engine oil, resulting in a cooler, denser air charge for more power. This manifold is compatible with
stock heads, but has been designed to work with our RPM cylinder heads #60519 for optimal performance.
Not compatible with EGR or spread-bore carburetors.
RPM Air-Gap Oldsmobile 455 .................................................. .................................................. ..
#7551*

Carburetor Recommendations:
Edelbrock Thunder Series AVS or Performer Series carb, 750-800 cfm (see pages 32-45).

Installation Notes:
Recommended intake gasket: Edelbrock #7284. Retention of OEM A/C requires bracket modification or

fabrication. Manifold height.: A-5.04", B-6.04", Carb Angle-3°; Carb pad height: 5.54". Port exit dimensions: 1.28" x 2.30".

Here is the air gap from Edelbrock. It is almost the same as PP, minis the Efi mounts.

I didn't even know Professional Products existed. The price on their manifold seems pretty decent. It is also cool that it has bosses for EFI.

This is what the Crosswind manifold looks like. I am considering using this, but I have concerns about how well made this is considering it is imported from a country to the far east of us. I too, have heard about the June release date for Edelbrock, but I will wait and see.

I'm also thinking about the pp intake. I called edelbrock last Thursday about their intake and it's been pushed back until this November, according to the tech guy. I to prefer to buy American but I went to buy a edelbrock carb spacer at schucks. It had a little sticker that said made in Mexico or china, I don't remember but it wasn't the USA.

Too bad these manifolds don't allow for our A/C brackets...I would love to try one out.

Good Grief! Now that new manifold isn't going to be available until November! They have had that in their "New Products" catalog since Feb. First they said it would be out in April...then May...end of June, and now November. I hope its because they are adding fuel injection bosses on it since they seem to be redesigning it.

And I now have in my hot little hands a 2010 Edelbrock catalog and it's in there like it's ready for sale. I wish I knew what they were doing over there.
