Chris, You may think this is weird but I often splash a little Worchester sauce on my butter beans
I went through at least sets of my grandma's dishes in the great cleanout of 19.

1 Royal Dalton that went on forever.
1 Cut Glass set
1 Pressed Glass set
3 different Havilland sets
A blue set of something
A green set of something...I've still got this one, so I can figure what it is.
and 10 or so other sets.

Plus scads of drinks glasses and other things. Got very little money for it. The auction company took labor as well as their percentage, which was not as represented.

I think a lot of auction companies are dishonest. I was happy to have the stuff gone, and gone to good homes, but I should have gone over details to a more exacting degree.

Aloha

Steady day today at work. We had very few wheels and finished up easily. Still left at 2. Hard telling what time the lead left. I gotta tell you, that irks me to no end. The lead just up and leaves and doesn't say anything. What if one of us did that? My God the earth would stop spinning.

Not bad out, it's overcast and a little chilly but better times are coming. Got some errands to run this afternoon and then over to the house to put the trash out.

My Grandmother had cabinets full of Blue Willow china the whole time I was growing up. It was decades old when I was a wee one. I remember one time my Dad got her a whole new set because she was missing several pieces, and all she did was go on about how it supposedly wasn't available anymore. He said obviously it is. I had thought about getting a set from Churchill in England. Although, there's a country restaurant not far from me called the Blue Willow Inn, and their hook is, you guessed it, they serve on Blue Willow china. I could probably get some from their gift shop. No idea what happened to all the dishes, I'm sure my uncle had a big garage sale and sold it all. Without my Dad around, we knew little of what happened with the estate.

My step dad knew a guy that had an auction house, and when my folks moved to Florida he packed up his house and had everything auctioned at this guy's place. I have no idea what he got for it all. Well, my Mom thought that was a great idea and had most of our stuff auctioned right afterward. They had just gotten married. Mom had a nice washer and dryer that wasn't too old and the auction guy said he'd get a nice amount for them, and Mom said no, they aren't included. The guy had a fit. Well, after all our stuff was gone Mom got a check for well under what his estimate was, along with a "transportation fee" that Joe was not charged. I said, there's your washer and dryer. Swine.

Kenneth what a cute pup. A little darker and that would be Tiger. Tennis ***** have a short life around here.

Jamesbo I saw another picture of a lister bag tied to a jerry can. I can't be sure, because I can only see the front, but I can just feel that my neighbor with the M38 has a lister bag tied to his jerry can.

Ug. Every afternoon after work has to count. I'm not equiped for that sort of pressure.

Peace

My favorite Pink Floyd album is The Wall. The Floyd may be my favorite band. It's a double album, tells a story, came out a week before I was born, but it's flawed and, of the 26 songs, there's only about ten that are awesome, and three or more good ones after that. Hell of a stage show that I got to see on it's 30th anniversary. More introspectively, it was the album that broke the band; there's a timeless quality to something great that has to be the last of its kind.

I'd really like to find a good original black light poster of it and have it framed to hang above my stereo with a small black light pointed at it.

I have an original pressing of The Wall on vinyl that was given to my Dad for Christmas in 1979. They are my favorite band, and eventually when I pick up a vintage receiver and turntable, I'll start looking into possibly buying their reissues on vinyl. I bought the Shine On box set on dvd the day it was issued. Had the pleasure of seeing them perform on The Division Bell tour at the Pontiac Silverdome in '94, and then to see Roger perform The Wall at Joe Louis Arena in 2012. The best two live shows I've ever seen.

Pink Floyd is "one" of my all-time favorite bands - I don't have a "favorite" band - I have many favorite bands. My lineage of Pink Floyd dates back from the early to mid-60's when Syd (Barrett) & Roger (Waters) attended H.S. together. I was listening to 45 RPM records in a sound booth at our local Rx Pharmacy & one of my friends told me about Syd & Roger & the band Pink Floyd. I was heading to Europe as an exchange student the summer of 1969 & I was reading everything I could get my hands on to learn something about Europe - of course this included music. I could write a compendium of my 1960's music knowledge but long story short, The Wall (I still own an original press vinyl platter, a tape player destroyed my 8-track version) is excellent. Pink Floyd began with a unique ensemble of individuals from various bands, but Syd & Roger were "tight" in H.S. I still rank Dark Side of The Moon as my favorite Pink Floyd album. It was during this period I became acquainted with a very lesser known audio engineer (I was heavily into audio engineering having bought my very own "mixer"). IMO, Alan (Parsons) helped to establish the stage for what would become Pink Floyd. Roger, IMO, has always had to drag David (Gilmour) along. David is truly a master of song writing & guitar playing, but it has always been Roger's band (so-to-speak).

