Well my electric company gets only 17% of its electricity from there. Various SoCal utilities get more from it than mine does. They can talk about how bad nuclear plants are and pass legislation to prevent any being built in their state while relaxing in the AC powered by one in another state.

Capacity: 3,739 MW from three units. SRP receives 654 MW for its share of Palo Verde.

The humidity dropped for a couple of days, makes it a lot more tolerable outside.

Gonna re seed the old one in the fall and lock those walnut [size]brain animals on a new spot til the grass recovers

Hi everyone.

Another day of doing more than half the work. Out of 101 wheels I signed 52. I'm not in it for glory or to brag, but this will make the fat man look bad; he's always going on about how he carries the operation. I just like that I'm busy all day and not sitting around falling asleep. I have great wall guys and they are the ones doing all the work and making me look good. I told them that today and said I'd buy them lunch. So we went out for lunch and sat down and had a nice time.

Finally got to the tag office today and got the Mercedes registered. Also went to the tire store and got my tires ordered. They get put on Monday.

CW I like that word madam. Years ago when I was in college I wanted to take an extra class and have it added to my regular bill, which I was told I could do. When I went to register, some old bat was there and said I couldn't do that. I argued with her probably 10 minutes and she started in with more inane rhetoric and I just said loudly, Madam! She stopped and gave me a funny look. I said this is what I want to do, I was already told I could do it, and if you don't want to help me get lost and I'll find someone else interested in helping me. She put in what I wanted and never said another word.

Nice out. Been raining off and on all day. But the sun is out now. Supposed to be partly rainy all week. Probably coming from that storm in Texas. Eh, we could probably use the rain but I haven't mowed in a while and some places the grass is taller than Tiger. Maybe I could borrow Jamesbo's bush hog.

Okay have a great Hump Day. It's mostly over.

I'm taking the Toronado to work today to show off. My coworker has been arriving in a jet black 67 Camaro lately and I want to represent the Oldsmobiles.

Have a great day guys.

James, It depends on how much you use the saw. I like Stihl but pricey. I had a cheap 16" Craftsman for 25 yrs but hardly used it. After I bought 71 acres I thought I'd better get a better one. Stihl has 3 levels. I bought a middle level 18". No troubles, I like it.

I’ve had a couple new Husky 445 models the past 25 years. Very dependable for light to moderate. I agree with Greg. If I needed daily, regular cutting I’d go Stihl, but for a non-professional, non-daily work horse I’ve been very happy with Husky.

UPDATE: Ordering a new REMAN 6.0L diesel long block today. Had to make the hard decision rebuild or go with a fresh (upgraded rebuild). Opted for a new REMAN engine. Much easier and a warranty is always nice.

Hi everyone.

Long day at work. I was doing the inspection thing, and ended up working with another mechanic who couldn't sign anything off, so I got to sign his work as well as mine. Not really a big deal doing what we were doing, but it actually took a lot of time away from my wheels to sign his paperwork, so I was running back and forth all day. And I'm beat.

Jamesbo I would not suggest you get a Craftsman. Or a Poulan. I think Stihl is the best, but next up would be Husqvarna. At least they are expensive as hell, they better be good. And get a 20" bar.

CW hope work likes the Toronado. 67 Camaro's are nice, but don't have pizazz I don't think.

Well I don't feel like doing anything. Maybe I'll pop in a DVD and just veg this afternoon. We're working tomorrow to clear up a backlog of wheels so it's early to bed.

Okay have a good afternoon everyone.

Mike, Serious question [ or anyone else that wishes to chime in

let;s say [pretend] you are FB friends with an Ex Delta employee

And said former employee has an ax to grind

"If he says [post of FB]Glenn Hauenstain is a POS"

Do you think

A] I'm staying out of it
B]They don't even know if I saw the post
C] I should be held accountable for not defending him
D] none of the above

Thoughst on how this crazy stuff goes round and round?

Uh oh watch it Norm. It's coming to get you. And you just got the yard cleaned up from last time.

