Okay, not sure why that happened. Cool here. Not an enthusiast but it's doable. It looks like Tropical Cyclone 16 is going to give us some rain tomorrow.
Today was the most pitiful, sorriest Friday we've had since I've been in the department. Last week two of the biggest asshats went and moaned about how the brake side always gets to leave before we do on Friday. So yesterday the lead said no one leaves on Friday, we all leave together. Then he takes off today. People were slow, not doing their work, we left at the regular time. Sad, really. Next week it will probably be the brake side leaves early.
Might go back up to work tonight and blast those other two rims I have ready. It's going to be too cold to paint pretty soon and that will be that. I don't have anywhere to paint inside that it would be warm.
Get to stay up late tonight, yay. We'll see what the weekend brings if it's going to rain. Eh, who cares. Me and Tiger can just cuddle all weekend.
Jamesbo it started raining last night. You know we had weeks of no rain and record temps, which I loved, and the first sight of rain seems like it's been raining my whole life and I'll never see warm weather again. Kind of like when you're on vacation for a month and as soon as you step back into work it seems like you never left. Ug.
So I've been needing to get Xrays done for the chiropractor for quite awhile. The place I was supposed to go around here was going to pull a fast one and bill my insurance as well as get payment from the chiro. So today I went up to Marietta to the main office and got them done. While I was in Marietta, guess where else I went. Yup, my favorite pizza. Man I love when a plan comes together.
So now, it's disgusting out and I don't know what to do. Can't paint, I need more paint. Don't feel like going out again, so I'll think of something. Maybe talk on the phone for awhile.
We had a nice fall day today, sunny and in the low 60's. Last weeks car show would have benefited from today's weather. Cut the grass, cleaned dead bugs and spider webs from the house, as they tend to accumulate around the outside lighting. Washed the outside of my living room windows, the squeegee made quick work of it. Vacuumed the carpet. Took some rubbing compound to the passenger side mirror of the Hyundai to remove house paint that somehow accumulated there
Beautiful, beautiful day out. Got the back door open and the AC off. I was afraid we were going right from summer to winter.
So I see on the dreaded facebook that my neighbor has killed himself. Today is his birthday, 29 years old. This is the guy who's dad was killed by my other neighbor some years ago. They all lived across the street from me then after the dad the mom moved and remarried. This guy moved back with his wife and stayed until he couldn't pay the rent and got thrown out. Not sure where he's been the last year or so, been a little miffed that he hasn't kept up with me, I was pretty close with the dad and loved the whole family. He had a girlfriend who sounds like she has a shady history, and is pregnant, a few demons going on as well. I got a voicemail from his mom and I dread calling her back. This whole deal just sucks.
And on that happy note I'm gonna go heat up the rest of my pizza and start winding down for the evening. Rumor is this is the last week for two early.
Wow, sorry to hear about your neighbor, Mike. There sure is a lot of pain and sorrow in this world isn't there?
--Friday evening I had 4 of my old work buddies come up with some side by side atvs. We went about 60 miles on the trails on Saturday, had a great time but they went too fast for me, I was riding and white knuckled. We took off and spun gravel and got up to about 45 on our 25 MPH road on the way out. I had to ask him to slow down as I have been the biggest objector to people going fast down our road- I have yelled at more than a few.... I hope no one saw me as a passenger in this atv! Anyway I guess it showed me how even 60 year old -law abiding old men assume that it's OK to speed down our little dirt road. I always thought it was just young bucks who do that sh*t....
-- Well, boats and Cutlass are put away for their winter nap. Old truck is still out. I will use that until the snow flies. Always a bummer to get ready for winter. Shoulder is about 95% still hurts a little but mostly fully functional. Take care!
Beautiful out, but rained this morning. I wouldn't have known that but I ventured outside the bunker and walked past a roll up door with windows in it.
Had an impromptu two hour break today. We ran out of nitrogen. You'd think that something we use a lot of, and is important to the operation, would be monitored a little closer. But instead a frantic call went into the nitrogen supplier and they sent a truck out to fill up the tank. Sheesh. An outsider would have thought we never did this before.
Finally changed the oil in the truck. Stopped at Lowes on the way home to get a 15mm socket. I looked high and low and couldn't find one or a wrench. So that job is done. But as I was cleaning up I moved something and found a socket set with a 15mm socket in it. Oy.