I can't say that I have a favorite Floyd record, as I enjoy them all differently and like to vary my listening. I definitely don't care much for the early psychedelic sounds of the band, that's for certain.

Was driving up north, I think last spring, and was surprised to hear Breakdown by the Alan Parsons Project on the radio. I hadn't heard it in over 30 years, and it's been back in my playlist rotation ever since. I played it on the jukebox at The Sand Bar in Prudenville, and enjoyed watching everyone's confused looks and nods of approval once it got a few minutes in.

Since we're on it, I don't think the Wall is their best album. Also, even though Dark Side Etc is their most commercially successful, I don't think that one is their best either; I save that for Wish You Were Here.

I'm picking up used vinyl as a hobby and have at least one of everything now. I may need the soundtrack to More, still. I think I have it on CD from high school, but that was a long time ago and many miles. So many of my CDs got dishroom grease on them (we listened to rock n roll the days my group did meal crew at lunch...I went to a weird high school) and have desilvered.

I was a tape trader for ~20 years. I have cassette recordings of live performances of many bands, mostly in concert a couple of studio session recordings. At one point I had amassed 3,000+ hours of music recordings - the bands are too numerous to mention. Many of my tapes I gave away when I stopped trading, I have several handfuls of award-winning recordings. Eventually, if you're in this business/hobby long enough you know the people to know to trade for the "good stuff". The two tapes (below) I traded in 1984 - LONG before Bruce Botnick remastered the original Peter Abram's recording masters. My recordings are 4th generation. 1st generation being the original soundboard recordings by Peter Abram's off his equipment (listed here) setup at The Matrix. 2nd generation tapes were reel-to-reel (from someone) who obviously knew Peter; 3rd generations tapes I obtained a copies of from my friend in Florida. Thus, my cassettes are 4th generation sound-board tapes - you can hear a mouse fart &/or a needle fall on the floor. You can also hear all of maybe six people in the small audience clapping after Jim (Morrison) delivered King Snake. I have the 3/6/67 & 3/10/67 shows with one "filler" from the 3/7/67 show - a song entitled "Back Door Man" (recorded live @ The Matrix 4th gen soundboard tape). I used to make my own cassette case covers (Sunflower Studios) when trading.

I have The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon in my stack o' albums that were purchased in the 80s.

And the most listened to albums are kept in a peach crate beside the turntable.

Jeff, Ahh yes... the Sandbar. I love that place! So is that where James Lake is, veer off to the right at the M55 M18 intersection?? We "discovered" the Sandbar a few years ago, like going back to the 70's, complete with 1970's dirt.. quite the place.
-- Oh yeah, I also love Pink Floyd. It was so funny back then if you liked Floyd you were labeled as a pot smoker( prolly true), now it is considered almost main stream. I heard "Money" made into "elevator Music" at a store the other day....

Good morning guys,

Warmer this morning, 27° at 0700, and supposed to get up close to 60° this afternoon with full sunshine. Should get rid of most of the rest of the snow by the end of today. Today might be a good day to take the dogs out for a walk around the neighborhood, give them a little change of scenery. They enjoy walks when the temps are moderate, and 60° is about perfect for them.

No other big plans for me today. Wife will be getting busy working on her furniture again in the basement with the warmer temp. She has appointments for a couple of medical scans back to back tomorrow I have to take her to, and then more dental surgery on Thursday that has previously been postponed twice, once because the office got backed up because of Covid, and the 2nd time because of the snowstorm last Thursday. This time they are supposed to be inserting the posts (4) into the sockets that were previously implanted in her jawbone. After that heals, they will take impressions and manufacture the actual crowns that will go on the posts. It's a long, painful, PIA process! Makes me feel lucky my teeth are as good as they are!

