--Wow,it's about 70 out this morning, apparently stayed that warm all night. Strange weather for this time of year. My shoulder is much better almost back to normal, so yesterday I worked on putting stuff away and hanging pictures and stuff on the walls in the barn. So good to get the place organized after the move. I drove the old truck yesterday for the first time since I broke shoulder. Shifting isn't bad but steering hurts some. If going down the road and turning it's ok but trying to turn around in a driveway is tough.
--I have a bunch of old licence plates that used to be on the wall at my old shop, I put them up yesterday. I have had a old personalized plate on the front of my Cutlass since 2001 that reads"NOTA442". I let it expire in 2003 or so but left it on the front and have a model year plate on the rear. Anyway a month or so I saw some pictures of personalized licence plates in JWO (I think) and saw a Michigan "NOTA442" plate with a July sticker on it. In Michigan someone else can get a personalized plate as long as it isn't already taken, so it looks like someone else is now using that # as their plate. So I took the "NOTA442" plate off the front and put it on the wall. I put a old "CUTLASS- Americas best selling car" promotional plate on the front. You guys remember those? OK enough rambling, Have a good one!
Well, I was planning on cutting the grass this morning as it wasn't supposed to rain until this afternoon, WRONG! A thunder storm rolled through about an hour ago, putting a damper on that idea. Greg, yep a bit warm for this time of year, that will change starting tomorrow by the looks of it. I have a couple of plates that need to go up in the garage, a Bi Centennial, and a couple of the 100th anniversary of the automobile that I had, one on my daily driver and the other on my '69 when I first bought it. Usually the State wants you to turn them in, in order to get a new one, but I just held on to them, and they never asked about them when they were replaced. I also have a 50th anniversary plate from Alaska, plus a " The Yukon" plate. I was born there, so I picked one up online years ago, and my parents grabbed some back in the eighties when they went back up there on vacation.
Boring day at work. We finished up a little early, but still got out at regular time. Sup with dat? Nice and hot again, no rain.
I have hundreds of license plates, none of them noteworthy, most of them off cars the family has had. When I was growing up the State of Illinois issued new plates every year. That's what most of mine are. I've had a few cars here in Georgia so I have lots of those plates as well.
Summit was good last night. One Oldsmobile, the one from the junkyard that I saw on Saturday. My Chevy guy didn't show up. I could have stopped by his house after the show, but one never knows for sure why he didn't show up, and I didn't want to walk in on some emergency or other extraordinary situation. I'll see him some other time.
Got no plans for the afternoon. Rare. I might go back to Harbor Freight and see about a camera system I can put up outside my house. I've been gonna do that for awhile. Not expecting anything, but heck you never know.
Well have a good afternoon everyone. I'll grab a snack and do something.
Norm, I've got a good friend [much younger] who is really good. Went to Q school but didn't quite make it
Anywho, He tries to help me with my game. We've got a Tee time Saturday https://www.thewaterfallclub.com/
It;s near my house on lake Burton
A few years ago, They had sum financial problems I "think" Nick Saban [that has a place on the lake]helped bail them out. He plays up there regularly. Don't think I'll see him Saturday, He's probably busy
FWIW, I tried to look up his handicap but he hasn't posted a score in 4 years.[at Waterfall] Another place I looked and it said he was a 10.2
Still very hot and far too very humid around here for this time of year - oppressive.
Waterfallclub.....interesting.
I have a private pilot's license. I often spend time on YouTube watching various aviation videos. There's one guy (from FL) who routinely flies w/in FL and over to the Bahamas (unfortunately I don't have him in my subscriptions list otherwise I'd send you the link to the video). Himself & two or three other people flew up to The Waterfall Club either this year or last year & played 18. That club (Waterfall Club) looks awesome! That should be an awesome day of golf.
Nick Saban. What a guy...what a career...what a life. He graduated from Kent State 1973. This would mean (had he attended Kent State four years) he was at Kent State during the Ohio State Massacre (May 4, 1970) when the Ohio National Guard opened fire on the protesting students. I found the same for Nick.
Another no drama day at work. We finished pretty early, and then sat around until the end. It's hot out. I drive home with the AC off and all four windows down. Makes me think I'm in a convertible.
Norm I hope the arm is healing up.
Jamesbo I think your famous neighbors go around telling people that you are their neighbor.
