We'll see. Bret is one of the best coaches the Fighting Illini have seen in quite some time w/ a respectable 7-3 season thus far. How's the injured list look for the Wolverines?

I agree Bilema has done a great job restoring their program to competitiveness. Michigan is a little banged up, but no real worries, all the key personnel will be available, and they're deep. Big factor, they're in "The Big House". I just hope Michigan is not looking past them to the game next week with OSU, that could be a big mistake!

Norm he felt and knew those crew members, I get it. Thanks for sharing the connection it means much. That story will live on in all that get it. God Bless

Norm glad to see the milk shake return before the dead of winter. I was thinking about that the other day.

Did some laundry when I got home that's about it. Actually wasn't too cold out, the sun was out.

Tomorrow I'm sleeping in, and if my assistant doesn't like it, he can sleep outside.

--OK guys- a few questions about tires for my Daily- 2019 GMC Acadia. And a few bitches about on line tire browsing... Bought this car in Feb-used with 26,000 miles. I thought needed tires but didn't get them then. Now has 43,000 mile and needs tires for sure. Anyway decided to get a Discount Tire charge card cuz free interest for 6 month. Went ahead and ordered 4 245/65 r 17 tires at Discount tire online and put them on card- about $744. mounted etc with out road hazard. Then wife came back with car and found it has 235/65r 18's.... UGH.... So went to cancel 1st tire order. Got flustered and ended up chatting with Belle tire after punching in Discount tire- He assured me my order was cancelled... yeah right I wasn't even chatting with the right place... OK That's my bitch- Its so easy to get confused on line.. OK nuff of that- back to tires....
-- Worn out tires are Continental Cross Connect I don't want them again. I bought the Bridgestone Dualer but in the wrong size like I said for about 744. So after looking around I found Goodyear Assurance in the 18" for $105. each at Walmart on line- Mounted and total with tax about $510! Pretty good savings from 744, Oh and the correct 18" size is more that the incorrect 17's thru Discount Online. It appears these Goodyear Assurance all season tires are sold only at Walmart according to the little video. Anyone just bought tires etc? Any advice???

Greg - The only tires I've ever purchased on-line were motorcycle tires so I'm really in no position to comment regarding automotive tires. Sorry.

Greg, I typically buy tires off tirerack.com and have them drop shipped to me. I then take everything to a local old time mechanic who removes the old tires, put the new tires and valves on and balances them for me, and I pick everything up after work. A lot of tire places refuse to mount tires customers bring in; they lie and say it's because of insurance, but it's because they want the markup from tire sales. My guys, they're happy I just give them stuff in boxes outside and they get to it when they can over the day and I give them 48 bucks for 4.

Greg - You sure those Continental tires on the Acadia are not Cross Contacts, vs the "Cross Connects" you listed. I'm just curious because our Hyundai AWD SUV has the same size but they're called Cross Contacts. I have been happy with them, 40K-miles on them now and will get me thru another season but will need new ones before next winter.

The last set of tires I bought was 4 or 5-years ago, I made the purchase online via Walmart with the intent of having the tires installed at the local Walmart like you described above. At the time I wanted some raised white letter Goodyear Wrangler A/T's for my Ford F150 4x4, and Walmart had the cheapest price. I had no issues with the online purchase or installation. Around here, usually the cheapest tire deals are at Walmart, Sam's Club, or Costco. Hope some little part of this helps.

Chris, good news on the wife's follow up with the Dr.s. One of my best friends just got the same good news with his Dr., cancer free. I was at Chris Craft when the Edmund Fitzgerald sank, remember it well. Norm, you're gonna hafta drink your tears with your beer. They played a good game, same style in my opinion as Michigan, and as sloppy as Mich. played, I'm surprised that they won. I've had three sets of Conti's, a very good tire. I went to them when Michelin's price got too steep. They match Michelin in every aspect in the testing done by the tire rack. I have Nokian's now, that I will replace shortly, only because Continential didn't have much of a light A/T tire three years ago.

Dan - I am surprised UofM won that game too. I don't know that I'd have had the ***** to go for the field goal when Michigan did with 3 minutes left, but I guess that's why Harbaugh is making the big bucks! Guess he was thinking I've got the best kicker in the country that has a range of 55-yards, and he called it right. Really hope Corum, Edward's, and Schoonmaker are all back for the OSU game, it will be tough enough with them, almost impossible without them, especially playing in Columbus. I agree with ya, I have absolutely no complaints about the Conti's on our Hyundai Santa Fe AWD.
P.S. thanks for the congrats on my wife's prognosis.

