I may have mentioned in the past that I was growing ever unhappy with the veterinarian that I've gone to for decades. The father retired and the son took over and it hasn't been the same since. So I went to check out another place today that I really liked. Had a tour of the kennel, got a rundown of what they do with boarding dogs, sick dogs that come in for a visit, blah blah, clean place, nice people, better prices. They already set me up an account and I can get Tiger's records and bring them in and we're good to go. What a relief. There aren't a lot of choices around here and I was afraid I was stuck with the other place.
The vet was the only thing I got done. That's okay, I've been wanting to go over there and that's a huge load off my mind. Good enough for the day. Rain here and there over the weekend, I'll deal with it.
Okay gonna sit down for a bit then hit the sack. Happy weekend everyone.
Good evening guys,
My wife cleaned house today for our elderly, disabled neighbor, which she does weekly. On days she cleans I almost always go get take out so she doesn't feel like she needs to cook. Tonight we decided to go out to a little Mom and Pop diner near us that we frequent about once a month. They have a great breakfast menu that they serve all day, and that's what I had my heart set on. I was very hungry and ordered 2 of their Farmer's Special breakfasts, plus I ordered 2 extra eggs with each breakfast. So, between my two orders this is what I had:
8 eggs over easy, 8 pieces of bacon, 2 orders of hash browns, and 4 pieces of wheat toast with butter and jelly. Man was it good, I may not eat again for a week . . . Naw, I'll be ready for something sweet 2-hours from now.
Have been thinking about John (Koda) today and wondering if he made the long haul up to Racine without any issues??? Hope he gets some good pics for us!
Hope everyone had a great day and has a fun weekend!
I've been buttering bricks since 6am. Out of 1/2 & 1/2 (for coffee) went to grocery store. Ace didn't have any HCl (Hydrochloric Acid = Muriatic Acid) in stock - no biggies, not quite ready to wash all three columns. I've laid courses up to the second (middle) fencing cross-member on the remaining two columns - which represents ~1/2 the required height remaining for the last columns. I see an end to this formidable lime cycle in my not-too-distant future.

