Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Off to my sisters' place about 75 mi. with my pumpkin pecan pie, then to Detroit tomorrow with my brother to watch our high school football team play for the state title in their division. That's a 3 hour drive one way, will be leaving at about 9am for a 10-11hr day!

Happy Turkey Day, folks!

Better half and I are enjoying the holiday in Hiawassee.... the weather this whole week has been beyond our wildest hopes... it's as good as it gets....the GA mountain air is crisp & clean.

Scot, hope things are getting better. Sorry for the little funk; we all know how that is from time to time. Hope it's nothing worse than that.

Wow... all the talk of the old bands has me very nostalgic. Saw the Ventures about 30 years ago... way after their prime... but they were still good. Loved that Hawaii Five-0 theme. They also had a song called "Out Of Limits" that was the theme song of a local N.O. band in the late '70s and early '80s called The Cold... I and my friends used to see them at least 2-3 times a month for a couple years.

And the Go-Gos ... saw that bunch at an old music club called Old Man River's 30-something years ago. Never really liked them, tho.... especially when compared to The Bangles (who I wish I'd have seen). But I saw a bunch of folks in my heyday; most not more than once except for Uriah Heep and Cheap Trick. Missed The Beatles when they came to N.O. in '64 (my cousins went 'cause their dad was a cop and got them into City Park Stadium free)....

Don't eat too much bird! (Save room for the pecan pie a la mode. )

Hope everybody really takes time to give thanks, 'cause even the poorest among us is so fortunate. God bless our little community ... thanks be to God .

Thank you

Haven't been on the site much the last few days, but I wanted to thank you for your comments about Mew. It means a lot. Time to be moving on though.

Thanksgiving in America! Hope you all have a good one. Eddie Hansen posted an interesting thread about this. Worth a read - I think he fairly assessed what a lot of folks have forgotten. https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...tml#post478146

Dan - Maybe after January.

Scot - That's an incredible resto story

Mike - You need to do one just like that.

John - Ya mean to say that Cajuns have bird on TG? I would have thought it would be more a seafood smorg!

Going later to pick up Graeme from college. His new night guard is ready at the Dentists office. Ka ching. 680.00 for a piece of molded acrylic plastic? Wow!

Mais no, cher.....

Allan, the Cajuns by and large do the bird; but I'm only half Cajun.... Mom's side (Irish & German) wouldn't have missed the bird on Thanksgiving for all the rice in China

Gotta say, this little "Honeysuckle White" bird we got from Ingles up here was fab... seems like the brand is less important than how it's fixed ... and who fixes it. Stuffed it with doctored-up Pepperidge Farm seasoned stuffing mix. And made us a $2 cheesecake kit in a box.... don't know how it will taste, but it sure looks good; gonna' spread some cherry preserves on top before serving, just in case my calorie count was still on the chart today.

And please accept my condolences for the little mew-mew, Allan... I know our 3 are really family members and true buddies; in fact, Freddy is lying beside me as I type.

Yota update: a co-worker of my better half adopted little Yota this week.... the introduction to her current kitty, Harley, has been a little traumatic thus far; but we're praying things will smooth out within the week.... We're very hopeful, since we know she'll have a great indoor home there.

See y'all....

Yes, but it's custom fit (not like a fender) and installs in a second (again, not like a fender) and guaranteed not to rust (not like a fender) and is designed for a wet environment. I'd say it's money well invested.

Evening everyone.

Hope everyone had a great day with lots of good food. Let it all continue all weekend.

I got up around 5 today and the dogs and I had our lunchmeat sandwiches. Really, really good. I know the dogs don't know why we were having them, but they aren't ones to turn down a treat.

Hope work is short tonight, so I can get home and get back to the airport to fly out. Getting home at 10 is near impossible to get back for a noon flight, but I'll do what I can. I'm pretty much ready to go now.

Well have a good long weekend everyone and I'll be back here somewhere around Monday evening.

Evening All!

Hope your Thanksgiving's were great! We had a beautiful day here. It got up to 60 and was sunny. I'm just watching the weather, and we're gonna get snow. Supposed to start tomorrow night and go into Saturday. It's supposed to be real windy tomorrow and rainy, and the temps are gonna drop.

We had a nice day. we also had a Honeysuckle White turkey this year, and it was really good! Nice and moist, good flavor. We never stuff the bird- no one likes the stuffing inside. We had way too much food as usual. I sent all the dark turkey meat home with Jr. We all like the white meat.