Hope everyone has a great day!

James - You're right, it ain't cheap, but I count my lucky stars that I have some decent dental insurance that pays about half for that kind of work! Still ain't cheap, even with insurance! Doesn't matter though, even if we didn't have insurance I'd spend every penny I've got if it meant she doesn't have to live with constant mouth pain.

Porsches cost more than that.

I hope all this stuff melts. I put a tub by my mailbox for packages yesterday and the dude put them there. I did roll down my driveway and go to work today. I hope it is melted this evening.

I called out The Sandbar specifically for you, Greg! I was wondering if you had the pleasure of patronizing. That place must've been fantastic in the 70's. Now... the diviest of dive bars. Lake James is reached by heading down the street between Chucks (the old Hub grocery store) and Walgreens.

Saw PF in Chicago at the Rosemount (Rosemont?) in 1988, again in Detroit in '94, and "The Wall" (Roger Waters) in 2010 in Grand Rapids, Mi. I wanted to see Roger Waters "Us & Them" tour, but my friends weren't doing anything due to covid. I think that he is in Detroit next month for the "This isn't a Drill" tour, but again, no takers. One buddy wants to see them, but is very reluctant to go to any group event at this time, and another friend, who is a fan, can't do diddly anymore due to two back surgeries. Went to the Endodontist this morning, who did my root canal last Sept., to have a look at was an abcess on the same tooth. Due to a crack in one root, he will do a removal of one root on Thursday. Says the tooth might have five years left in it. Looks like an implant down the road, $$$. By the way, if you are young enough, and smart enough, an Endodontist might be the way to go career-wise. One of my best friend's son just finished up his education in Chicago (already a dentist) and recieved an offer in Seattle to work in a group there, as an endodontist, starting pay:$1.2m a year.

Dan - Sorry about the tooth issue, that sucks! Man, that's crazy money your friend's son is going to be making! One of my very best friends in HS got his Aerospace Engineering degree from U of M and went to work immediately out of college for Boeing in Seattle. He didn't last a year out there, saying they couldn't pay him enough money to live in that gloomy, rainy, damp climate.

Norm - That sure looks tasty! Wifey is making fixins for Philly cheese steaks, but we're having them on tortillas instead of buns/sliced bread to cut down on the carbs. We have both exceeded our winter weight limits (self imposed) and are trying to get back to where we want to be. Ugh!

Aloha

Pretty day today and warmer. Supposed to be really nice this weekend. I hope so.

Norm that looks wonderful. And the name of that plate set is?

Jamesbo did I ever ask you about City Chicken Legs? My Grandmother used to have them at Christmas. She'd get them from the butcher/grocery store/someplace special and they were like a shish kabob, chunks of meat(not necessarily chicken) on skewers. I haven't had them in decades. Absolutely marvelous! My Mom says you can only get them during Christmastime, presumably because everyone forgets how to make them except that time of year. Maybe Santa holds the recipe.

Ah, Dan, just another time when I say, I'm in the wrong business!

Today's task was to hang out with Tiger. I was successful. Yesterday at the house I got all my green posts slammed in in the back yard, and one roll of garden fence was perfect. There is still probably 30 feet open, and a guy I know said he'd give me a couple gates to put in, so I can still get my truck in and out of the basement if I want to. I overthought it all day and I think I'll just get a few more posts and my other roll of garden fence and finish it off. If I need to get my truck in I can cut the zipties holding it all together and just pull the fence back. Otherwise I'd have to go get all the hinges and whatnot for the gates, as the ones that have been offered to me don't have any.

Finished dinner so I'll clean up a little bit and probably just head to bed. I slept pretty good last night but we got up a couple times. That's a double edged sword. If we go to bed early, I have extra time for sleeping, but that's extra times Tiger needs to go out. Eh, the joys of having a dog. Wouldn't trade it.

Okay. It's well after 6 and there's still plenty of light out. I like this trend.

Peace

I spent a fair amount of time fishing at Lake Of The Ozarks while working for the NPS in Arkansas - none of the Ozark Series was filmed on location in Missouri, it was filmed in Atlanta near Lake Allatoona and Lake Lanier (reason: tax incentives).