Norm - That's a long arduous project! Keep on . . . Pushing on!!! Can't wait to see the finished project!
Up at 215, work at 4, home by 930. Not a bad day of overtime. I spent the first part in inspection, there was only one guy to do it and there should be two, but I didn't sign anything so when we were finished I went up front and signed wheels until we were done. I don't know what our number was, but I don't think we spun 50 wheels, and I signed off 20. Also the lead got us all biscuits and we had a nice break for breakfast. Sounds like an ad campaign.
I headed for the Awful house but when I was in the turn lane waiting on traffic, I could see that none of my friends were there and the place was packed anyway, so I just came on home. Have been puttering around and after lunch I'm gonna go out and mow. If the rain holds off after 4 I'm going to wash one of the cars.
Chris if we don't hear from you again we'll know your cholesterol spiked to about a million. That does sound good, though. There used to be this server at the Awful house who would always open my jelly. I have the worst time with those square jellies with the foil top. She was the nicest. Sometimes someone else would open them and then make a big fuss about how dumb I must be. Well, the one server has gone and no one ever does it, so I stab the jelly open with my fork.
Norm the fence will turn out great and then you'll be thinking, gee, that was so much fun I think I'll make the fence longer. How's the Toronado?
I talked with my lender the other day on the phone. He didn't say anything about me having a stroke over his unreasonable requests, but he did talk to me the whole time like I was a child. Talked real slow, over explained everything, it sort of insulted me but I think it's kind of funny, like he was expecting me to fly off the handle at any moment. He said if I got him the stuff over the weekend he would look at it on Monday. Well the insurance guy was slow in getting a quote so he won't have it Monday morning, probably in the afternoon, we'll see if he puts up a fuss or lets it be.
Okay I think I'll have a quick bite then get to work. Biscuits were at 530. Have a good weekend everyone.
Headed out for an afternoon of boating with friends. We'll start on an inland lake, and if the big lake (Michigan) is calm, we'll head out onto it, and motor over to a beachside eatery, for food and beverages.
Chris - I new long before I began this fence project it was going to be arduous, hard work & most likely ~3 months duration. Nothing difficult happens overnight. I am really getting anxious to start (dry) fitting some of the fence framing boards & grab some SS hardware fasteners.
Mike - You're funny. If you ever hear me saying "...that was so much fun I think I'll make the fence longer..." call the medics & have me committed.
Dan - Your day sounds like a lot of fun - wish I were doing the same. Have fun!
Johnsonville Brats for lunch - oh yeah, Sheboygan baby. Where not only do they know how to spell Frank Zamboni, but they actually make use of them. Go Blackhawks!
It's doing okay. Quick start up, which was my biggest issue. It still hangs going between screens, not as much and not as long. Once in a while it hangs and takes awhile, maybe 30 seconds, and it's a little annoying, but by and large it's a huge improvement over what it was doing, or not.
If there was a way to make the print a little darker I'd try that. Especially craigslist, the letters are very thin, very small, and when you click on a link and back out it is supposed to turn red/pink whatever, you can barely see any change. Small stuff.
Got some mowing done today. Gonna go over to the shop in a minute just to see what's going on. We can stay up late tonight, but having gotten up at 0'Dark Thirty I don't know how late late is going to be. Eh who cares. No work tomorrow I can do what I want.
Mike - Regarding the print - I believe you're referring to the text you see on a web page (as opposed to print on a printer). At any rate, recall we changed the option (Visual Effects) from better (best) appearance (or Let Windows choose what's best for my computer) to Adjust for best performance - so, you did give up a little on best (better) appearnce. However, there are several ways you can make the text appear better. I use a customized performance option, but you could always change yours back if you remember how to get there.
If you want you can call me when you get a moment and I'll change it back for you or create a customized appearance for you - whatever you like, there's a couple other "options" to increase appearance, as well.
Good evening guys,
Went to a cruise-in tonight from 4-7. It was kinda lame, not really well attended, maybe 50 cars at most. Had a good time just getting the car out though. Seriously thinking of going to a judged show tomorrow in a town over in Illinois about 70-miles away. Probably not a big show, pretty small town, but it's a pretty drive down there. Supposed to be nice tomorrow, sunny and low 80's, good way to spend the day. Gonna get up early and see how I feel, probably need to leave around 0700 if I go.
Hope everyone had a great day. If I go tomorrow I'll definitely take some pics. It'll be a different geographic area from most of the shows/cruises I've been going to so there should be a different crop of cars there, at least that's what I'm hoping.
Mike, the easiest thing is press the CRL and + keys to zoom in and make the screen (and text) larger. I do that to zoom web pages to 120% scale for better viewing.
If you zoom too large, just press CRL and - to reduce the zoom factor.
Well, I got a little pink today, but it was well worth it, a beautiful day to be on the water. We ventured out into Lake Michigan, but the waves were too much for a 22' boat, the marine forecast called for 0-1' waves, but they were wrong. My buddy has a 22' Yamaha with twin 1.8L inboard engines. It has a jet drive propulsion, and puts out 360hp. It scoots really well. The intent was to take it up to Pere Marquette and beach it inside the breakwall, where the restaurant is located, probably a good thing that the water was too rough, as later, when we decided to meet up there, we found out that the waiting time was two hours for a table. So, we went elsewhere (and got stuffed). Over four hours on the water, a good day. Vette show at the Gilmore on Sunday. Gotta break out the sunscreen again.
Ray - I can relate to working in a crawl space. I removed all the old (15 - 20) center (interior) wood pillars supporting all the floor joists with concrete CBUs 20 years ago when I re-leveled this house.
Wow, a dual fuel combination unit - that sounds awesome. I'm sure those units work great. You're going to love that unit. The vent is going to be a challenge - messy.
Dan - Sounds like a nice day on the water. Fortunate you weren't waiting two hours at the restaurant.
Overcast and a little muggy out. I'm guessing it will be a rainy day so I'm planning inside things. After Walmart of course.
Norm the thing said Edge is up to date. I have a feeling at some point one of the "updates" loaded a magnet for ads because I get a little message down in the corner that says "waiting on xxx" and it's always an ad, or MSN. It took 8 minutes to fire up this morning, oddly enough it did an automatic update last night. I usually turn it on and then go do something else for a few minutes. Eh I guess I'll just live with it. If it gets too bad out in the lake it goes.
Kenneth I tried the Ctrl + thing and it works great. As an added bonus it blocks out all the ads that are slowing the computer down.
Hope you can make the show today Chris. Small shows can be nice, you can see everything and talk with everyone a lot easier.
Okay guess I'll do something. Hope everyone has a good day.
Norm and Mike - Well, the weatherman screwed the pooch. As I mentioned last night, the forecast for today was 82, mostly sunny, and only 10 to 15% chance of a stray shower. Got up at 0530 and was within 5-minutes of firing the car up at 0700 as planned and it started to rain. Came in and checked the forecast and radar again, and it was supposed to stop around me soon, but the bulk of the precip was south of me where I was going, and it was going to be raining steady in Ellis Grove, IL where the show is until around 1030 or 1100. Crap!!! So no show for for me, so much for best laid plans.
Turns out it rained tonight but not all day. So I went and mowed some more. Did a few things in the house, made a big pot of spaghetti, and talked with my Mom. Good, good day.
Norm that milk shake looks delicious. Did you have some sort of shrimp dish for dinner?
I'll be in inspection this week. I filled in Saturday but really haven't been there in weeks. That's okay. I have a few things to do after work this week so getting out a little earlier than normal will be nice. Thinking about going to my friend's in Alabama this coming up weekend, and I have a few things to do to get ready for that.
Bed time. I don't go in early when I'm doing inspection, so I can "sleep in" until 4 tomorrow. Terrific. Feels the same whether it's 2 or 4. It really doesn't bother me all that much. I supposed working midnight shift for many years sort of conditioned me. It sort of feels like I took a nap at work and woke up at 2 (4) and then went back to work.
Okay have a good night everyone. Hope the week starts out well for everyone.
Made it to HOCA nationals and back, see the thread in the H/O section. Minor issues and one unidentified noise that may be nothing. Needs less timing, I think, and some idle adjust.
Going to leave it alone for a while, I have to mad clean cause Mom is visiting this weekend.
Nice out now but it's been raining most of the day. In the bunker I have no clue what goes on outside. Not a bad temperature.
Work was work until after lunch. Big surprise, my lead wasn't there today so the bad lead went hog wild. I was in inspection, and the rule is it's a do and go. The bad lead will try everything he can to make us have to stay. Today his thing was to break down an extra 20 wheels. The rest of the crew left before we were finished, so mission accomplished for him. And then he stands at the door with a big smile, have a good afternoon see you tomorrow Mike. Total douche bag.
Koda those are good pictures. Looks like a good time. Glad the car didn't have any serious issues.
Gotta go to the library to make a couple copies and send an email. I was supposed to send all that stuff to my lender over the weekend, didn't quite make it. He sent a text this afternoon, wondering where it was. I called him and told him I was working on it, had a few issues but it was on the way. Somehow I get the feeling my agent and this lender guy are buddies. I guess that's okay, just feels a little odd at times.
You know I like the library, I don't have much need for it, sadly for the library, but I appreciate that it's there. I can't get past the one time I wanted to look something up and I walked around the whole place, finally asked the girl at the desk, where is the card catalog? She looks at me like I'm stupid and says uh sir, it's on computer. I'm guessing this person had never actually seen a real card catalog.
Okay off I go. The pressure is off, Monday is done. Workwise anyway.