Nicole, Linda and I went to Wal Mart around 8:00 tonight. The place was a madhouse!! People everywhere. We had to park a ways away and walk, so I'm glad it is nice out. Then we went to Target. I got Nicole a Nikon camera they had on sale for $99.00. The line for the checkout started out way in the back, then wrapped around to the front check outs. Only took like 20 minutes. I thought it would take longer. The line outside of Best Buy was waaaayy long when we went by there. I don't know if they were opening at 10 or at midnight.

Nicole left a few minutes ago to go shopping with one of her friends. Hope she's careful. A lot of traffic out there...

I have to get up early and be over at Ahuja for that kidney scan at 8 am tomorrow morning. That will take about 4 hours. They have one try to get the needle in my arm for the nuclear crap they'll be injecting me with. I'm not gonna be a pin cushion again.

I want to go to Kohls tomorrow and back to Wal Mart on my way home from Ahuja. Got to get to the hair place sometime over the weekend too. I keep thinking today is Sunday, lol.

I took a vacation day on Monday. I'm hoping to get some of the carpets scrubbed, have a 1:00 doctor appt., and a 3:00 appt. to get the oil changed in Tincanio at Don Sitts. A busy day.

I went out this afternoon and got Teepo cleaned, stuffed with Bounce, and covered up. She's sad now. Then I went out and brought in all my scarecrows and decorations before they get rained on, so I don't have to leave them out in the breezeway to dry for days. I hate to think about lugging down the Christmas stuff...

I had a new bird out here today! A Pileated Woodpecker. I had to look in my bird book, lol. He is beautiful! And really big!! I took some pics out the kitchen window.

well I better get to bed. Talk to ya tomorrow.

Morning all. I was pleasantly surprised how well things went yesterday. Absolutely ate too much. Then took a nice long walk around the reservoir bout 4-5 miles or so. we left pretty late and didn't get back till way after dark The dogs had a ball lots of wildlife and smells. Its fun when the park is that empty, but not safe enough to let the dogs off leash. Especially the JRT. We have a lot of coyotes and they are very bold. They will sit 20-30' away from the horse barn during morning chores. It's difficult to shush them off.It was a nice day yesterday in the upper 50's but Saturday its spose to be 70~. Here was the sunset as we started our walk.

Have a great day all.

Happy Friday to Oldsmofriends

... definitely not "black" to me (ever). I ordered me a little motorcycle trailer from Northern yesterday; I had been flirtin' with it for a year at $800, and I saw where it's on sale for 679, plus a $50 Northern gift card; so I took da' plunge. Now I'll be able to tow da' bike up to GA when I want to, and won't have to worry about securing it in the back on the truck, or ridin' it up and making the better half a total wreck. It's a perfect purpose-built trailer.

We're headed back Sunday, Jamesbo. But we'll be back up for another week some time around Christmas. Maybe we could get together for something very informal, even if just for a couple hours. I know family commitments are the norm during all these holidays; but we can give it the ol' college try....

'Twer chilly up here, too... it's actually about 7-10 degrees warmer outside the house than it is down by the road; said 44 this morning, and when we went for our little hike at Jackrabbit Mountain, it was 37.... quite a shocker....

Whelpt, I guess we gotta gut down those horible leftovers today! What a terrible thought.

Y'all take it easy at the malls; I'll certainly be taking it easy ... although not at the mall....

I'm weak - got bulldozed by Black Friday

Black Friday! Sounds ominous doesn't it. Last time we had Black Friday up here it was in reference to a Tornado that hit the City in 1986.

So now the marketing gurus in Canada figured that it's time to adopt the US Black Friday tradition. LOL I saw the morning news - there were 4 (count 'em FOUR) cars waiting at Walmart here to open at 7:00. Everywhere else was much the same. Guess we need to be conditioned a bit more.

Anyway I'm doing my part. After curling at noon, Jack and I were just about to walk out of the Saville Center when I thought, "I want to see if they have anything on sale". You may have heard of Kevin Martin - he's a curling legend - it's his store *Kevin's Rocks and Racquets*. Curling stuff usually doesn't go on sale ever until the end of the season or the start of the Brier (March). I've had my eyes on a set of Gold Line Podium Gold Pro shoes for a long time now. Problem is they cost around 275 with tax.

I picked up a pair and admired them. Then I saw they were down to ONLY 239.00! Hmmmm, but it gets better. Looking at the wall inventory there was a hastily made sign that said "All curling shoes in stock - 25% off" It was almost too good to be true. So I tried on several pairs. Oooooh, aaaaaahh. So this is what pro shoes feel like! The slider on a pro shoe is a full 1/4" thick and give incredible glide on the ice. I've been using a 5/32" slide which is ok, but those shoes are now 5 years old.

