Chris, sorry that you ran into a scammer, but at least you caught it before getting burned. Haven't heard from my budddy yet, I may go out to his place this weekend and bend his ear a bit. Mike, the 3.6 is the premium GM V6, originally a Caddy engine that made it's way into the other divsions. More hp and torque than the 3.5, which was 252 hp and 251 lbft in my '07 . The only way to get it in a Saturn was to get the top trim XR, which mine was, or the Vue suv with the XR trim package. They now produce over 300hp in Caddys where used, and in the Camaro, and Buick LaCross. I think they need a Big Wiggly Teeters up here.

Norm, Fuisick's may have a switch, if not try Scott Winn on this site.

Not a problem. Checked my Fusick's catalog, and they do have them listed. Hopefully that's the cure.

Dan - Thanks. I have found several switches. It's a matter of negotiating the labyrinth of misinformation as to which switch is the "correct" switch. I hate making a purchase without having the broken switch in my hand to view. As an example, in the GM Oldsmobile parts book:
70-72 F85 Cony. ... 405385 1 7.70 SWITCH ASSY. accessory
71.72 Cony. exc. F85 408462 1 8.55 SWITCH ASSY
Fusick lists the part replaced GM 405385...Hmmm. Well, my CS convertible is not an F85. Supposedly, the correct part number from Fusick is 408462. Sometimes a basic cluster phuque find the correct item.

And, then you have this array of B.S. listed and not listed. I previously (last year) suspected a failing SW. I researched this company and think they're of reputable quality. Yet, their actual website doesn't even list a switch; but, their eBay site does list a switch; but, the shenanigans begins when you read the description and compatibility and the 1971 Cutlass w/ 5.7 (350cid) is not listed as compatible. It's a zoo sometimes.

Dan - I just called and spoke with a live human being at Hydro-E-Lectric (the eBay listing). Great person I spoke with. Bottom line is yes it's an exact fit for my '71 CS Convertible. I just purchased it. Thanks for reaching out.

Wet panties gal just texted me - would like to see the car tomorrow @ 1PM at my club w/ her husband (she's playing 18 in the morning). I said sure. Glad her hubby is going to be w/ her when I drop the news the power top SW is FUBAR. At any rate, the SW is ordered. The top is currently in the UP position and I really don't want to put the top in the DOWN position just to show it off. I think I could manually lowering the top simply lifting it and lowering it, but I'm suspect the hydraulic rams are best suited to returning the more correct position when lowering/raising is performed under hydraulic load with the top electric (hydraulic) motor.

Jim - Sure thing, no problem. I told her $27,500.00. Honestly, I'm not going to budge from that price. I've been doing some very modest research on pricing and I believe I'm spot-on in terms of price. Honestly, the prices have been going up & up during the past couple years. I see many listed in the $30K+ range. If she (they) squawk when I say $27.5K is firm no lower - I politely say they have first dibs when I list it for $29,995 at the end of May.

Sound reasonable to me When the top goes down [ assuming it will soon] the price goes up Unless she wants to go down then negotiation are wide open

I wouldn't sell the car w/ a non-functioning power top SW. She'll have to wait until I R&R the SW next week, or wait until the end of May. Most likely scenario is she'll want to wet her panties driving it with the top down. So, tomorrow will be a look-see for them both when I tell them the SW just went Tango Uniform. If they want the car, that's fine - write me a check or give me a refundable deposit on condition the top SW is working. If it were me, I'd wait until next week after I R&R the SW and she can wet her panties. Although, if that happens when she's driving the car does that increase the price or lower the price?

Norm - I recently saw a very nice one just like your's sell on a site for $32K. I agree your price is more than fair! I think I might have started at $35K and negotiated, people love it when they think they're getting a deal!

There are some, very, very minor cosmetics & picky things which keep me from asking $30K+. Additionally, depending on how a vehicle is sold, say for instance at an auction house, by the time you take it to the auction house, show it off several times with a reserve, then pay the auction house fees, you have to consider the time & money spent selling a vehicle. If this sale, more or less, falls into my lap I think it's a win. I have a laissez-faire attitude.

I'm of the opinion when a prospective buyer is considering buying something from me, once we establish some level of communication, I don't have patience for haggling over price just to think they're getting a deal. That's my price, I know exactly what you're purchasing. Grab a cookie on your way out if you don't like the price.