John - Looked at the pics on the H/O sub-forum and loved them! Is there a picture of your car in the ones you posted, and if so, can you point me to it? Would love to know which one is yours!
Good evening guys,
Just got in from checking the oil in my 4-4-2 and looking for some input from you guys. It's hard to pull the dipstick on the darn thing because there's both electrical and brake lines in the way (1st pic) of pulling it straight out and up, and if you try to pull it to the side it binds terribly. The dipstick tube is already a little loose, so I have to be careful. My brilliant wife fabricated the tool in the 2nd pic, that allows me to reach down with the tool through the maze of brake lines and hook it onto the dipstick pull and pull it straight out, where there's no way I could ever get my hand in there.
Tonight when I checked the oil, it was about a pint low. The oil was last changed on March 8th, and I've driven it 540-miles on the oil change, 95% of those miles were easy ones, not much hot rodding. There is a very, very minor leak, maybe a dime size drop every week or two. There is absolutely no smoke upon start-up, even when it sits for 2 or 3-weeks. Also, no smoke upon hard acceleration. In the motor rebuild in 2016, the block did not need to be bored, so still running original pistons with new rings. Valve guides were replaced. Does using a pint in 540-miles seem excessive on these motors??? Interested in everyones' opinions? Thanks!
A pint doesn’t sound terribly unreasonable. You said car runs fine. Before you start over thinking this, it’s better to have oil than not to have oil and your oil consumption is probably minimal. But first, sit down with the CSM torque specs and a fistful of sockets & wrenches and tighten every bolt/nut. Heat cycles can cause fasteners to loosen up. So, before you get into a dizzy - spend a couple hours with some sockets & wrenches.

