Mike, they didn't offer a V6 in the Delta/88 until the front driver debuted in 1986, with the 3800.

Telephone problem

In my barn/office I had 2 phones wit 2 lines each. Dis mawn'in one of them [the 1st one won't stop blinking] But it's only blinking on one phone. I unplugged it and when I plugged it back in it starts blinking again.

So I call my primary number from my cell and it's busy

Any bright idears?

John, I'd move de car to de mountains. Dat way you can finish it in your retirement home. [Sans huricaines]

Mornin all.

Allan, ??

Jamesbo, is it still busy with that one phone unplugged? if it's busy with all the phones unplugged it sounds like its in the line.

Dan, that First Gen 3800 was a great motor. Good power and excellent fuel economy.

Mike, I would think so too. I was thinking she was talking about her real father, but I don't know the family dynamics so that may not be possible.

Have a day all.

Jamesbo, I think that your wind and rain came this way, been blowing and raining for a couple of days, remnants I believe, of the Hurricane, which means the leaves are coming down from the trees and work for me. I will probably take Monday off, as it's supposed to be a mild sunny day, besides, Ol' Klauss is coming back to visit Alcoa, and he is bringing the Wall Street "top 100" with him...brokers or what, I'm not sure, but it will be a pain, so I'll take a day to get yard work done, and enjoy the day.

Hi everyone.

Another good day to sleep. Was overcast all day but now the sun is coming out. Just in time to go under.

Hey I wonder if my smiley faces work with this new computer.

Jamesbo one ringy dingy. The cornbread and stew sound wonderful.

Clint my Mom had an Eighty Eight(96 maybe?) with that 3800 motor. Ran great and got about 35mpg on the highway. Nice, nice car. Too bad I made her get rid of it.

Time for night #2. Happy Thursday everyone.

Mornin all.

Mike, They had almost no rolling resistance. The big thing around here was brakes, you had a hard time keeping it below the speed limit going down any hill even if you shifted down. The WOT double downshift of the 440-T4 was the only thing I can remember that was a serious engineering downfall on those.

Ok, gotta go feed the mules. have a Friday.

Happy All Hallow's Eve Eve

Just lost a huge post lost to the cyber-ether via a poorly chosen un-undoable keystroke.

Synopsis:

The powers-that-be down here moved Halloween to today 'cause of the deluges expected tomorrow. Really?

Took a road trip to New Roads, LA, yesterday to visit a friend. Ate at Ma Mama's Kitchen there, and to say "a good time was had by all" would be an understatement. Jamesbo, this place would have been right up your southern alley - white gravy on chicken-friend steak and all. We had a fab trip, and the 'Vette was draggin' its belly on the way home as a result of our full bellies.

Y'all have a great Fright Day, Oldsmofriends.

Sorry to soggy-up ur cereal, Jamesbo.... But I have a food hangover dis mawnin'. One friend had a "special" beef pot pie (you can really tell when something does not come from Sysco) and the other friend had the Catfish Ma Mama, wit' da' crawfish etoufee on da' side. The other special I wish I could have tried was the pork roast; but I wanted to get something I don't fix myself... and I have to admit: I do a mean pork roast.

But as Schwarzenegger and MacArthur once said, "I'll be back."

Hi everyone.

Nice day out, gonna be nippy tonight. It's Friday! Looking forward to the weekend of course.

I'd love some chicken fried steak. That will go on the list of fried chicken and pizza. Maybe that's what I'll do this weekend, just eat. Gonna rain so why not.

Found out through facebook that a guy I used to work with has died. He's younger than me so I'm guessing motorcycle wreck. He's had two severe ones already. That's too bad. Haven't seen him in a long time but he was a good guy.

So the foreman asked me last night what I wanted my departure day to be, December 1 or January 1. I said December. Tonight at midnight is the last chance to sign up, and then starts a cooling off period. I have two weeks to rescind. Don't see me doing that.

Well gonna head out. Hope everyone has a good evening and a good weekend.

Mernin', y'all. I am trying to send Elsie north and east, but her ghost keeps a'comin' to haunt us. Unfortunately, our church parish's fair is this weekend. They had a nice day yesterday, but they're predikkin' complete washouts for today and tomorrow. The sky is heavy as I type, just waiting to fall. Sad... so many folks work so hard to get this thing together. But that's life.

Mike, you sound as if you're rather sanguine about the decision, I'm delighted to hear. I detected a lot of ambivalence in your tone a month or two ago. We'll have to get together soon and celebrate at Dillard House. I think they have chicken-fried steak. (Really do not know; but maybe Jamesbo can tell us what kind of meat to use and I could try my hand at it.)

Was going to try and fix some holes in the road today, but not sure how far I'll get before the deluge.