Dan/Chris - They both played the same game. Harbaugh really had no other decision to make - kick the field goal.

Hi everyone.

Was nice here today. Periods of sun and periods of clouds. Don't know what that was about. Maybe 55 out.

I mowed a little bit today. Was going to try to work at getting the Chev out some more but there's a Cutlass in the way. This is how smart I am. I bought this beautiful, good running, clean car from a guy here on the forum, got new tires for it, then let it set. It had a couple issues that had nothing to do with the way it drove, and I didn't do anything with it. Now, the brakes are phuqued, it won't start, and the back window started leaking and I didn't know it so now there's a massive colony of funk growing inside. Sheesh.

Greg, I can't tell you how many sets of tires I've bought from Discount. The place by me is real good at dismounting some scrap tires I have and not charging me, and getting me in when I don't have an appointment. I bought a set of tires for the Aura last year, General RT43. I like them a lot. Look up the reviews and see if they do well for your vehicle.

Well Mom is for sure out of the running for next Tuesday. She is rescheduled for Monday December 19. She's disappointed but the doctor had a fit when she told him what was going on and he said no way. So that's that. It gives me a couple more weeks to get things done.

Okay gonna relax and watch some TV. Have a good evening everyone.

Yeah Chris probably are Cross Contacts. Wow I am surprised you and Dan both like those tires, When I bought this Acadia with 26K on it they looked worn out to me. They had 6/32 tread depth. They were worn even- not scalped but worn. I told the salesman they looked bad and he agreed- he said they would put new tires on it as a GM certified car. Well after he talked to manager I didn't get new tires. They said these Continentals are different and not considered worn until at 3/32nds. Well anyway I bought car and now they have 3/32 at 43 K. They are for sure worn out now. Driving it in snow today and it is scary.. My buddy has a Chevy Traverse with 62K on it and his original tires look way better than these contis with about 20K less miles. Well we went to Mt Pleasant today and stopped at Wally World and asked about tires. I guess I am going to get those Goodyears there. Thanks for the advice guys...

Greg - I just recently turned 40K on the Hyundai that has those tires. Looked at them closely a couple weeks ago and was thinking I definitively needed to rotate them before winter, but haven't done it yet. There looked like there was plenty of tread left though, with even wear. You've got me interested now though to see exactly how much tread depth I do have left on there???

Well I am not a tire expert . I used to sell tires at Montgomery Wards back in the 80's. Back then new standard highway or all season radial tires had about 11/32" of tread when new. Bigger lug type 4x4 or whatever had more than that. But I had a pocket protector (What a nerd!!) that had a my Wards name badge pinned on it, a pen or 2 and a clip on tire depth gauge. The gauge had a sliding pin that would go in the tread depth and tell you how deep the depth was. But after a while you could just tell that a tire looks good or worn out. That is why I thought those tires were worn out. Also you can use a penny and put in the tread. Lincolns head starts a certain distance from the edge of the coin- Which I can't remember off the top of my head_ Ha!! - Anyway I'm sure it's online somewhere. As I'm sure you remember, we need good tires here in Michigan in the winter. I am not worried about these tires being unsafe as in danger of a blowout- but unsafe as in wet roads- hydroplaning, and of course ice and snow.

Went shooting in the sun and wind and cold yesterday. My scoped target rifle was off, so worked on that. Garand is still as on as it can be for being in stock issue, and the M1A is ok, managed to hit a 400 yard dinger from a bench once, this being a 2 foot dinger. The rifle is a 2MOA battle rifle, that means it should impact in an 8 inch circle at 400 yards, assuming you do your part. Problem is getting elevation addition right to compensate for bullet drop. It's got a gradated sight for that, but I don't shoot it enough to know if it's on for Federal's 150 grain load. Sometimes you need to add a click, which is no issue, once you figure it out and write it down.

Thanks, Jim.

Small adventure in plumbing. Shaving this AM, I noticed the bathroom sink was slow to drain. Pulled the P trap, put a 2 gallon bucket in the cabinet (very handy size, highly recommended), and drained into bucket at same slow speed. Took the down pipe off and noticed 50% occlusion from crud. Pushed a paper towel through it for cleanout, and sacrificed a small bottle brush from a cheap thermos kit to clean out the rest. Lots of crud. Tested again, drains at speed of design now. Reassembled, tossed bucket of cruddy water outside. Will salvage brush and put it in the vanity cabinet back for the future. That's what six years of toothpaste and shaving hair and soap will do.