Thanks Dan, I'm sure glad I didn't try to buy them! Pretty much sucks having a pretty rare engine. Right now, the only legit USA made lifters I can find are $400 a set, that's pretty outrageous!

Norm - I saw those, but did you read the note. If they are quality steel, not sure why they are oxidizing so much on the lifter face (dull)??? They should be a shiny steel face.

Chris - They're 50+ yrs old and have not been sitting/soaking in an oil bath - expect modest dullness/oxidation (emory cloth).

For future reference, the F-85 is both a trim level sold during several years, and also the entire A-body line of Oldsmobile. So, when they say switch, F-85, they mean A bodies. Switch, excl F-85, means big cars.

John - Ah, yes. I knew that all A-Body were F-85. Not sure why what I read made no sense, but it didn't. Thanks for following up to validate. I have my days.

Norm - I honestly don't know if it's an issue or not? Since I started looking I've seen lots of pics of other older NOS lifters and have not seen a batch oxidized like those??? It may be nothing, and like you said, a light buffing with an emory cloth and they might look just fine.

Since the 1st day I began using this seasoning it's become one of my all-time favorites - a delicious combination of spices, w/ chunky garlic, of course.
It's sold in smaller (spice rack) containers, as well.

You can see price of the spice-rack container (found in many grocery stores) is ~$6.00 - $7.00 (4.75 Ounce). Whereas, the 25 oz. container is one hell of a savings at $15.00.

Good morning everyone.

Day 2 of the slowest yet of wall guys. We've been at it over an hour and I have one wheel signed. I'm over it. He's also one of those guys who needs validation for everything. I know a couple people like that.

Got the truck to the mechanic yesterday and the office lady was nice enough to give me a ride home. I wouldn't mind if he started on it first thing and finished up today. I'm guessing this is going to be a pricey venture. That's okay, I'm not doing it and that's what matters. Now, if I had a drive on lift with a mini lift inside it, I could do it a little easier.

Norm good luck with your meeting today. Be sure to wear your galoshes.

Okay wheel #2 is upon us. No turning back now. Have a good day everyone.

Mike - Thanks. I was thinking of wearing my waders. Perhaps, the reason your wall guy needs validation is because he lacks confidence? You could help/assist to build confidence in him maybe. I think I know the type you're referring to. I'd most likely prefer to deal w/ that type personality than the guy who thinks they know it all and when you check their work it's terrible. The trans does sound pricey. Dig out a six foot pit w/ your backhoe & you'll have a drive-on mechanic/inspection pit - done deal.

Eh Norm I'm not the nurturing type. He just has poor working habits. He'd rather walk around and talk with his buddies than do the work. Our lead is weak and lets this kind of **** go on. It's above my pay grade.

Ah she's not my type. That was a joke. Ya give me the tranny. (to paraphrase Caddyshack)

Got a new robot guy. He's awesome. Wall guy just now gave me the wheel I should have gotten before lunch. He's not awesome.

I need to go to the battery store. The new Imperial needs a battery. Why should I not be surprised. The 57 Chevy needs a battery and then my hot rodder neighbor will work on it for me, the blue van needs a battery because it's been sitting discharged for a number of years. I have cores so I can get the new batteries without taking the old ones out. I know they will come out anyway.

Good afternoon guys,

Beautiful day today, sunny and near 70°. Cut a couple of big limbs off the Cherry tree out front,, at least big for a 14" electric chainsaw, getting them away from my new gutters on the front of the house. One limb was directly in line and over a double window in front of the house. Despite my reservations, I was able to hold the limb with one hand while up on the ladder and run the chainsaw with the other, and direct the fall of the limb so it didn't fall into the window and tear a screen or break a pane.

Was able to acquire a "like new" portable basketball goal (wheels and weighted base) from my next door neighbor for free for my Grandson. My neighbor just wanted it gone since his son will be gone soon and it was just taking up space in his garage. These things go for about $250, and I tried to give my neighbor something for it but he wouldn't take it. Boy was my Grandson excited when they came to pick it up last night.

Hope everyone had a great day! We've got rain and storms moving in later tonight and tomorrow, supposedly with high winds. That was another reason I wanted to get those limbs down.