Slept real good last night and went in early. Gonna go in early tomorrow and also just found out we're working Saturday. The two days off in a row thing didn't last long.
Jamesbo, I'm half tempted to send you some of our rain, we've been getting dumped on heavily since June. If this keeps up into the winter months, we will be up to our arseholes in snow.
Mike, Those "Famous People" don't know me from Adam's house cat. If ya wanta know the inside scoop, ya need to ax the guys that pump gas at the marinas
A few years back I saw one filling up a old wooden Chris Craft and as he smiled he said "Allan's in town" [Meaning Alan Jackson] must be on a 1st name basis
The only guy I know works at the recycling center [trash dump] 'Virgil 'as in one of the Earp brothers
Jamesbo, I'm half tempted to send you some of our rain, we've been getting dumped on heavily since June. If this keeps up into the winter months, we will be up to our arseholes in snow.
Ridiculously stupid weather. Tomorrow expected to be a repeat of today only warmer and more humid - high of 89*F (RealFeel® 99°F). Tee-time @ 8:36am.
The arm I mangled from falling the Ash Tree is healing wonderfully. It put up a fight but I won the battle. Cutting up the remaining 4' stump (4' diameter) beat the dog poop out of me but it's done. Raking the enormous piles of chainsaw wood clippings was no easy task - five 36 gallon containers of chips. Today I spent ~4-5 hours trimming the landscape and cleaning up the last raking of chainsaw chips. Received a check in the mail from my Hail & Wind insurance policy company for some roof related damages. We'll see how this plays out - I may opt for a complete tear-off and new Architectural shingles - we'll see. Although, I could head to Vegas and bet on RED for a double-or-nothing wager.
Just about time for bed. Came home and had a bit of a nap. Went to the chiro. Just finished a bite and that's that. Trying day at work.
The thing in the car said 113 when I came out this afternoon. That's the hottest it's ever said. Went down to about 96 once I started driving. Record breaking week. I wish I had the energy to get out and work outside. I love this weather. Won't get much done this weekend, we're working Saturday so that's a reduced day, and Sunday I have to end early to get to bed for Monday. Never was I an overtime hound, don't know where this comes from.
Jamesbo I think you have it all wrong. Sure they know you, but won't say anything because they are intimidated.
So I have a dilemma. I have a 57 Chevy that needs to get going, and I've found one that runs and drives but needs some work. My car needs more work than this other one, plus it will take longer to get it going. I'm working against a sort of deadline, bad choice of words, it's the twin to the car my Mom drove when she was in high school. I want to be able to show it to her and drive around in it with her. So do I buy the new car that runs and drives and put the work into it that it needs, or do I take that money and put it towards the car I already own. I tell you I can see it both ways.
Okay Friday awaits. Hope everyone has a good evening and lots of plans for the weekend.
So do I buy the new car that runs and drives and put the work into it that it needs, or do I take that money and put it towards the car I already own.
I can't recall who said this (I'll probably need to paraphrase this), I believe it was either Indira Gandhi or Mahatma Gandhi (I suppose it doesn't matter):
"Live by what you need, not by what you want." In doing so, you'll find happiness knowing you have provided for your basic needs.
The only point I am making is this. Most of us (this includes me) are extraordinarily fortunate to be able to live by what we want - most people in the world are not this fortunate.
Simply put, Mike. Tender your question internally with that which provides more towards what you need as opposed to what you want and you'll arrive at the best decision; and, remember selflessness outweighs selfishness.
Mike, i think a lot of stories start that way. Someone is going to restore (or just fix up) a old car and when looking for parts they find a better car and buy that one also and end up saving the second one. I would do whatever makes the most sense as you could probably sell what is left over for decent money, being a 57 Chevy...
Finished up early today and hit the Awful house. Haven't been there on a Friday in quite awhile. Did the inspection thing today, only to act as a refresher as I'll be doing that solo tomorrow. The one inspector is going to be out of town but gave me his number in case I get in a jam. Don't know if it was to be nice or to maybe head off big trouble on Monday. I'm sure it was to be nice.
Greg if I buy this other car I'm not getting rid of the one I already have, nor will I raid it for parts. The new one will be in addition to the current one. Have you not read anything about me? ;-) I don't sell anything...
Norm that's the problem, I look to my inner self and then argue with myself. I overthink everything. Knowing myself, I pretty much know what my first inclination is, but I'm trying to overcome that and be reasonable. Eh, the struggles.
