Yeah, I wonder when the Vegas hotel / casinos will turn off all those fountains and drain their swimming pools. I would hope that's the first place that gets severe water restrictions, but seeing as Vegas casinos = $$$$ I very much doubt it. It's gonna be the farmers and ranchers that get hit first.

I think I have this figured out.

I ordered a new 16 piece set of dinnerware a couple weeks ago. One salad plate had a couple chips on the edge. I called the seller, they said they would send out another salad plate. I received several notification(s) the package was "on its way". Today, the package was delivered (via FedEx).
I received another complete 16 piece set of the same dinnerware.

If I call and say one of the dinner plates which arrived today had a couple chips on the edge would they send me another new 16 piece set? Do I now have to send back the other 15 pieces which arrived today (minus the salad plate)? So confusing, but I think I have it figured out.

Good afternoon guys,

Good news, good news, and so, so news.

Maggie is slowly making process with her injured leg without a trip to the vet. She is walking on the injured leg with only a slight limp. We're still trying to keep her from jumping up and down from the couch, and I'm still carrying her up and down the stairs, not wanting her to stress it until we're sure the leg can handle it.

My wife had her appointment with the ON/GYN oncology surgeon today. The good news here is they are still calling her condition pre-cancerous and small. The bad news is it's in a bad spot, and because of that, her next surgery will require a team of 2 different speciality surgeons. The other good news is, if they are able to get it all this time, she should be good long term. So, we're looking at one more consult with the other speciality surgeon, then scheduling the surgery probably about a month to 2-months out. To use Norm's phrase, "Baby Steps". All in all, a much better prognosis than what we could have heard!

Norm, If the broke a set to send you one salad plate, they Would have to put the broken set in a separate place and inventory what was missing

It's simpler and easier in the long run to just keep the sets whole. plus, they made you happy

Chris, sounds like good news for wife. I'm sure it is scaring the bejesus out of you guys but sounds very promising. It will be great to get it all behind you and not have to think about it anymore. That was the biggest deal about my wife's transplant, all the apprehension and dread before the surgery, then when it's over it's just the healing- much better! I know all will be great and maybe you and her can go to the Nationals!! Also sounds good for Maggie, wow those type dogs are so cool looking and cute, but apparently a high maintenance breed.

 

Greg - Thanks for the encouraging words, they are much appreciated! Yes, it is very scary, I know it is for me, and I'm sure x10 for her, but she's a pretty tough cookie and holding up well. It was much better news than we could have got, other than the need for another surgery with an even more extensive recovery time. I'm not looking at the glass half-empty, we are very encouraged with the prognosis.

As for the dogs, yes Bulldogs can be a high maintenance breed, especially from an allergy and respiratory (difficulty breathing and cooling in hot temps) standpoint, but it just depends. Monty our older male is a slim and trim picture of health. Maggie on the other hand had that surgery to help her breathe easier when she was young, and now seems to have a tendency for injury to her hind legs. She is bow legged in the rear, so she may have a structural deformity that's contributing to her injuries, and I'm sure her weight is also a contributing factor. We have definitely put her on a diet to get the excess weight off of her in hope that it helps lessen the possibility of injury down the road, it certainly will be better for her overall health.

Well the past two days I've been dog tired when I got home in the evening, and had no desire to turn on the computer. I don't know what makes me that tired in the evening, unless it's that Mom's house is 85 degrees inside and my brain is melting. We've been busy at work and I get little internet looking in.

Actually today a couple people were in on overtime and they really knocked it out. We finished 150 by lunch and the "acting" lead said he had permission to let me go home. Cool. I went to Awful house and had lunch with my Friday buddies.

Norm I don't think it's the batteries that keep going dead in my thermostat. I think it is broke. I put brand new batteries in it last night(AAAs) and it did nothing. I happened to squeeze it a little and it started working. I'd squeeze it again and it stopped. So I messed with it and it came back on and has functioned correctly all night and all day. Hm.

I need to go upstairs and see what the floor looks like behind the bedroom. I waited 4 days for the roofing guy to get me an estimate to fix the ridge vent, and now I can't get ahold of State Farm to start a claim, and we had a pretty good storm last night. Rain and a giant hole in the roof aren't a great combination. What happened to customer service.

Mike - I'm nearly positive the last time we discussed your thermostat I suggested you do in fact need a new thermostat. And, when you install the new thermostat, ensure you use some silicone to plug the hole inside the wall where the thermostat wire comes out of the wall and enters the thermostat. The moisture/humidity/dust etc. from that hole in the wall easily infiltrates the thermostat and shortens the life of the thermostat - HVAC people often don't plug that hole.

After 2-days of rain on Monday and Tuesday, it was dry today, but cool (60°) and overcast all day. At least I was able to get the yard mowed this afternoon. It's supposed to rain again Thursday and Friday. Next week we're going straight to full blown summer, forecast is for low 90's Mon. thru Friday. I say bring it on, I'm tired of this cold, nasty weather!

Maggie is approaching 100% wellness with her leg injury, and thank God I'm no longer hauling her 55 lb. **** up and down the stairs.

Norm, You seem to be well versed in chemistry

I was going to use muriatic acid to clean the fuel tank but the guy at the parts store convinced me to use acetone. Your thoughts? How long is it safe to leave it in the tank, Then what was with water? dry? After reading the pros/cons of sealing with a tank liner material, I've decided against it

Jim - Muriatic acid (HCl = Hydrochloric Acid) is fine to clean the inside of a metal gas tank. Acetone is a ketone and is modestly an acid but more of a pH neutral solution. It really depends on how thorough and what substances you're looking to remove. Without going into the chemistry, you could use either muriatic acid or acetone. Muriatic acid would be faster & most likely more thorough than acetone. After you use either one, ensure you perform a very thorough rinse with pure water for an extended period of time - a good 5' to 10' to remove any residue.

If you're mixing a solution (say diluting muriatic acid) always add acid water (not water to acid). A chemist always remembers this phrase "Do as you outa, add acid to water"). This will keep bubbles from splashing. Usually a 1:10 (acid:water) solution is a good starting point. See if it's doing the job, if not increase the amount of acid - maybe a 3:10, or 5:10 solution. This is really dependent on the concentration you begin with, most residential application containers are 14.5%, 29% or 31.5% HCl (and, this is by weight [mass]), so honestly, they're really not that strong to be honest. Nothing like the concentration you'd find in a chemistry lab, commercial/industrial strengths. Just ensure you rinse thoroughly. To give you a tinge of an idea how a highly concentrated form of HCl reacts with water - if you were to use a laboratory grade HCl and added one once of water (say a teaspoon) you'd have an explosion - how large depends on the size/amount of HCl.

 

I read your post again.

Leave either acetone or muriatic acid in the tank as long as it is actively removing sludge/gum/grease, etc. Continue the operation until clean rinse thoroughly.
You only need to reline a gas tank if rust has progressed beyond the hope of stopping and/or containing further rust. At which point if you had very serious rust, you would buy a new tank or reline. Relining is a very lengthy process. It can be done, but it requires serious attention to detail. Gasoline will not harm a steel gas tank. A steel gas tank rusts only because moisture has built-up in the tank and remains in the tank. To ward off rust, keep gas tanks full. Gasoline/Fuel filters are designed to contain/trap particles other than gasoline/fuel. People get way over the top on gas tank salvation, IMO. If it's sludge/gum/particles, etc., do as you're doing w/ HCl &/or acetone and be done with it. If it's a literal rust bucket, buy a new one or spend a month relining it.