Jamesbo it all depends. Do you know Glenn Haustein or are you friends with him otherwise? Does the ex employee have the axe to grind with you or with GH? Did the ex employee post with the intention of getting a rise out of you? If I were a betting man, I'd say you're going to stay out of it.

Got a good rain storm a little while ago, but now the sun is out. All of a sudden I couldn't keep my eyes open so I went and laid down on my bed. I kept getting a nose in the eye so that's what got me up. Had a quick bite and I think I'll assume the prior position.

Jamesbo - Check this guys channel out. I stumbled onto him when my string trimmer was acting up and watched a few of his vids. I now subscribe and am on his list for the new ones he uploads. Smart guy and articulate. Personally have the Stihl MS260pro nice little all around saw, always starts and parts when needed are easy peasy to get. They have nice quality materials and selection for tooth configuration on the saw chains as well.

Enjoy and let me know what you think.

Mike- That’s correct. Speaking of chain saws. My Husky took down a towering 60’ Ash tree last hurricane Dorian when it was uprooted but still standing; and, huge Oak tree limbs from Florence the prior year; and, Matthew the year before that. $hit is getting old.

Hurricane Isaias is headed for ARGH, N.C., Interesting. So Norm, of the two bass that you caught, one smelt? Did it smell like fish? One of my buddies worked for Hastings Manufacturing (engineer) during the last recession. Stihl approached the company in order for them to make piston rings for their power tools. A Stihl rep. told him that for commercial applications, their products will wear out, but for the homeowner, they will last a lifetime.

Norm, you reminded me about my 2005 F150 (5.4 gas- different animal) I ended up putting all the variable valve timing stuff (about $550.) in parts myself, then found it needed sparkplugs which are known to break off, then it had a bad vibration. Replaced loose L/F wheel bearing. Vibration still there- then replaced rear U Joint.--- Bear in mind I had to do all this after I had replaced it and wanted to sell it. If I had sold it 2 weeks earlier I wouldn't have done it. Everything turned out fine and now truck is gone, got $5700. for it. Anyway a 2003 truck up here would probably get junked before someone would put in a rebuilt engine- difference being the rust issue up here in Michigan ! You will have a good truck again and you know all about the rest of it so I can see why you would do it. I guess vehicles in NC don't get very rusty.. A friend of mine had a 2000 S10 regular cab short box with a 4 cyl auto. It had about 225,000 miles on it and he loved it as a little runabout, but it was so rusty the doors wouldn't close anymore. So he and his wife was going on a vacation with his full size truck and they decided to take a tow bar with them. Sure enough he bought a S10 down there and towed it back. He gave a grand for it- it needed a head gasket. He marvells about how all the bolts come loose with a wrench under it!

Hi everyone.

Work was good this morning. We knocked out a hundred wheels before lunch then went home. Not bad for our first Friday in months. Things are changing at work. Everyone will be back and off leave on Monday, so the place will be full of people. We are going to start 12 hour shifts, two days a week and alternate Wednesdays. My days will be Thursday Friday. I have to be careful not to like that too much because what I really want is my whole 40 hours back. But how cool is it to have 5 days off in a week? Not long ago I said if I had a 6 day weekend it wouldn't be long enough. I almost have the chance to find out.

Jamesbo I don't think Glenn Haustein would expect you to speak up for him if someone else badmouthed him. He's a big boy he can take care of himself and besides, anyone who does that runs the risk of looking like a kiss-***. What does he care what an ex employee thinks anyway.

Norm why is the truck's engine kaput? I thought you just needed an ECM. Unless the ECM made things run so amuck that it detonated the whole engine. Where is the rebuild coming from?

Had a quick rain shower with some thunder and now the sun is back out. Need to find something to do other than sit on the couch and nap. I'll think of something.

Have a good afternoon everyone.

My local Ace Hardware has gone to the complete line of Echo. A couple years ago I needed a new chain and I elected to upgrade my chain bar, as well. I purchased a new Echo 18" bar and new Echo chain and I'm very happy satisfied with them both.