Jamesbo I used to know an old guy who worked for Robert Woodruff. His main job was to keep his crazy daughter in check. Once in a while he'd drive him to work, and every time they'd go past some big bank, Robert Woodruff would say to him, in that vault is the original recipe for Coca Cola. And you know what, every time I saw the old man he'd tell me that story.
Okay got a couple extra hours to do something today, tomorrow might be challenging but it will be done by noon. Hot out, might go work on the Corvair. I need to go get the truck and bring it over, and start getting it ready for St. Augustine.
Mike - I think Robert Woodruff had three daughters? I wonder if this daughter was mentally crazed or a loose party animal - the type which would appeal to me? Which bank has the original recipe I wonder? This new building you're erecting - is it going to be a car museum?
Norm that's very funny. No, it isn't going to be a museum. Heck, it might be my new residence. Lots of parking, one little corner for me and Tiger.
I think the daughter liked her drugs. One story I heard, repeatedly, was that the father set aside tons of money for her but it was stipulated she only get an allowance, she couldn't have it all at once. The daughter got a lawyer who found a loophole and got all the money at once and blew it. Then he put away some more money for her but with tighter restrictions. Her lawyer found a way around that. Then he put away some more money and told his lawyer that if she got into it he was fired. Don't know the outcome of that one.
Well I've spent the last two hours playing with Tiger. Didn't get anything done but we sure had fun. Just had a big plate of spaghetti and after cleaning up in the kitchen it will be time to wind down. Up at 2 for Saturday overtime. Have a good evening everyone.
Work went surprisingly well today. I was the sole "inspector" running the eddy current machine on the wheels. The lead had a list of what I could and couldn't sign off, so there were no big surprises. Less than a handful that came through that I couldn't look at, so that was a success. Though had I known that's what I was in for when I signed up for overtime I wouldn't have signed up. Eh, it's over now and I didn't break anything.
Jamesbo that's the story I heard repeatedly. Doesn't surprise me that the old guy I knew would get it wrong. Now I wonder about the Coca Cola recipe and where it's at.
Not quite as warm today and not quite as sunny. High of around 80 and we're already there. I wonder if this is it, if the hot weather is done now.
So I couldn't sleep last night and ended up thinking about the Chevy(s). I've pretty much decided that I'm just gonna stick with the car I have and not buy the orange one. I'm already ahead of the game by having the car, and what I want to do to it, would have to be done to the orange one, so I'd be spending twice as much. The plan was to paint the orange one brown, then when the brown car was done paint the orange one back to black, which it was originally. So I'd be painting it twice. No point in that. Although a black 57 Chevy is stunning. It's like driving a tuxedo. Hm, maybe I've talked myself back into it.
Hope the weekend started out good for everyone. Got 40 more hours before we start it up again. See you all later.
Woodruff had a brother named George, about 25 years ago I was at s cocktail party where he was in highlands n.c. he was po'd because he had paid for a lot of dental work for his cook and she quit to go to work for someone else.
Norm, save your money. Waterfall was a " exclusive " disappointment
Yardage short but played long. A lot on into hill shots and many times the ball plugged in the fairway. Beautiful scenery but not in mu top 50 golf courses
James, when I saw a couple of the holes @ Waterfall (from that YouTube video fly-in I was mentioning) it looked very hilly and I recall one hole in particular which sat ~100' above the green (Par 3?). Too bad it was a disappointment. I was a Volunteer (Marshal) Chairperson for the Greenbrier Classic (Holes 15-17) for ~5 years and I used to play the Old White TPC, the Meadows & the Greenbrier on numerous occasions. I'd probably have to say out of all the courses I've ever played, the Greenbrier has been my best experience in terms of golf course(s) and social amenities.
Too bad about the Waterfall being an "exclusive" disappointment.
Back from Awful house and Walmart. I want to do some painting today and I thought if I went to Walmart first, I wouldn't be changing into painting clothes and then back. Though I do have to go out again later to put gas in the car. Maybe.
I don't know anyone famous or well known. Or have had their 15 minutes of fame.
So now, paint. I can work a little later now that I don't have to go to the store this afternoon. Work early tomorrow. Have a good day everyone.
