The *NEW* Good Morning Thread!
Mornin all.
Mike we have about 1/2 inch on the cars this mornin. Wet and drippy. Gonna be in the low 40's today and slowly getting to about 60 on Sunday. Hope your buddy is feeling better at least til after it's too late to go in. four. It has 4, just like work.
John, It seems the Denver donkeys only have defense. Or so I'm told. Haven't seen them yet this year. Whoda thunk that they'd be undefeated this far into the year?
Jamesbo, Sounds like a plan That will save him from having to rent a tux too.
Be right back. Feeding time...
That old bitty has done pretty good with this time change. She brayed pretty loud this morning but has been awfully quiet considering...
Have a Thursday all.

Kwin g'mawnin from da' swamp. Damp and dank, but supposedly little threat of Elsie today. She's waiting for the weekend, when everybody wants to be outside.
Clint, sorry you have to deal with the muck and ice so early, but I guess it's part of the deal, like the humidity for us.
Yeah, Peyton is awesome, eh? You'd swear he was from Louisiana.
Mike, I guess $400 is reasonable if he does a bang-up job. I like the styling of the early 'Stangs, but they're not for me. There are enough folks out there crazy about them to make up for my indifference.
Jamesbo, how did the gathering of geezers go? Any of them jump in the hole?
Scot, duck ur head in this room right now, dude. (And if you don't, hope all's OK wit U and the family.)
Whelpt, got a full day today, so let me get crackin'. Have a great one, Oldsmofriends.

Hi everyone.
Made 2am last night, but slept through most of my evening television. Got up this afternoon around 1, good day to sleep it's overcast and yicky.
So George Barris has died. What a career/life that guy had. He is going to be remembered forever.
Jamesbo I like York Peppermint patties, let us know when the next convention is so I can attend
John do the neighbors eventually ante up for their part of road maintenance, or are you the knight in shining armor when it comes to pot holes? Are you at the end of the street?
It feels like Monday, but it's actually Friday. Maybe this should be the schedule every week, work one off one work one off three. Hm.
Okay have a good night everyone, time to hit the bricks.

Mernin', all... ditto Jamesbo's weather report. Looks rather cruddy -- and we're flirtin' w/ record hi temps (mid-80s yesterday and didn't get below mid-70s overnight).
Jamesbo, I'm a bit stumped at the "blade & Massey" terms.
Mike, kind of a long story, but to make it short, my next-door neighbor moved in since our last truckload, so he's a complete unknown. Another "partner" is the no-load owner of the 4 modulars who totally runined our neighborhood. If I plead and work him for a week or two, he will usually kick in something (his tenants are the #1 cause of the road's being in the shape it is). But he put the God-forsaken properties up for sale about a year ago, and they're still for sale; so I'm bracing myself for some hard-luck story on the skinflint's part.
It's one of those things that I hate dealing with so much, that it's almost worth it to just do it myself. But I will pursue him for the sakes of justice and fairness. There's another dead-end guy I usually beg from, and he's the guy who actually owns the easement road -- and he's the king of hard-luck stories. Always some tale of woe. But I'll touch base with him as well.
We basically ARE the ones who have to use the entire length of the road (we're at the end) and are the only ones who gives a rat's **** whether the road looks like Dresden in '43 or Windsor Court.
Y'all have a great one, Oldsmofriends.

Hi everyone.
Got out late this morning, got home and it was actually kind of nice out. Went to bed and told the dogs to get me up at noon. My girl comes in at 230, only because it started raining. I should have stayed up when it was nice and then slept this afternoon. Eh, I'm off tonight so what does it matter. Actually I'm hoping my buddy calls and wants to go for pizza.
John it's too bad you can't build your own road and then not let anyone use it. You should buy the modulars and then move them out, that would cut down on road maintenance.
Dan that's a nice looking tractor. Would look nicer with a backhoe.
This morning my boy was favoring one of his back legs, have no idea what happened. Well, it must have rained here last night(it didn't rain at the airport) because things were moved around in the dogs' room and my girl's feet had been bleeding. He's still limping around so if he's not better by morning I'll have to take him to the vet. Maybe he thinks I have $60 too much.
Okay gonna make something of the rest of the day. Have a good weekend everyone.

Good morning everyone.
Jamesbo I echo your sentiments. What's it been, three weeks a month since we've seen the sun? No wonder people go off their rockers.
My boy seems to be recovered this morning. I had some pain medicine left over from the last time my girl did something stupid, so I gave him half pills yesterday. He must have just twisted his foot when my girl was having her fit the other night.
Thanks to the rain and thunder, I haven't been to the Awful house in like three weeks. So guess where I'm going now. Have a good day everyone.

