Jim - Looks like a very delicious dinner. I'm out right now getting burgers from our favorite local greasy spoon. Momma's eating a healthy salad made at home. The dogs will split one double burger, one patty each, with a cut up cheese stick for each. I'll wolf down 4 double burgers and some Spicy Nacho Doritos. One of my very favorite meals.

Norm, Johnston City is the town north of Marion by I 57. Yes Chris, I remember Rend lake. I think it is a man made reservoir lake that was flooded in the 60's. Seems like the grandparents were talking about it and I think we went to look at it. Wow this brings back old memories, I remember the TV station was broadcasted from St Louis MO. I remember we rode to SL for something in gramp's 70 98. Went thru east St Louis Ill. What I remember of ESL was pretty rough area!

Greg - If you made the trip to St. Louis, I'm sure it was to see either the Arch, our Zoo, or both. Our Zoo is terrific and it's biggest Champion was Marlin Perkins of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom fame. You have a good memory, East St. Louis (IL side of the river) has always been a rough place. Reminds me of the differences between St. Joe and Benton Harbor in Michigan.

Yep, it sure is! The movie Escape from New York was predominantly filmed in East St. Louis because of the tremendous degree of urban decay.

East St. Louis is a hole.

John's law of Unknown Illinois Municipalities: If you hear an Illinois town, and don't know it; it's a suburb of Chicago.

Bob (Kerr)'s Corollary to the above: Or near East St. Louis.

Jim - The grits look delicious, but I'm not sure how well my stomach would handle the peppers and onions this early in the morning, might need to wait until at least Brunch.

Ya, I completely understand that. I do the whole eating/nutrition regimen thing wrong according to the experts, the "breakfast should be the largest meal", yada, yada. On most days since my mid-20's, I've only ate one meal a day, usually in the late afternoon, with sometimes a desert in the later evening. Why do this? When I eat, I like to get full, and when I eat 4 double burgers or similar amount of other food I'm full, but not uncomfortable . Problem is if I ate 3 meals a day like that I'd weigh 300 lbs. Certainly not the best way to do it, but it works for me, at least my health records seem to support it.

Insert humor here >>> Don't eat anything w/ an *******.
No, the statement is not in reference to eating with someone else, who may be an *******. I recall reading this somewhere (back in the 80s, I believe). I think it may have been a reference to either Jerry (Garcia) or Bob (Weir) or someone else in the GD. As everyone knew, Jerry was a terrible picture of health, having nearly died from diabetic coma but ultimately succumbing to heroin. I think someone suggested to Jerry (after his diabetic coma episode) he should eat healthier and his response was something to the effect of "I don't eat anything with an *******" or "I can't eat anything with an *******"...something like that.

John correctly identified how to keep a secret >>>#51

A secret can be kept by three men, if two of them are dead.

Ya, very cold for you. Makes it feel even worse when you're not used to it. It's 9° here right now and not supposed to get above 25°, just brutal. Hate it, hate it, hate it!

These homes aren't designed/built for these temperatures...not like those in Zamboni land. I will say the massive improvements I've made over the years have paid off big time on HVAC bills, though. It pays to correctly restore & upgrade stuff on a 93 year old place .

Thats chilly down your way guys hang in there.

We had 12-15" snowfall a week ago this past Friday along with a following dip into sub zero and single digit temps. 25-30below wind chill most of the week.
Just now getting a break coming should be 10-15deg above normal starting tomorrow sometime. Just glad it was somewhat short lived.

On the up side also is the 40+ minutes of daylight since 12/21/23 and gaining by the day.

Keith

It is certainly a thing. At the height of the year, it is light approx 15.5 hours at my place a day. In the bottom, it is light for 9.5 hours.

Hi everyone.

It's a whopping 35 here right now. Supposed to warm up to 60 this week but of course rain. I think I'd rather just have cold.

Off work tomorrow so I can go to the doctor. I called in July to schedule a physical, and the earliest they had was January. Since this office was bought out by some "group" they have been intolerable to work with. I live close to a big hospital and there are hundreds of doctors in the area, why I've been putting up with this I don't know. I need to start some research into finding someone new that's for sure.

Chris you know that lion picture that was on your car in the commercial, I saw a huge one on a Dodge Daytona the other day. The car was black and the decal was aqua. I wouldn't have thought much about it except I recognized it from the commercial.

Done with Walmart and have a couple things to do out on the driveway. One thing I need to get to is cleaning up the Mercedes a little and getting it gone. I knew better than to buy it in the first place. If I'd put a battery in it it would run like a champ, but there are a few things wrong with it that I just can't be bothered with, and the top is borderline shredded. I'll probably donate it to a children's cancer charity or something and just have have it hauled off. I should get a pretty good deduction for it.

Jamesbo I got a question for you. Not sure if this is your wheelhouse or not but I'll give it a try. My friend in Alabama lives in his parents' house. The parents owned this house and the one next door and the sister lives in that one, and has for free for close to 20 years. The parents died and what was supposed to happen each was to be refinanced and half of the value of each house was supposed to be given to the other sibling. My friend refinanced his house and gave his sister about 40K. I told him not to. The sister is not in any hurry to refinance her house and the husband is squawking because they paid 30K to add a garage. So here's the question. If the sister refinances her house do they have to give my friend money based on the value of the house as it is, or can they deduct the cost of the garage from the total value? I don't think my friend is ever going to see a dime.

Well the sun is out so I'm going to go putter around outside. Hope everyone is having a good day.

Mike - Your question reminds of the type questions they ask on the GRE (Graduate Record Examination).

Is that good or bad Norm? I dont know what a GRE is. Jamesbo I dont think there is a document. I think my friend is screwed. His house is worth more than his sister's, so I suggested he deduct the amoint of what she would owe him and give her the balance, then she wouldnt have to do anything. Nope, cant do it. Just thought I'd ask.

The GRE is like the SAT to get into grad school. I took it once and did well enough to get into grad school.