John, It doesn't matter if its the cabinet doing plumbing or the hood tooth on my 442 drop top, I always duck tape a pool noodle to the area where I'm gonna to crack my head

Excellent advice. Fortunately, I have a SMALL master bath. It is 4'x7.5" It is smaller than a standard sized sheet of plywood. You enter in the middle of one side. The window is on the other side. The sink, the toilet, and the shower stall have the first, second, and other two corners, respectively. That being said, the sink and its cabinet are about 4 square feet, so it's easy to reach in to that one. Main issue was getting out of the way to pull drawers out.

John - Glad you were able to get out, sounds like fun! Pretty damn good shooting to hit the dinger at 400-yds! Now that I hardly do any hunting, I don't shoot my large caliber rifle much anymore, mainly because ammo has gotten so high. I just checked, and the cheapest I could find was $40 for a 20 round box of Remington core lokt 7mm Rem Mag 150gr. The Federal Premiums with 160gr. Nosler Partitions I hunt with are $60 a box, $3 a round. Yikes.

The thing I really love about my Remington 700 ADL in 7mm Rem Mag is how flat shooting it is. I would purposely sight it in 3" high at 100-yds., it would then be 1" high at 200-yds., and it would only be 4" low all the way out at 300-yards. This meant I could hold dead on from 0 all the way out to 300-yds and still be in the kill zone for deer or larger game. Really took the guess work out of having to estimate the range, which often you do not have time to do.

Hi everyone.

Walmart today so I wasn't in a hurry from the beginning. Was too late to see anyone at the Awful house so I didn't stay there too long, so I went over to the line room and jawed with my neighbors for almost 4 hours. Then Walmart. I went solo today and surprise of all surprises I wasn't completely beat to death when I got out of there. Mom has no clue for what to do for Thanksgiving so I'll probably be back in there this week.

John I think you already told us of the submarine story. Once is enough, thanks. When my bathroom sink backs up I run some hot water down the drain and then use the plunger.

I think everything I own needs the tires rotated. I used to keep a list with mileage and all that, can't find the list. That's another thing about Discount Tire. They will rotate the tires for free every 6000 miles. Well, I'm sure that's built into the cost of buying the tires.

Short week at work, but not as short as it was going to be. I was able to finagle Tuesday and Wednesday off for Mom's surgery, but since that's postponed I'm going to work those days. Well, three days only and then four off. Unless the lead doesn't get any volunteers for Saturday he said he would make Friday mandatory. Heh good luck with that one.

Gonna relax a little this evening and go to bed early. Hope everyone has a good short week.

Mike, I checked the post history, I have not told such a story, but I shall refrain.

That's nice, Jim. Closest thing I have is my old man's dreiling combination gun for something nicely engraved.

John, I saw [never owned] a drilling survival gun that came in a take down wooden box out of a Messerschmitt. Maybe the rarest gun I've ever seen. [And I used to collect Confederate revolvers]

Good morning everyone.

Great start to the short week. I've got two wall guys today, both slow as molasses. I don't care.

I don't think it's going to rain this week, until Friday, so I hope I can get some outside stuff done. The lead is asking for people for Saturday. I don't want to go in because it isn't worth my time, but I need a favor from him so I have to see how things go. I hate being in a bind.

So I've been thinking about this Chevy in North Carolina. It looks like the guy has cleared over the bad paint, creating "patina" that I think looks dumb. If I wanted to repaint the car so it looked normal, would I just sand like I would any other paint and then prime and paint, or is there more to it? I tell you some of these trends people come up with.

I have my Dad's service revolver he used at the police department. It's a .357. It hasn't been shot in decades. A couple years ago I gave it to a friend of mine and he cleaned it and gave me some bullets for it. It just sits in my strongbox. I suppose I could keep it in the car in case someone cuts me off in trafic.

No target today, just gonna build until the bell. Same thing tomorrow, then go home insanely early on Wednesday. Works for me. No one is in a big hurry today, it's steady though. Have a good day everyone.

Mike, patina cleared paint can be stripped and then rust dealt with like normal. Do not carry a gun with which you have not practiced a lot.

Jim, that's a neat gun. I wonder if they all were that take down style. Mine is.