Rain does suck... Big National AACA Meet was held in Houma, LA, today and it was soaked all day... really too bad; first nat'l meet in LA since 1977. We didn't bother going, 'cause it barely stopped raining once in the whole state of LA since this morning. Still pouring.
Whelpt, LSU is DEFEATED! Nick Saban outcoached the pants off Les Miles -- plain & simple. The "Lake Burton Baron" strikes again. He's without question the most hated man in LA.
But you gotta' give the devil his due.
Have a good (and dry) night, Oldsmofriends.

John, Me thinks the barron has one less castle to fret about.
For those of you who are remotely interested in what we're talk'in about.
I'd like to meet de dude what talked him into investing in a 10 mil spec house. Where are these suckers when I need a few extra mil

Ya know, I love that we (Michigan) got Harbaugh for our coach, but, where does education come in? So much money spent on college athletics, but try to find an adjunct prof. that can make a living teaching at any college.
I went to a school wit no sports [Emory] so I ain't got a dog in dis fight but I will tell ya when itt comes to SEC football sum one might hang ya fer dat kinda talk. I mean like who gives as rats a$$ about education when the pig skin is involved.
Good morning everyone, if only for a few more minutes.
Started raining around 230, so my girl had to come tell me. I couldn't get back to sleep till around 5. Got up at 1030.
Guess it will be lunch at the Awful house today. I wouldn't go at all except I need to go to Walmart, so might as well.
Gave the dogs baths yesterday. So that means I got a bath, and the bathroom got cleaned. They are now big puff *****. Wasn't the best day for it but I noticed they were both scratching more than normal, and it had been awhile.
Not sure what else the day has in store, I might go up for pizza later, even if I have to go by myself. Otherwise it's an inside day. Have a good Sunday everyone.

Good Sunday afternoon, gents. Stayed raining (at least drizzling) until about 9 this morning. Waterlogged we are. Thanks be to heaven, no flooding here that I've seen.
Interesting, Jamesbo. Do you get the impression the Baron lost money on his "investment"? Can't imagine it would be on the market for a year and then auctioned off at a profit -- unless he was asking 15 million for it before. Poor Nick.
It's not socially or politically acceptable to comment on the eloquence with which most college boys on athletic scholarships speak. So I'll take the 5th.
Mike, that must've been a day's work! We used to have two pups -- a bit smaller than yours -- and I was exhausted after giving them their Head & Shoulders treatment.
I hit Wally World myself this morning. Invested in about 5 cans of various spray black paints to start experimenting with the underhood facelifts for both the SF and the GS. The guy I bought the GS from unfortunately knew (and ostensibly cared) nothing about underhood gloss levels for Buicks. Screams "incorrect" as it is now.
Anyhoots, let's pull for the Black & Gold... I predict we let these 1-6 Titans hang around to the end and wind up getting bitten (or kicked) in the ****.

John here is my unsolicited opinion. Years ago when I only had one car, which was(is?) an Oldsmobile, I'd go to NAPA and get Martin Seynour semi gloss black. Was a -perfect- match to GM's chassis black. After my local NAPA closed I'd order Eastwood's Underhood Black and it was a smidge duller but still excellent. These days I buy Summit's generic Chassis Black and it's about midway between MS and Eastwood. Very acceptable.
I don't know if NAPA still sells Martin Seynour paint, and I know you probably don't want to order stuff online and pay for truck shipment, so if you can wait until you're here next I'll get a bunch of Summit's CB and bring it up to you.
Just got back from Awful house and Walmart. I should have stayed home. Got stuck with the awful waitress and then had to put up with the unwashed masses at Walmart. I'll refrain from the Walmart rant, it's the same every time.
Since I'm using Jamesbo's vernacular, I'll say that I want to use Housman in an Amphicar article. There are a couple long time members that have died and I'll use that to recognize them.
Okay now to find something constructive to do.