Norm, A hundred years ago when Hanger 1 was at Hartsfiled. The mini bus that took people to Cokes G II or III [whatever their old number Gulfstream was] simply said, "Winship" on it. If you didn't "Winship" was Rober W Woodfruff's Middle name ya weren't good enough fer their Gulfatream [s]
That's right Jamesbo I forgot you've been on television and in the newspaper. Hard to be incognito that way.
I used to work at Charlie Brown airport and the Coke hangar was right next door. I was there when the CEO of Coke died and before his funeral there was one G4 after another flying in. Also they would work on Ted Turner's plane once in a while. We went up on it once and it was old and dated. Lots of dark paneling and **** carpet. This was 97-98 something like that.
Beautiful out and cool. Got one wall of the bedroom painted. Doesn't sound like much but it's been a project. And when you have a helper, it takes awhile to go back over all the nose prints.
If ya wanta see Gulfstreams and Lear jets stacked up like cord wood, There are 2 places, 1 Augusta National and 2 Superbowls
Super bowl X was in Miami and I saw a gold DC something another land and a pile of dudes in Cowboy hats disembark
I've been told the IRS also shows up jes to write down plane numbers
A few years ago there was a private [corporate] airplane convention in town. I was told one fancy restaurant sold $50,000 worth of wine in one night. I guess if you're entertaining a prospect to buy a mega dollar jet, ya gotta buy them some good wine . I wouldn't know
James, I've been working on my short game recently - primarily my 56* wedge. The area which needs improvement is ~5-10 yards from the green, so I've been concentrating in this distance range. I most often pitch & run (7 or 8 iron) with some fairly good action & consistency since I've been doing this all my life. But, I believe I can make further improvements learning how to control these shots better with a chip rather than a pitch. Of the many ways I've tried, I'm finding the method of dropping the club to the ground (so-to-speak) via simple gravity is working best. I'd really like to learn just how to mange that shot where I can 'check' the ball - that's going to take some special effort.
Good morning guys! Last night we had a few people over and had a campfire. Was a good time. I have a bunch of maple fire wood that had been cut a long time ago and just sat on the ground. I was surprised how rotten it was. It was like a sponge- A wet sponge. but it did burn but took a lot of heat to dry out and get going. Weather was just right- a little cool and felt like fall. Yesterday put away the Cutlass for the winter. Hate that... Boat is still in the water but most people have taken them out. I think I'll wait a couple weeks, I love to go on the lake and see the fall colors reflected on the water on a sunny, autumn day, it's beautiful. Shoulder feels 95%, almost back to normal. Wifey and I are going to a new doctor that is closer to where we live now. We hate to leave our old one we've known him so long we consider him a friend but 100 mile one way is too far. I hope we like this new one, She comes recommended from the neighbors. Have a good one all!
Norm, I never get 5-10 yards from the green unless I;m in one of Fazio's world famous deep bunkers/ Seriously, If I'm that close, I'll run up a 7 iron or if it a fer piece to the pin a 6 iron. I'm a keep it on the ground [not the fly] kinda guy
Here's the # 2 hole par 3 WAY the hell [maybe 200 yard drop. When ya get down to the green ya look back up and see the waterfall
Slow news day? Here's some news. There was/is a hostage situation in a house that backs up to the expressway up close to the airport, so no cars were allowed. All lanes blocked. I thought, too bad, I take 675. Well, 675 was backed up because of all the people trying to get around the blockade and get back on 75 further south. I bet if we were to take a poll of people sitting in their cars, 99% or more would say just shoot the guy already so we can get on with it.
Another slow day at work, that started out slow. The robots were broken so we did exactly zero wheels during overtime, and when they started working again no one seemed interested. I think we were short 12 wheels when it was time to go home, so a few guys stayed.
No plans for this afternoon. I doubt I do anything, I've felt a little run down all day. Hope I'm not trying to catch something. I might move the couch over and pop in a DVD. It's nice outside but wet, we had some rain before I got home.
Well have a good afternoon everyone. I'll be back to talk to myself tomorrow...
41/42 yesterday. Tee-time 8:36am tomorrow. Dinner w/ local Carteret Community College (CCC) Foundation members tomorrow evening (24th Annual Transportation Impact & CCC Golf Tournament, October 9-10th). I bought x2 raffle tickets $25 each - prize is a new golf cart.
Golf Tournament (Thursday, October 10th). Registration 12:30pm. Shotgun start 1:30pm. Superball format. I'm getting ready for fall. Tons & tons of landscaping/yard work while the weather is gorgeous.