I wish Adrian would duck in and tell us what his plans are for returning to California. If he's going to be in the airport here for a little while I'd try to go up and see him. I wish my trips over to Australia could be as action-packed as his trips over here are.
Okay time to hit the sack. Stayed at the show last night until after 8, got into bed after 9, and the alarm came early. Gonna do a little better than that tonight. Nothing at the show worth writing home about, it's the last one for me, because I'm not going to make the real last one next week.
So have a good evening everyone, Hump Day is upon us.
My 2003 Ford F250 6.0L diesel (175K miles) started acting up. Running like it is hitting on fewer than 8 cylinders. I took the Indian motorcycle for a ride & grabbed a cappuccino to get my mind off it for awhile. Came home & pulled the OBD-II DTC codes. Nothing glaring - couple miss communications w/ the power window motors and another EGR "A" flow insufficient. I've replaced the EGR valve twice on this vehicle - maybe it's going again? These beasts have a known issue w/ the EGR valves. I have one DTC code which I cannot find anywhere on the Internet (U0633) including several of the Ford forums. Hmmm....I'm almost suspecting the ICP (Injection Control Pressure) sensor. I've been (more or less) waiting for the day it would die, since this is another known issue with this vehicle. I have a new Ford ICP I purchased a couple years ago & maybe it's time for me to spend some time under the hood. I've read about doing the R&R on this ICP and from all information I've read it appears to be a real stickler. Argh! Glad the '71 CS is running great. I'll probably tackle the ICP very soon. There are a couple tell-tale diagnostics I can perform to ensure I'm heading down the right path before I climb up under the hood.
I have 14 very large Ligustrum (privet) plants (12' tall) which border the front of my yard's landscape. I spent the past week trimming them - quite the job. I've pruned ~20 of my ~40 Azalea plants. Trimmed all (8) of the Chamelia plants & cut back nearly all of the Fan Palms.
Today I got on the roof and began replacing and re-securing (with roof cement) the nearly 25 shingle tabs which blew off during hurricane Dorian & tacking down (with roof cement) any shingle tabs which looked suspect to not withstanding another hurricane event. Since I found every single shingle tab which was blown off, after replacing each one (like putting crossword puzzle together) you can't even tell they were blown off.
I have a gallon of Thompson's Waterseal Waterproofer Plus Masonry Protector I'm going to apply to both chimneys tomorrow afternoon - after playing 18 holes in the morning.
Thursday I have another golf tournament w/ a shotgun start @12:30PM.
Norm, I would use that Thompson's water proofing. When I was on the PM committee at 1st Presbyterian Church [downtown] someone before our group tried it on the bell tower When moisture gets behind it and freezes it popped off chunks of limestone

I believe you meant to say "would not use"? Interesting. I completely re-tuck-pointed both chimneys & nearly rebuilt one of the chimneys ~18 years ago. I definitely get moisture intrusion from the bricks/mortar - probably more so the bricks. The bricks they used on both chimneys (1930) are not the smooth type faces - but instead are quite rough & porous. I really need to apply a protective material of some form/type. Good to know though, James. Thanks. You have any other recommendations other than Thompson's?
Norm, good luck with that Ford truck.. I hate that kinda stuff on a older vehicle. My 05 5.4 is a real pos. Lots of noise from the variable cam timing setup. Funny though I drove my buddy's 2010 Ford with 5.4 and it is just as noisy, it has 124,000 mine is 195,000. But when you are retired you can dink around with that stuff. Cheaper that taking to a dealer- usually..... I have a 2010 Impala that set a code for the evap emissions system. I was still working then so I took to dealer. They replaced a part and charged $600.00. A couple years later after I retired same code came back. This time I checked into it. I found that there was 2 items that could cause the code, the one the dealer replaced and another. I ordered both parts from Rock Auto and they were delivered for less than $50.00. The one they had replaced a few years earlier was right on top of the engine and literally took 5 minutes to change- 2 10mm headed bolts and a electrical connection! That was what I was charged $600.00 for?? Yep.... The other part was under the car behind the left rear wheel, that one I had to actually raise and crawl under the car. but still only took 1/2 hour or so... been fine for a couple years now. So if you have the time it's worth messing around with.