Whelpt, hope everybody has a great weekend, including those who are on sabbatical at the moment.
-------------------------

Update: toted 4 wheelbarrow loads of fill to top off about 50 holes & beat Elsie's ghost....

Hi everyone.

Overcast this afternoon, and I wish the rain would just hurry up. This is one of two days I want it to rain a year. Told the dogs to get me up at 1. So of course 145 here they come. Eh, can't get much done today anyway.

I'm going to commence my eating weekend tonight by going to a diner I like and having country fried steak. Jamesbo is there a difference between that and chicken fried steak? Up home we called it chicken fried steak and got what the diner calls country fried steak. Well, for my purposes tonight they will be the same.

John you have the most interesting words and I enjoy looking them up. Though today I wouldn't use as colorful a word to describe leaving my job. I'm not happy about it, really. I find it necessary. Bittersweet. I've had a lot of good times and the company has made it possible for me to do things I never would have dreamed. But, things are changing and in my opinion for the worse, so I'm taking this opportunity to get out and do something different. It's tough to give up 21 years, a good salary, security, etc. I guess this is what's called a leap of faith.

Guess I'll get to punk-proofing the house and then go grab a bite. Have a good evening everyone.

Happy Halloween!

Is it too soon to be getting tired of the cold? I think the issue is that we have a couple of warm days, then cold ones and back and forth so we can't adjust to one or the other.

In 1983 they did offer the a V6 for the Delta 88 in Canada at least. I bought a brochure many years ago and the 3 engine choices listed were the 3.8L V6, 5.0L V8 and 5.7L Diesel V8.

And hoping for a good landing to your leap of faith.

I've only had chicken fried steak once, while on vacation in Texas and it was delicious.

John and Jamesbo, all the food that both of you have discussed in this thread would fill a recipe book or two!

Clint, my Father has a 283 in his '60 Impala and it moves the car well enough.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone.

Morning all

Well I survived Halloween without too much stress. The castle we are staying at is pretty amazing. Built in 1511 it was visited by Henry VIII on his wedding tour with Anne Boleyn

Had a drive to Gloucester, beautiful city with a stunning cathedral which included the grave of the guy that wrote the U.S national anthem.

Good morning everyone.

I haven't been outside yet to survey the remnants of Halloween. At 10 last night everything was okay, and the rain started not too long after.

Did I mention rain? I was tired around 11 so I went to bed, and about 2 it started raining and my girl started in on her annoying up on the bed and down again bit. That was quickly put to an end but I was wide awake at that point. Looked at the internet for a little while, went back to bed and still couldn't sleep, so finally got up at 430. So now I'm ready for the day and it's still the middle of the night. I'm gonna have to take her to the dog psychiatrist, I'm at the end of my rope with this nonsense. Oddly enough my boy was unaffected by the rain.

Didn't make it to the diner last night. I went next door to see my neighbor, who is recently home from New Jersey, and stayed for spaghetti. Not a bad deal.

Figured I'd go to the Awful house around 7, so need to figure out something to do until then. Supposed to rain all day so hard telling what I'll end up doing.

Well have a good Sunday everyone.

Rained all nite, and it ain't done yet. Things are mighty soggy down here. Still in 70s.

Jamesbo, what would you think about mixing some breadcrumbs in the flour... or even just using breadcrumbs? Just wondrin'. I have more experience in "paneed" things (veal, etc., although I don't buy veal).

When you do it, do you deep-fat fry, or is it more like a paneed in a little butter or oil? I guess if it says "chicken-fried," it would connote deep fat frying. (This will all go in Dan's cookbook. )

Don't tell Darrell, but let's everybody pull for the Black & Gold against the N.O. Homeboy, Eli Manning, today. Have dry one, gang.

Hi everyone.

Second night in a row it rained and my girl had a fit. Although a little later on it thundered and my boy got into the act. Finally took my pillow and went out to the couch. The dogs found hiding places and were fine. Why can't they do that to begin with? Fell back asleep just as it was getting light and slept till noon. That made me really mad.

Don't worry, Jamesbo, Scot is a resourceful young man. If he needs anything he'll speak up. Meantime, prayers that he and his are well.

Didn't get my chicken fried steak last night. I was helping my neighbor move a washing machine and his wife gave me some venison barbeque. Made a couple sandwiches for my dinner. I've had venison before, not crazy about it but it smelled good.

Guess I'll figure out what to do today. Rainy and gross out. Happy Monday everyone.

I forgot to say that today is 31 years that I've owned my green Oldsmobile. Actually it's Reef Turquoise with a black roof. Today is sits in disgraceful shape, but I still have it. One of these days...

Watched most of the Starsky and Hutch movie last night. To say it was lame is an understatement. Very painful. After that I watched The Green Mile. I thought it was pretty good. Started watching Olympus Has Fallen but since it was running until after 1 I decided to hit the sack.