Mike & Greg - My truck has no rust. It was not the ECM. I previously stated it was the HPOP. The plot thickens a little. The engine company sells both the short block and the long block 6.0L diesel (rebuilt). Essentially, the delta between a short block & a long block is this. Short block is basically from the top of the block up & the long block is block to the top. I mentioned the plot thickens. In both cases, those items are NOT plug and play. So, neither do they include the HPOP nor do they include the fuel injector oil rails. Additionally, there are many other items each does not include e.g. exhaust manifold are not included, turbo is not included, etc. etc. Hell, an EGR isn't even included. I'm not going to do an EGR delete. The engine runs cooler w/ an EGR. Short block ~$6K, long block ~$8K, plug & play with new turbo, HPOP, EGR, injector oil rails, etc. ~$13.5K. So, we're going to go with my garage rebuilding (repairing) what needs to be repaired ~$7K.
I need a new HPOP, there are leaks from the fuel injector oil rails on both sides and we think the back exhaust rail, as well. There will be a little more tied up on the labor, but they'll replace the items which require replacing. Sometimes it's a coin toss, other times it's luck of the draw, and sometimes you just do the best you can. The vehicle is 17 years old, no rust, drive train, AC, body all mechanically sound. There is 180K miles on the truck. I'm not going to "bullet proof" the truck. I don't use the truck for HD towing, I'm not using the truck for construction work, it isn't being used as a "work horse". I've been able to get 180K miles on the stock engine w/o having to bullet proof anything. I have replaced the fuel injectors on both sides (~135K miles), new alternator, new ICP valve, new IPR valve, I have a 4" lift on the truck, the exhaust I opened up to 5" diameter, I installed a new FICM last year, blah, blah, blah. I paid $48K new in 2003 (8' bed, diesel, Lariat, Super Crew, 4x4, 4-on-the-fly, the works). I have $2400 on new tires & wheels alone. The same 2020 truck outfitted the same as my truck ~$62K. I'm very partial to maintaining vehicles and driving them until they fall apart. I'd prefer to spend ~$7K as opposed to $62K. Since I know this vehicle inside and out, and I don't know any other "used" vehicle, I'll take my chances with a vehicle I already know inside and out - so, I'm not interested in buying a used truck. If I can get another 180K miles or even another 100K miles, I think $7K is money well spent. Nothings ever perfect - who knows, I could drive it the first week after these repairs and the transmission blow up. Live & let live.

Hm, it seems if you move to Michigan that will be what happens! (Sorry Greg). Actually, I tell people that our cars in Illinois rust up to the windows. Norm I think you'll be money ahead having your existing engine redone. And if the trans does go out, you'll still only be 13K into it and still way ahead of buying a new one. By the way, I thought you needed an ECM because when you mentioned HPOP I didn't know what it was, I thought it was Ford-speak for ECM. I actually looked it up and learned what it does.

So Tiger and I went out to do some trimming along the wall at the lake. Looks a lot better. There's a void in the wall where concrete steps once went down into the water. Now it's a crumbled mess that's going to get blocked over and filled in. Any way Tiger goes down there and drinks out of the lake. Today he lays down in the lake and is drinking like he's the laziest boy ever. He had to stay outside until he dried off. I hope he doesn't start smelling like lake mud after just having had a bath.

And now, vegetable soup.

Mike - It's no big deal. I miss things all the time. I was wondering where I was talking about an ECM - you just missed an earlier thread (above). Yeah, I'm glad you think I'll be money ahead - I think so too. I'm getting plenty of miles on the '71 CS convertible. Too bloody hot to ride the Indian and I am basically only playing golf or going to the grocery store right now anyway. The Cutlass needs a tune-up. The idle is dropping off and it's developing a little hesitation. I did a full tune-up when I replaced the intake manifold gasket, new oil pump, new oil pump pick-up tube/screen, pulled the distributor, cleaned/rebuilt the distributor, etc. in 2018. I installed brand new plug wires last winter while I did the complete suspension rebuild. So, I'm going to go ahead and do full tune-up this weekend.