Thanks, Mike. In my former life restoring the red GS, I went to the PPG store in Metairie and bought a gallon of high-dollar gloss black epoxy, then added flatting agent to arrive at 3-4 glosses for the various underhood components. I had my little respirator system and used my Morgan Building as a paint booth. I painted everything in batches. The stuff looked way better than factory, but it put a smile on my face. I said at the time it was a once-in-a-lifetime undertaking, and I was right.
In any case, Saints played like Jamesbo's worst day on the green. GOATS! At least the defense. I love Rob Ryan personally; but he has to go. He's marginally better than Steve "Spags" Spagnuolo, who went down in flames here a couple years back, as he brought the #32 NFL defense to New Orleans. Ryan had one year of beginner's luck, then subsequently drifted far back into the crowd of defensive-coach also-ran's. OK... nuff o'dat.
Mike, you need to give us a full version of the Wally World experience. I feel as if I've missed something.
Later, folks. I think I'll go eat away my sorrows with a huge Caesar salad, BBQ'd poke ribs, and a huge baked russet with extra s.cream & butter.

Mornin all.
Dan, I recognize that tractor. Just like the MIL's (only nicer) I see they had a stud break off the exhaust manifold too. The mils had the vice grips too.
Well race season is over. so now time to start rebuilding everything.
Have a Monday all.

I wish I had been invited to gorge my sorrows at your place.

I'm seeing poke chops with black beans and rice in my very near future.

Kwik mernin', all. Our ranks seem to be dwindling. 'Twas a slight sprinkle earlier, but spose to dry up and show at least a hint of Sol by this afternoon. Beautiful tomorrow & Wed., then Elsie ushers in the coolest temps o'the season by weekend...
Jamesbo, you're always invited here. And Mike & I'll be up for da' poke & black beans, BTW.

We have a slightly smaller Wally World in Ponchatoula that is much cleaner and nicer than the madhouse in Hammond that I frequent. But they seem to run out of (or not carry) half the items I'm lookin' fer.
So I go to the asylum in Hammond. I have to say, it's interesting. Only place you see a broader spectrum of the unwashed masses is at the Driver's License Bureau.
Clint, sounds like you'll be needin' a new gallon of Go-Jo.
Anybody hear a peep from our other GA denizen, "One-T" Scot?
Y'all have a fab moon-day, Oldsmofriends.

Hi everyone.
Cold in the house today. Guess it's time to call the gas company and get things hooked up. Man I hate to do that, but heck, I don't want to see icicles hanging off the dogs' ears.
John the people that go to my particular Walmart are just of low class. There is another Walmart in Stockbridge and it's like yours. Has nothing and out of everything. The people I see in Walmart don't care if they're camped out in front of what you want to look at. They don't care if they are walking down the middle of the aisle and you can't get past. Ninety percent of the time when I walk past the toy department there are kids playing with the toys, throwing the ***** around, riding the bikes, and the people that work there aren't any better. Never do they say anything. And then, get to the checkout and there's about 50 lines and only two of them are open. And of course backed up with people who want every item to be rung up on a different bill. I have to get into a certain mindset before I can go to Walmart otherwise I'd be screaming bloddy hell the whole time.
Jamesbo that's how I picked out my first apartment. I went through the apartment guide and threw away all of the ones that said they were on MARTA. Guess where I ended up. Riverdale.
Okay gotta start my Monday. Have a good evening everyone.

Hi everyone.
Pretty, pretty day out. Too bad I missed most of it. How nice it was, though, to wake up and see the sun out and blue sky. Hope it continues on for awhile.
Saw something at work I never had before. The fire suppression system malfunctioned and filled Bay 5 with about a foot of foam. It rained down from the ceiling like a giant car wash. We had just parked a 737 there and had to get it out to the washrack, because that stuff is very corrosive. Not sure how toxic it is to people but I stayed far away from it.
I don't know much about tractors either, but I'm originally from the hometown of John Deere.
Got to bed a little early today and the dogs woke me up around noon. Then I said, okay, 4o'clock is next. Wouldn't you know my boy comes in at about ten to 4. Slept good.
Okay time to hit it. Hope everyone has a good evening.

Well theres a few inches of wet white crappy stuff all over the ground this morning. So thats probably why I'm gonna be a bit irritable today.

Dan, as soon as it dries out, I'm gonna see what other $hit floated into de yard, I can run over. Oh, sorry friend, I guess you get the white stuff too.

I get the white stuff here in Utah, except I am quite the opposite of most. I enjoy and love it falling, as does my wife.
Well, I am looking for some suggestions.
Sadly (or this could be a mixed blessing) I was in an accident over this past weekend where I am 99% sure that I totaled out my daily driver (2005 Furd Focus)
I am looking for it's replacement, I want a 2006 or newer 4 door, preferably a manual transmission with good gas mileage, and under 5K in price. Any suggestions either for or against a particular vehicle?