Not getting much done today so far. Read that, not getting anything done today so far. I thought it was clearing up earlier but it was short lived. The dogs don't feel like playing, maybe I'll go work on a model car I've been building for the last couple years.

Mornin all.

I too, saw Scot's post and am a bit concerned.

Paul, I figure since you can't see the difference in CI from the outside, MAW have a little extra.

Mike congrats on the 31 year milestone. That is quite a feat.

I had CFS and eggs yesterday. It wasn't the best I've had. The bread crumb batter they used reminded me more of Salisbury steak that we used to get back in elementary school.

We got back from the land of many wives yesterday. It was a good trip. we met our internet friends from Germany there and another acquaintance From the same forum. It seems whoever was mapping out I-80 was looking for the least attractive parts of the country. We've driven it many times headed east, but this was the first time headed west. you couldn't count all the jacks on the road. the Ravens eat well on that highway. And yes, it was Wyoming so there were a few birds flying backwards.

Have a day all.

Hi everyone.

Just a gloomy day all around. Rain is supposed to come back at 8 tonight, hope it forgets. I don't know if things could get any more soggy.

Well I made it to the diner last night and had country fried steak. It was good, but not terrific. I should have gone to the Cracker Barrel for it. Hm, maybe next week.

Jamesbo I've had too many days lately where I don't get anything done and then rest the next day. I need to be more focused. What do you think about my plan to get a woman who will constantly tell me what I need to be doing?

Clint I've driven I-80 from San Francisco to Chicago. No offense to Jeff who chimes in occasionally, but that trek across Utah is the ugliest terrain I've ever seen. Flown over it as well, flying in and out of SLC. Woofers. Luckily I went across Nebraska in the middle of the night, so I couldn't see how boring it was.

Work tonight. I'm hoping I can trade working tomorrow night for going to that guy's funeral tomorrow afternoon. I can't do both. The visitation is going on now, that would have been too long to leave the dogs in their room. Supposedly there will be guys from MSP down here to fill in for those of us who are going to the visitation and or funeral. My question is, instead of paying to put these people up and taking away from the operation in MSP, why not route some of our work up there? There's a whole department of people who could do that easily. Hm.

Okay heading out. Have a good evening everyone, tomorrow is the hump.

Mike,
No Offense taken. I will agree part of it is very ugly and boring, other parts is nice. and I have driven all the way out to Nebraska and parts of that in my mind is very boring as well.

Hola, all

Whelpt, a coupley sentences is better dan nuttin' atol....

Dem boys in black & gold sure enough can put a guy thru the wringer. I'm still hung over on Wednesday. Supposedly the third highest scoring game in NFL history. Anybody ever hear of defense? Super happy to come out with a "W" though.

Still muy muggy, but at least it's drying out a bit. Road looks like it's been carpet bombed. I think a load of gravel is in our future, which is my favorite thing in the world 'cause I'm the only one who uses it that gives a rat's patootie. Asking for contributions is like trying to find teeth in a hen's beak.

Hope all absent parties are doing OK....

Found a supposedly reputable guy who said he'd come out to the house in December and install the headliner in the GS (which has needed to be done since I got almost two years ago -- so obviously it doesn't appear I'm currently giving it the attention it needs). What do y'all think about $400 labor (including his own tools & supplies -- not including the part, which I already have)? It sounds a tad high to me, but then again, if it were a simple job, I'd have done it myself by now.

Y'all have a great humpity, Oldsmofriends.

Hi everyone.

Went to that guy's funeral today. All of dayshift went up in Delta trucks, and I'd say all of dayshift that was off was there, lots of retired guys we hadn't seen in a long time, lots of midnight shift. It was a packed house which one doesn't normally see at a funeral. Nice, nice guy you could tell he was friend to everyone.

So, came back home and hit the Walmart, got dog food and now I'm off tonight. I took off knowing I'd be toast sleeping just a couple hours this morning and then being up all day. The foreman did let us go around 3 this morning, so that helped tremendously. So this week, work one off one work one. Crazy.

John I think 400 for him to make a house call is pretty good. Be glad you don't have an old Mustang, both windshields come out for the headliner.

Clint good luck with the snow. Ever notice how many letters snow has?

I will say, Jeff, that the view of the mountains from the airport windows is breathtaking. Which is a good thing because when I have to fly through SLC I'm stuck there all day. When driving on I80 Nebraska, Iowa, and Illinois seem like one long state.

Gotta stay up late tonight so I can sleep in tomorrow and attend my second Monday. I'm guessing I don't make 2am but that's the goal. Sat with a buddy of mine this afternoon who has to work tonight, and he thought taking off would have been an excellent idea. I said Rob, cough cough, you don't look so good...

Okay everyone have a good evening.