I started cleaning the North side of the house yesterday (the side where mold/mildew accumulates) via power washer and hand-held 30' nylon wand/brush. I thought I'd see how well the power washer would work on cleaning the driveway. HOLY $HIT - it works fantastic. My power washer delivers 3500psi. My concrete driveway looks brand new! Wow what a remarkable difference. It will take me quite some time to power wash the entire driveway as it's about 100' long (wrap-around). It makes the entire home & landscape look remarkably/noticeably different.

Isias has been downgraded from hurricane status to tropical storm status for the East coast of NC.
Dan - the current path has moved it further inland from Argh, NC to Anguish, NC.

I just read thru my last post and saw I didn't say were my friend picked up his rust free S10- It was Texas.
Wife and I spent our honeymoon in a Hurricane in 1985. Yep, went to Clearwater Florida in my 1980 Phoenix and a Hurricane came. It was about August 28th. Problem was my new wife's grandparents were in a mobile home there so we felt we shouldn't leave them, so we spent 2 nights in a school gymnasium with them and many other blue heads. It was a long story and we finally made our escape. The hurricane never made land, it stayed out in the ocean. Scary stuff!! I wish you all well.

A friend lost his entire home, all personal possessions including their motor vehicles during hurricane Andrew (1992). We worked together @ Buffalo National River, AR, for 4 years, he was Director of Wildlife Biology. He took the position of Everglades National Park Deputy Superintendent (1990) & moved his family to Homestead, FL. Andrew was a Cat 5 hurricane. Thankfully his family suffered no serious injuries. Like many, his house ended up in pieces somewhere in the Everglades.

Good morning everyone.

Beautiful out. No rain for the next few days, I love it.

I don't have a hurricane story. Except for the last one in the gulf, I can't keep up with the names, looked like it would wipe out Pensacola and I pleaded with my Mother to come to my house before she was swept out to sea. She resisted, saying my sister said everything would be okay. My sister is the type to stick her head in the sand, out of sight out of mind. My Mom is the first to criticize her for this, so listening to her made no sense. I was convinced I'd have 7 less family members, but as it was, the hurricane took a quick turn and Pensacola barely even got rain.

It's Saturday so it's work on cars day. I need to continue taking out the interior of the convertible so I can get to the top cylinders and fill the lines with ATF. The pump is full but the lines are empty so it won't do much, and certainly won't bleed. While everything is out I'll clean and repair and do something about the non-working speakers that are behind the backrest looking right into the cushion. I don't know if they don't work or I just can't hear them. Maybe that's why the good doctor said the radio didn't work. He couldn't hear the speakers.

Well have a good day everyone. Norm have fun with the pressure washer. Seeing such dramatic results does lift one's spirits.

Looks like you will be out of harms way Jamesbo. Are you "up north" as well Mike? Monday I see a P.A. at the docs office for a follow-up on the Rhizotomy. I get to tell her/him that it didn't work. I'm debating as to whether or not to continue with the injections, as I'm not getting the relief that I expected. Like my primary Dr. asked "when are you going to retire?" That's probably it in a nutshell, need to get off of my feet. Standing in one place for eight hours a day is wearing on me.

It's breaking apart & moving further inland towards Aghast. Absolutely wonderful news.

Hi everyone.

Beautiful out, gonna paint some trim for the bedroom today. Might even deconstruct a little of the carport to see how it was built.

Norm I'm glad the hurricane has broken up. Dan I'm not near as up north as I used to be. Jamesbo is correct, I'm just south of Atlanta.

We don't seem to be gaining any on Tiger's scratching. He does okay when I give him medicine but towards the end of the 12 hours it wears off and he starts with the scratching and biting. It's like we start over every single time. The vet wants to keep him on the medicine until winter, I think when this medicine is done I'm gonna tell him to come up with a new plan.

I'd say my weekend continues, but I'm going to go into work for a couple hours in the morning to help out the guys coming off leave get back with the inspection thing. It's easy to forget how to run the machine and what all needs to be looked at. I'm not going to stay very long.

Okay have a great Sunday everyone.