Hi everyone.
Good day to sleep. Was beautiful and I saw the tail end of it. Got up to 70.
Work kicked my butt last night. We replaced a sliding carpet in a 757. It's a moving rubber mat that slides the bags along the floor so the bag guys don't have to crawl all the way back to the back of the bin. That sucker was 28 feet long and weighed a ton! Coupled with three other guys who only wanted to bicker with each other, really made for an enjoyable night. Not. Tonight is Friday so I hope I get a reprieve.
Jeff I don't have any suggestions for you. At least not that would meet your criteria. I'm guessing you want your car to be a family-type car, so late 90s Saturn wouldn't be a good choice. What about another Focus? That is if you liked it in the first place. You could probably get a Cobalt at a good price these days.
Clint I hope your snow doesn't last too long. We should really spell that as sn*w because it is a four letter word. Or the Jamesbo spelling, $now.
Okay off I go. Happy Veterans Day everyone. Several veterans in my family, none of whom are around today but I'm proud of them nonetheless. Know plenty others, proud of them, too.

Well, we're getting Clint's snow, 'cept it's frikkin' dumping an ocean's load about right now of rain. They blockaded a road that parallels Lake Michigan, due the concern of high winds (60mph gusts) blowing sand and waves over the roadway.
Mornin all. The streets were dry by noon. And then the wind picked up. I had to go pick up a 3rd member for a 57 3100 at a junk yard and the wind was howling. The poor yota had a hard time doing 40 in a few spots. that plow on the front really kills that thing in the wind. Anywho, The owner of that yard has a 67 holiday coupe cutlass for sale. Looks like its a roller but the body is very straight and it looks like a rust free Colorado car.
Glad I'm not the only one that has to deal with this crap. Oh yea, and Darrell too. when he decides to poke his head in here.
Well have a day.

Spose to be nice wit jes a chance of rain.
Got a little mow'in done yesterday and tried to blow sum very wet leaves [unsuccessfully]
Jeff, I don't know squat about any new/er cars. When I was a kid and my dad would drive me downtown [on his way to werk] to kindergarten. We'd play a game where I had to name the year and make. I was pretty good at it but today, de all look alike to me.
Mike, Did you see the FB post I put up about the Delta honor guard? I had no idear those gorillas baggage handles had any respect for anything.
Clint, I guess dat plow kinda hurt de old gas mileage too. When your headed down hill wit a tail wind can ya raise it up enough to use it like a sail?
I've jes about made up my mind to call Scot and figger out WTF is going on wit him. He's on FB wit de "Run whatcha brung" but he's neglect'in his oldsmobuddies
Welp, GTG to town, wish me luck
And have a GREAT day Olds friends

Day o' Thor (Allan, where y'at?)
Muggy and mild; had showers move thru this morning -- just enough to make a rich paste out of the dirt that these underground cable installers had tracked all over the road. Poor Avalon looks like it just finished the Dakar Rally. Me not envious of those of you getting white stuff already.
Mike, your stories of work don't exactly make me want to rush back... although I could use some mad money.
Will be back later -- got to go do my early voting. Motto: "Vote early; vote often."
OK. I'm back.
Dan, is that 131 they closed? I'm sure my buddy in Bellaire is getting pounded.
Clint, Saints wound up making the Titans look like Super Bowl champs, as I had semi-predicted. One never knows exactly what team is going to show up dressed in black & gold on a game day. Lotsa' talk about whoopin' the 'Skins on Sunday. I'm making no prediction.
Jamesbo, I want my sun back.
But we're supposed to have one fine -- albeit cool -- weekend. I doubt the grass will be dry enough to cut; but the low humidity will go a long way to hasten the process. It's not really that long; just that those rains of 1-2 weeks ago have really done a number on things. A complete mess out there. The fire ant hills are multiplying like loaves & fishes. And to add insult to injury, the armadillos are having their way with my poor turf -- and have gotten into the mulch and fabric of more than one shrub.
BTW, good luck headed to the Demolition Derby (a.k.a. Hotlanta Interstate). And very sorry to hear of your friend's son. Real addiction is a horrible thing. There's a lot of crying wolf out there, but the real deal is a killer.
Jeff, glad nobody was hurt in the fender bender; wish I had some advice fer ya'. Good used cars at a reasonable price are tough to come by ... even in the rust-free South.
I can almost smell the cool mountain air... looking forward to the next trip.
Whelpt, have a dry one, friends.