Greg - Indeed. Dealership service departments (IMO) are absolutely pathetic in their service charges. Makes my blood boil when you hear of stories such as yours.
James - Yeah, I forgot about Siloxane. That's the best stuff agree. I need to find if there is anyone nearby who sells it. Thanks.
James - I'm glad I brought up I was sealing my chimneys and thanks for responding regarding the Silane/Siloxane. I just purchased one gallon of Rain Guard Water Sealer CR-0356 Micro-Seal Clear Penetrating Silane/Siloxane Professional Grade on Amazon for an awesome price and free next-day delivery w/ my Prime account.
Good day at work. Nothing really worth mentioning, stopped for gas on the way home, washed the black truck and the Corvair this afternoon. Honestly, it didn't really help either one of them, but heck I did it. Tomorrow I'll vacuum them out.
Beautiful here, a little cool. Hope it's nice in Florida this weekend. Looking forward to going to the show. I haven't participated in a car show with a car in years. Also gotta find my valve cover racer, so far I'm unbeaten. My secret? Aileron pulleys with Teflon coated bearings.
Tonight has the opportunity to get into bed extra early. I might just do that. Tomorrow is my Friday, maybe I can talk the lead into letting me leave a little early. I know he let another guy leave early a couple Fridays ago, I might mention that in passing.
IMHO Thompson's formula has changed and it doesn't penetrate just seals in water that becomes ice
James - Indeed, I agree w/ you. I had done some reading on Siloxane/Silane previously but couldn't find any around the area. When you mentioned it (again), it rang a bell and I had already formed the conclusion it was better than Thompson's (I just couldn't find any).
So (because I'm a chemistry freak), I looked up the delta (MSDS sheets) for Siloxane/Silane & Thompson's.
Thompson's is a paraffin wax - and, we both know a paraffin wax is not going to penetrate - merely coat the surface (as you are suggesting).
Silane/Siloxane is very similar to the rudimentary precursor (element) silicon. Since (by way of its formulation and constituent elemental properties) it very closely resembles silicon (i.e. sand - for all practical purposes), it will have far greater affinity for penetrating masonry.
Heh, heh, a Star Trek next generation fan. Not that I would know. Pretty bad that we have to have this new drivers license, I'll get mine the next time that I have to renew it. But really, a passport to fly within your own country? Seems that is why we fought the cold war, as to not have that way of life. To be questioned about every movement that we make?
Mike, what is your valve cover racer?
Dan, Boy I'll bet you have some big waves over there! I am amazed about all the erosion stories about people maybe going to lose their lake front homes into the lake! I am a Star Trek Next generation fan. It's funny how many series I completely missed when running in their prime but then discovered in reruns. Next Generation. Seinfeld, Friends, Big Bang. Speaking of TV I refuse to pay for satellite or cable and just have a antenna. But it is amazing how much I enjoy reruns of Andy Griffith, Wagon Train, Chips (for the cars mostly), Columbo, and others. It is a little sobering though when watching those shows you know most of the actors except maybe the young kids are now dead..
--Yesterday and the day before the wife and I trimmed the pine trees that are along side the house and down the driveway. Wow we were both beat. But sure looks good!
Greg, after I logged off of here last night, I flipped the tv on, and guess what was in progress on the BBC? Ol' Picard and friends. Yes we have a lot of erosion going on over here. One street on Lake Michigan @ Pere Marquette park, was getting a washing by the waves, they normally close the street in the late fall/early winter because of all of the sand and snow that builds up. They closed it a couple of weeks ago. One goober built his McMansion 30' from a bluff, just got moved in a week ago, and now his house his 10' from the bluff. He wants an emergency permit issued so he can get a retaining wall built. If he has any history of the Great Lakes, then he should have known the this could happen. I'm a little peeved that the State allowed him to build his house this close to the water. There were so many homes and property lost in the 70's and 80's due to high lake levels, that they had changed the permit application to prevent this. My guess is that over the years some $$ were waived under a politicians nose, and the laws were changed.
Beautiful evening, but dark too darn early. Was just out vacuuming the truck and the car. Closed the last door and when the dome light went out I realized I couldn't see a thing. Hm, time to go in.
