Cornbread should be spicier (hotter). Should have used three peppers.

Lemon Bars are in the oven right now! Didn't make them the other day when I mentioned it because my wife had already gotten out the stuff to make one of those Lemon/Blueberry Pound Cakes I have posted before. Will post a pic as soon as they're out of the oven. First they need to cool a little and then they get the powdered sugar dusting. Then an hour in the fridge and they can be cut and devoured.

Hi everyone.

Long couple of days. Mom's surgery was today. She did okay but failed the physical therapy, so she has to stay overnight in the hospital. I expect her to do well on the retry tomorrow.

Got some catching up to do then hit the sack. I don't know if I'll have time for the Awful house tomorrow morning or not. We'll see. hope everyone has a good evening.

Mike - Happy to hear surgery went well and your Mom is resting - I'm sure she is very, very exhausted. I'm sure it's been a very long couple of days for you. Thanks for the update. Get some rest.

Thinking of the SmartTV upgrade thing w/ some of my friend(s) owning these Drive-In theater size screens (86"+), I have visions of Alex' aversion therapy in Clockwork Orange.

Norm - I have to admit when we first switched from a 55" to a 70" a few years ago, it actually took a few days to get used to such a large screen, even though we have a fairly large Great Room and sit 14-ft from it (actually just measured it). It certainly isn't just the screen size that impresses you though, the picture clarity, sharpness, and color is just so, so much better. Ours was actually a Christmas present to ourselves. We don't spend money anymore going out to Movie Theatres, Night Club's, or Fine Restaurants, so for something we were going to get significant enjoyment out of nearly everyday, it was a no brainer. Even with what we paid for ours a few years ago, it costs us <$1/day when you figure you'll have it at least 4 or 5 years!

Chris - I bought the 32" CRT TV 2003 ($700) - it works perfectly. Obviously, is not HD nor a SmartTV. The largest size (physical dimension) I can get in my Armoire cabinet is 40" wide (physically). This equates to roughly a 42" (diagonal) screen or roughly a 48" (diagonal) screen - depending on manufacturer. At this size range they're pennies on the dollar; yet, I have to think what am I gaining - including throwing out a perfectly good television. I most likely could give it away I suspect. More thinking needed...

Mike, hope that your mom has a quick recovery. Sizable earthquake in Cali. I see. Chris, pizza turned out good, I baked it for 20 minutes, I'll shoot for 22 next time as it was a little soft in the middle. The cooks amongst us are out. Looks like some crappy weather hitting a large swath of the U.S. It will start Thursday evening for us, with blizzard conditions on Friday, winds up to 60mph, and snow in areas up to 2ft. With those winds, there will be drifts. Fridays commute will be interesting. My buddies wife just bought him a 85" TV for their wedding anniversary, saw it on the 10th, quite large. She told me that the diamond bracelet he bought her was worth four of the TV's. "Bell collection area" LOL.

Dan - Glad the pizza was good, sorry the center was a little soft. It was trial and error the 1st couple times I tried cooking them too. We all know every oven's different, and I found I had to get the top getting a little dark (which I don't mind), in order for the crust to be nice and crunchy all the way across. Sounds like some nasty stuff headed your way, here too! Starting about 3:00am here on Thursday the temps will start to drop, and calling for 2 - 4 inches, with the high winds and drifting. My wife's supposed to have a scan about 10-miles from us early Thursday morning and I'm just hoping the worst of it doesn't start before we get home! Friday morning is now projected for a low of -5° F, UGH!!! I Hate winter soooooo much!

Reminds me of 30 plus years ago. I was at a buddies place in his pole barn in January, helping him rebuild the engine for my '86 Ford Ranger, no heat, I was freezing and making comments about it whilst bundled up in winter gear, he was wearing a long sleeve flannel shirt with a t shirt underneath. No complaints from him. He was from Fla. originally, and me, from Alaska. Go figure. Chris, it is very rare that we have red for severe weather risk on our weather forecast map, but that's what we're showing for Friday and Saturday. Ain't gonna be pretty. Hope that I don't lose my power.

Tomorrow marks the day with the least amount of daylight (4:47PM ET to be exact). After 4:47PM ET we'll gain an extra one minute/day (avg.).

Hi everyone.

Not quite as long of a day. Got to the hospital around noon or a little before, expecting to see the physical therapist and then come home. Curveball. This woman comes in and says she's a case worker. Would we be interested in two weeks of acute in-patient therapy. Go to this place for 14 days, therapy every day, doctor visits every other day. Occupational therapy as well. Since Mom doesn't work, that means getting around the house, getting in and out of the car, doing laundry, cooking, anything she'd do on her own at home. Medicare pays for it all, costs us zero. Mom didn't want to do it. Didn't want to be away from home two weeks. We sort of coaxed her into agreeing, the alternative was home care three times a week for an hour. Rehab would be so much better, she'd be farther ahead, she'd have professionals to help her 24 hours a day. Finally she agreed. The facility picked her up and took her to the place, my sister and I ran a couple errands and got her some things from home, and then went to see her this evening. I'm not sure she's totally on board with the whole thing yet, but it will be wonderful for her I can see. My sister and I went to the place and they gave us a tour before Mom decided. It's really nice. Pretty new. She'll get a lot out of it, even if she doesn't want to.

Rain all day, maybe 50. Not sure about the rest of the week. I might try to go to Awful house tomorrow, it was nice to sleep in this morning.

Well I'm beat. Hope everyone has a good evening.

Family in Louisiana is in for a shock. Thursday night low in the teens, Friday high 35, then lows in the 20s through the weekend and into next week. Cold and humid. Brrrrrr.

Phoenix forecast for Christmas is 70F. 😊

Mike, that is the right decision you guys made. I hope she will stay with it. Old folks (actually all of us....) want to be home. I'll bet she will show a great improvement. Yesterday me and another volunteer gave a 22 yr old woman, her mother, 2 yr old son and a male " friend" a "CAC" (Red Cross client assistance card). There was a fire at her place- of course only a couple days b4 Christmas! I also went to see a really sweet 75 yr old man ( looks like 95 year old) who is in the hospice system- he has no family. Count your blessings guys!!

Greg - When I first moved to North Carolina (1998) I resided in Salisbury, NC & I rented a house across the street from Liddy (Mary Elizabeth Alexander Hanford) Dole's mom (Mary Ella Cathey Hanford). Her mom was 98 y.o. when I moved in; she died (2002) @ 102 y.o. Thanks for your Red Cross volunteer contributions.

Good morning guys,

Foggy and 28° here right now at 0830. You can see the light glaze of ice on raised surfaces like the deck railing. Bracing for the snow and extreme cold that's coming tomorrow. I'm just hoping I can get my wife to/from her appointment tomorrow morning safely.

Mike - Good on you for your efforts to get your Mom to go to PT! Do everything you can to get her to stay and get the professional help she needs, she'll appreciate it in the long run.

Greg - Thanks for your volunteer work with the RC! I always used to tell my kids, you only have to look as far as the end of your nose to find someone whose life is much worse off than their's was. Your stories are perfect examples!

Norm - That video was like nails on a chalkboard, why in the hell would you do that to us so early in the morning!!!!

Hope ya'll have a great day!

So, I take it there'll be snow in Wisconsin. I'm glad that we have Lake Michigan between us and Wisc. as there will be about a +15° difference in the wind chill due to the warmer air over the water. The negative is that we will end up with lake effect snow.