Norm - Thanks. Need to get up under the car anyway, and try to isolate exactly where my minor oil leak is coming from. I know it's dripping off the back center of the oil pan, but not certain if it's the pan gasket itself or coming from above the back of the pan? It's so minor I haven't been very worried about it, but if there's an easy fix I might as well gitr' done!
Could be a minor leak from the rear crankshaft bearing, rear of the intake manifold gasket or anywhere along intake manifold gasket, O-Ring which mounts distributor to engine (topside), oil filter housing bolts, oil pan bolts are suspect. Grab a tiny bottle of fluorescent oil/trans dye, add to oil and illuminate with black light (they sell both at automotive parts stores). Could also be valve covers. Tighten her up Hometown!

not to get too forward but, Its oil it gets in the engine it gets on the ground put some oil dry under it check the levels if it gets too fast deal with it, otherwise put a few onces in and lett'r buck

Norm - Thanks for all the suggested culprits. I have already been able to rule out everything you listed by visual inspection, with the exception of the rear main seal and the oil pan bolts. One of these days I'll get her up on stands, and see if I can see for sure it it's coming from the rear main or the pan. If it's the rear main I probably won't mess with it unless it gets worse because it's so minor. If it's the pan I'll check the torque on the bolts and tighten them up just a tad to see if it helps. I'm guessing the pan bolts. I'm much more concerned with the oil consumption than the leak.
Chris your oil leak is probably the main seal. For a 54 year old engine that still has some original parts, I'd call that negligible. Keep an eye on it and drive on. Consider this, a "good" Corvair leaks that much and no one bats an eye. Or, a 727 motor leaking oil is good. When it stops leaking that's bad; it means it's empty. I have a car that burns a quart every 300 miles. When I drove it regularly I only changed the filter. The oil changed itself.
Made the library and got everything sent. As soon as I got home and walked in the door we got a huge downpour. Only lasted a couple minutes but I'm glad I wasn't out in it. I'm tired of this rain. If I were king rain would need a permit.
Milkshake tonight Norm?
Jamesbo must have made an impromptu trip up to the lake.
Found out the Chrysler show that I go to in Australia, the one that was postponed from March to October, has been cancelled. Give you one guess why. I'm disappointed. I've emailed or texted with all my friends over there and they are all mad. They think I should go over there anyway and we do something else. Sounds fine by me. Just not walking 7 miles a day in Sydney.
And now bed. No overtime. Seems no one came in on overtime for inspection this morning. Gosh, the guy in charge acts like a dick and then wonders why he doesn't get any cooperation. Anyway, regular time tomorrow for me, maybe Tiger will want to sleep all night. Have a good night everyone.

Otto - You're definitely not being too forward, I asked for input. It is very minor leak and really not much of an issue except I'm seeing a little more oil consumption than I'd like, and wanted to let the guys know there was a minor leak that was contributing slightly to the oil loss.

Mike - Thanks for the input! Very well could be the rear main seal. The seal is only 6-years old, but I know that doesn't mean too much, and it's hard on seals when a car sits alot. If you saw my reply to Norm, I'm betting on the pan gasket, and it may just need a slight tightening, at least that's what I'm hoping. If it's the rear main I'm not gonna mess with it unless it gets worse. Right now just a very, very, tiny drop now and then.
Chris, I suspect that you have non-stock brake plumbing in front of the dipstick, like that hydraulic port block in your picture. I can pull my 67's easily, and it is a drum car.
The H/O went through a quart for a 700 mile drive this weekend, cruising at 60 90% of the time.
Speaking of which, I enjoyed the left most 72 spot with no one next to me, then no 73's showed up, so even more space. Thus, any picture from the driver's sides of them all, mine is in front. The one in the evening on Thurs night, mine is in the sun in front, which makes it a good photo for me personally.

John - You're right, front disc brake conversion during the resto in 2015/2016, multiple brake lines right in line of a direct pull. That tool my wife fabricated now allows me to pull it straight out between the brake lines where there was absolutely no way before that I could pull it with my hand. To put it back in I can get it started into the tube between the brake lines from above, and then feed it a couple inches at a time by reaching down below the brake lines and grabbing the stick itself and feeding it down in. PIA, but it is what it is.
Well, I'm sorry your car used as much as it did, but I guess mine using a pint in 540-miles isn't all that bad then. Thanks for pointing out how to find your car! Gonna go take a look here in just a second. Thanks for your input, much appreciated!
Chris - Consider modifying your dipstick by cutting off the top piece of metal above the point where the dipstick meets the engine orifice then get someone to tack/spot weld a longer piece of metal - maybe with a slight bend/angle to the extended piece of metal. A little ingenuity and you can create an extension to your current dipstick.
My 98 leaks a little too and need a little refill of oil sometimes but as long it,s
not getting worse i check the level sometimes. Had a little service with new
plugs ,cap rotor and points and this was needed.
Put on a phenolic spacer from Dashman under the carb to prevent heating
from manifold.