Work was good, we had a nice steak and potato lunch. Finished up a bit early and stayed till the end. Don't see the point in hurrying just to sit around. That's it for me, I'm sure they won't miss me tomorrow.
The Corvair world, and other club types also, have valve cover races. You make a race car out of a Corvair valve cover. There are specs it has to conform to, can't be over 4 pounds, but it can look like anything you want. Some people make outrageous cars, it's all fun mostly, there's a guy that has a track. Think of an adult Pinewood Derby. My valve cover is smooth, no decorations or add ons, and is painted. So far using airplane parts for the wheels makes it the fastest. I thought some time I'd build a giant racer out of a Slant 6 valve cover and take that to show them.
Norm our drivers licenses apparently already fit the bill for the Real ID, so we didn't have to do anything. It's the dumbest thing ever. Since the dawn of time our DLs have been just fine, and suddenly some jamoke comes up with an idea to save his job, and we're all immediately criminals.
Got some cleaning up in the house to do, then get everything together. Tiger goes to jail in the morning and then I hit the road. I don't think it's more than 6 hours down there, should be a nice day for a road trip. About the only thing I eat on the road is McDonalds cheeseburgers. Easy to eat while driving and they don't make a mess.
Well have a good evening everyone. It really feels like Friday to me.
About 5 years ago, the super model told her oldest brother he could park his 53 GMC deluxe cab truck in one of my garages for a while, For 3 years, I've told him, I need the room and to get it out of here. He's a lawyer and has given me the run around Sooooooooooooo, today the hook [tow truck] is gonna haul it down town and unload it right in front of the small office building he owns. I hope it get booted. Serves the MF er
Headed norte so my cell service might not be so good
James, sound like the old saying, no good deed goes unpunished. You let him put it there ( good deed) then you needed it out and he ignores you... So you take it out and he will prolly be mad cuz he's a jerk. Hopefully you won't be punished too bad...
Uneventful trip to St. Augustine, and saw -a bunch- of people I hadn't seen in years. We had a nice dinner and my valve cover racer finished the evening in 3rd place. It wasn't nearly as fast as it used to be, probably too much dust built up on it. I may need to revisit the IPC and find some better parts.
Brought the laptop and the Jetpack with me, so I don't have to worry about anyone on the hotel wifi stealing my information. Like posting here and looking at craigslist is anything earth shattering.
Gonna hit the sack in a minute. Boy I'm tired. It's raining now hope it stops by morning, our car show won't be as much fun if we're all running around with umbrellas. Hope everyone has a good weekend.
Good day at the club event. First time I've participated with a car. Don't even know how I did, I looked at the cars and then went inside and talked. Probably a whopping ten cars. They were all nicer than mine. That's okay.
I'm skipping the dinner at the church tonight, and the soc hop, I think I'll put the car back on the trailer and head out. Then I can get a couple things done tomorrow and be ready for work.
Have a good evening everyone. Jamesbo how did your Bro In Law like his pickup?

Mike, I love the Corvairs,
-- Wow wife and I both have killer colds. Always forget how miserable they can make you feel, I haven't had one in a long time-Yuck...
Got home around 130 in the morning. Slept late and got the car off the trailer, and the trailer back to Uhaul. Man it sucks renting a trailer when you have a trailer sitting empty. Besides having no lights, the car doesn't fit on it. Too steep.
Dan that is my car. Kinda wish I would have gone on the rally, but eh, had lunch with some friends that I don't get to see very often. The guy that comes up with the rally does his best to trick everyone and makes a big deal when you get lost. That's fairly irritating to me so that's fine.
Norm very few of the cars these days have the original wheels. Some of the early cars do, none of the late cars did. The original is 13" with a full wheel cover. People say it's hard to find 13" wheels anymore so they go bigger. It isn't hard, there just isn't the selection. If people would keep buying the 13s then it would be easier to get them. Instead why not just shoot yourself in the foot.
Greg feel better. Nothing worse that not feeling good. Maybe a couple Hot Toddies(sp?) will help out.
Gonna do some more painting today and then hit the Awful house for an early dinner. Lonesome in here without Tiger, I'll get him tomorrow after work. Have a good afternoon everyone.