Size 11. The slider fit perfectly. The gripper felt tight. Took out the liner on the gripper and it fit perfect too. I had forgotten that my right foot is slightly bigger than my left. So I said SOLD!

The clerk goes to write up the sale. BTW they throw in another gripper (15.00) for the slider as part of every shoe purchased there. So she starts by telling me 259.99 for the shoe. Uh uh. Sign says 239. But the box says 259. So she said I could have them for 239. She rang stuff through and forgot to put in the 25% discount. uh uh. Not paying that. Somewhat flustered she recalculated, just like a Tom Tom or Garmin GPS.... and came up with a new total 188.00 which I gladly paid! (If you're keeping track, this is a huge discount - goodies and discounts total $95.00 without tax) Mmmmm, that new leather smells so good...

I know that curling doesn't excite you guys much, but this is as exciting to me for curling as finding a 1970 442 W30 left in my driveway.....I think it's going to be a huge game changer. Will find out on Sunday.

Evening All!

It was nice most of the day, until around 3 ish. Then it started getting cold. Very windy day. It started out with some rain and clouds, temps in the 50's, then the sun came out, then it got cloudy later and we had sleet/snow around 4:30. It was blowing, visibility was bad, it was a mess.

I went and had the scan this morning. Got home around 11:00. The technician wouldn't tell me anything, of course. It looked pretty much to me like the first scan looked back in May. I think the kidney is still holding fluid. I guess Dr. cha ching Banks will tell me Tuesday. The ureter tube has hurt since yesterday afternoon, and I don't like it. I think I've just over done with the lifting, bending, stretching, etc... these past few weeks. I hope that's all it is.

Nicole and Lin helped me carry containers back out to the garage earlier today, so I have to get them all put away now. Then we went to Wal Mart and Kohls. Stores were much less crowded today than they were last night. Then we took Linda home. I got home and had some leftovers to eat, and then I took a nice warm bath. I am tired.

The big woodpecker was back again today! He was making some sounds today. I got another suet feeder at Wal Mart today when we were there, for him. He sure is pretty!

I see Teepo is a calendar girl again!! Got to get an order placed!

Well you all have a good evening. I gots to get a piece of pie now!

Definition of cheap

Had to share this with you guys...

Four old retired guys are walking down a street in Yuma , Arizona . They turn a corner and see a sign that says, "Old Timers Bar - ALL drinks 10 cents." They look at each other and then go in thinking "This is too good to be true".

The old bartender says in a voice that carries across the room, "Come on in and let me pour one for you! What'll it be, gentlemen?"

There's a fully stocked bar, so each of the men orders a martini. In no time the bartender serves up four iced martinis - shaken, not stirred - and says, "That'll be 10 cents each, please." The four guys stare at the bartender for a moment, then at each other. They can't believe their good luck. They pay the 40 cents, finish their martinis, and order another round.

Again, four excellent martinis are produced, with the bartender again saying, "That's 40 cents, please." They pay the 40 cents, but their curiosity gets the better of them. They've each had two martinis and haven't even spent a dollar yet. Finally one of them says, "How can you afford to serve martinis as good as these for a dime apiece?"

"I'm a retired tailor from Phoenix ," the bartender says, "and I always wanted to own a bar. Last year I hit the Lottery jackpot for $125 million and decided to open this place. Every drink costs a dime. Wine, liquor, beer - it's all the same."

"Wow! That's some story!" one of the men says.

As the four of them sip at their martinis, they can't help noticing seven other people at the end of the bar who don't have any drinks in front of them and haven't ordered anything the whole time they've been there. Nodding at the seven at the end of the bar, one of the men asks the bartender, "What's with them?"

The bartender says, "They're retired people from Scotland, They're waiting for Happy Hour when drinks are half-price."

My family wish you all the best for Thanksgiving although a little belated and hope it was a happy and safe time for you all.

Although Thanksgiving is not something we celebrate here, I have learnt that Norfolk Island, just off Australia, does in fact celebrate this, just a few days after the U.S.

Just had a few days putting chrome and stainless back on the Olds and progressing well. It is 11.00pm at night and 24 deg C here. Fairly warm.

Looking foreward to a few more warm days and nights to work on the Olds.

Have fun.
Yours in keeping the Oldsmobile dream alive in Aus,
J.

It doesn't surprise me that other countries adopt this holiday .... I mean , who could pass up an excuse to eat a big delicious turkey with all the trimmings ?

Norfolk Isaland is one of Australia's external Territories.
Thanksgiving was started there by the American crews of whaling ships.

But your thinking works for me, what better excuse for turkey and trimmings......and beer. Especially baceause it is summer season here.

Wow, thanks for sharing...
When I drove to Vancouver via the US, I was amazed at how much of this continent is arid....
Black Friday was also known for being the day when NA stck markets crashed , signaling the begining of the Great Depression... How ironic...sorry, just a random thought

Have a good night

Oh I see yes.
Spoke with Col, nice fellow. His car is still for sale, or was for sale about a fortnight ago when I looked.

Spent another day cleaning/organising and putting on chrome.
11.39pm here now, quitting time. Still hot as out there though.

Good morning all

Yes, haven't heard from Don in quite awhile either. Great guy loved the picture of him in his Lasalle Convert. I also hope all is well with him and his wife. I was not here for awhile myself. Sometimes life gets in the way and you have to take care of business. When I am away I miss all the back and forth banter here. It's good to be back again. Have a great Sunday all.

Yes Udo and Wolfie, haven't heard from them in a while. And Blue seemed like a great guy and he was a hoot too.

Yup, Blue had an interesting point of view on most things including those crazy attacks of the flying monkeys. He was back here for awhile this year but I don't know where he's gone. He updated his avatar from that beautiful 71 VC he did to a 90's one. I liked the 71 way better. I guess he'll make up his mind when he's ready to c'mon back.

IIRC Wolfie was having a lot of medical issues. Can't remember exactly what but I think it was with his back?? Hope he's ok.

No idea where the others migrated to.

Eeek! I just got asked to delete some posts in Jamesbo's famous Humor du jour thread. Apparently there are some folks who are hyper sensitive to what they read. Clint??? You best watch yerself what you post there too from now on. I'll just send them to you at your home email to avoid that hassle. Oh yeah! Before I forget, How's EARL???

Evening All!

It was a sunny but cold day here today. It got up to 40, most of the snow melted. For some reason the salt truck went down the road this morning..... all we had was a dusting.

I got our bedroom carpet scrubbed this morning, then went to the hair dresser. That took up most of my day. Came home and planted the mums out of the pots into the flower bed on the side of the house. Didn't get a whole lot accomplished today.

It will be nice to have tomorrow off, even though I have a lot of running and work around here to do.

We sure have had a lot of friends leave the site, haven't we?? Wolfie had those back and neck problems. I don't know if he ever got them taken care of or not. He sure was miserable. Still don't know what happened to Blue. I sure do miss him. Adrian is alive and well. He's on facebook. I'm anxious to hear about the mystery car....

Well you all have a great evening!

Good Evening Everyone.

There were also the 2 Tony's that posted in this thread.

Well Allan, I had my first snow driving experience for the winter of 2012/13. My Dad and I went down to NY state to pick up some parts for his Ram we are working on. The weather was nice in Ottawa, and in the 2 towns we went to, but in between I had to deal with driving in this.

I saw half a dozen cars in the ditch. At one point, the 2 cars in front of me both started sliding and the closer one got almost sideways trying to avoid the first. I am glad I was leaving a BIG space in front of me.

Sandy, if there was any snow falling at all, they are better with the salt than here. They have been salting the roads here for a week or 2 and have not had much rain let alone any snow.

J. have fun working on the Olds, and the nice weather.

Allan, that is a good one about the bar.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Mornin all.

J. Welcome to the thread.

Paul that looks awfully crappy. we need some snow, but I'm still not ready for it.

Allan I'll have to check out what happened to the joke thread. You gettin me in trouble?

Ted, You sure have a lot of moisture up there. we are really dry most of the year. been here my whole life so I'm kinda used to it. Then when I visit a place like Vancouver or Portland, its a real treat.

Well, Sandy I sure wish my dad would have wanted a bigger dog, but he's a small dog guy. I picked up this little guy yesterday for my dad. Sure hope he likes him.

Hey good morning everyone.

Man what an incredible weekend! I heard the count was 5500 cars this year at the Turkey Rod Run. I was sad that I wouldn't be able to go next year as my schedule has me working, but I think I'll have to bid vacation so I can go. Got home last night around 830, so my friend wouldn't have to take me to the airport and mess up her work routine this morning.

I probably could have counted on two people's hands the number of Oldsmobiles I saw. I did see a bathtub Custom Cruiser done up as a H/O that looked sharp. Several Cutlass convertibles, a couple of 50s cars, a 69 Vista Cruiser.

So now I'm back and it's a beautiful day. Got some running around to do this morning then I'll pick up the dogs. I'm sure they missed me. I know I missed them.

Have a good one everybody catch up with you later.

Good morning all

Snow is meant to be in the mountains where you can go play not in the low lands. Don't need it don't want it. Have to go to Iowa Tuesday and Wednesday so I'll be out of touch until Thursday. Have a great Monday well as good as you can considering its a work day for some of us
