I've been thinking about those deck boards all afternoon. I love that stuff, and if it weren't so dang expensive my whole house and yard would be deck boards! If you can't find replacement boards, can you flip it over and find a stain to match? Maybe if the boards just aren't available, you can redo the whole landing in a different, but complimentary color and have a bit of a contrast. If you're going to bring this up to the contractor guy he will probably have some ideas, all that will be cheap and save him money. At least give him the chance. He may still be reeling from the driveway.
Hm taco's sound good. But not from Taco Hell. That **** is microwaved dog food. Mom made my Grandma's vegetable soup for our supper. OMG that stuff is ambrosia. Grandma died in 1987. No telling how old the recipe is but she'd be pleased that we're enjoying it all these years later.
Norm a neighbor made real egg nog one Christmas. It was very frothy but I'm not a fan of rum, so I didn't care for it. One time I decided to make it myself, but without the rum. I found a Paula Deen recipe it was pretty good. My favorite is still any brand of store egg nog. I watched the video but couldn't hear it. Is that you?
Time for MASH, then go home. Hopefully tomorrow is an early one. He said we were working Saturday but didn't come by with the list. I'll ask him tomorrow.

Mike - Appreciate you thinking about, and brainstorming possible solutions to the deck damage. Like you, I had thought about just replacing the landing deck boards with a close or complimentary color, but that would be a fairly expensive fix. The Project Lead from the Roofing Company has been pretty decent about accepting responsibility, and trying to help, but he might balk at the cost of that option. Guess I'll cross that bridge when and if I have to.

Our Mom made homemade eggnog each holiday season - super thick, fluffy/airy & creamy - just delicious. As youngsters we used to watch Mom make it then we'd get to take the one or several pots outdoors & place them in the snow to cool down. I have her recipe and I've made it several times.
Yes, that's me in the video. I was out in the man-cave working on stuff (2012).
Norm, Unfortunately El jeep has a problem. I did a compression test last weekend. 2,3,4 cylinders 125# 1 cylinder 0
I poured some oil in spark plug hole and retested [to see if it was rings] still 0. So it must be a valve problem. I'm going to yank the valve cover and pray for a broken valve spring. If not the head comes off and I'll look for a broken valve stem or push rod
The thing is like me It has TMB problems [too many birthdays] but I love it.
Good luck on the Jeep Jim. Once I developed a miss on my Olds and drove it at highway speeds 100 miles home. When checked it out I found a valve spring had broke and valve had fallen down, just bouncing around held in by keeper. It it had let go completely it would have ate valve, piston and probably block and head. I was lucky. I should have had it taken on a roll back home. Anyway I wouldn't run it until you find out what trouble is.
Chris, Please don't get me started on $hitty workmanship. Alot of the work done on this 1896 farm house was done by people who thought I wouldn't live her for 5 years and it's been 46 years
Another thing I will NEVER do is allow family [read wife's sister's husband] to paint a car car for me,. It make it to hard to murder the MFer
Shocking. We made our number with regularity this week and our number is still 150 today. We were told it wouldn't be so high on Friday if we had a good week. Not sure what we're lacking. Integrity? Honesty? Eh, we'll probably be done by noon anyway.
I've driven home many miles with something wrong with the car plenty of times. Most recently when the transmission in the dogmobile went tango uniform. I was driving in Atlanta traffic going 60, and everyone else was doing 80. Harrowing. I will say usually I'm the one doing 80 and cursing those doing 60. Also humbling.
Jamesbo was that the Hurst Olds you had painted? Good luck with the Jeep. I need to work on the white DUKW but I have to wait until after it frosts, there are about a billion wasps living inside that guy and I need to get under the dash as well as below deck.
So now we're not working tomorrow. Not enough wheels I guess. That's okay, force me to stay up late and sleep in and do whatever I want tomorrow.
Should be a nice day. I think I'll do a little bit on a lot of things. I won't finish anything but I'll feel like I worked on a lot.
At least our dogs know sometimes you have to stop and take time to smell the roses, or in Maggie's case, eat them. I'm surprised that silly dog didn't get a thorn in her tongue!
Jim - You are welcome to show off any of my dog pics to the nice gal at the Liquor Store.
Boy that sure looks good! I love just about any kind of stuffed pork chops. I usually stuff mine with a mushroom cornbread dressing. I thought I was gonna get grilled chicken fettuccine for dinner tonight, but the plan changed when someone contacted my wife to come look at one of her table/chair sets. Now she won't have time to make it today, so we're having Gorton's Beer Battered Cod filets, Cracker Barrel white cheddar pasta, and peas. Good, but not nearly as good as her Grilled Chicken fettuccine.
The best pork chops I ever made were thick boneless chops, sides slit and stuffed with boudin, then cooked on a charcoal grill. First over the coals, then wrapped in foil and moved to the opposite side of the grill. They were falling apart tender.
Ouch, Robbie Coltrane, the Scottish actor who played the grounds keeper Rubeus Hagrid at Hogwart's School for Wizards in the Harry Potter movies died at only 72. Why ouch? I read all of the Harry Potter books to my girls as bedtime stories when they were growing up, and took them to the first 3 or 4 movies when they started being released. Full disclosure, I enjoyed the movies too, but most of all I remember the joy my kids got from the books and the movies. Robbie Coltrane as Rubeus Hagrid
My wife just sent me my grandson Gabe's 4th Grade picture she pulled off of Facebook. His picture kinda floored me because it's the first picture of him where I see him as starting to become a young man. I think he's gonna be fighting off the ladies when he gets a little older!
All the talk about Mike's water heater got me excited [sic]. I bought/installed the water heater (Whirlpool 55 gal. Energy Smart Residential Water Heater) I believe 2006. I've wanted to re-route the hot/cold water heater inlet/outlet piping for some time so I'll get that done today. I replaced all the old metal piping in the home ~10 years ago w/ PEX. I'm also going to remove the POS/PITA OEM plastic drain pipe/valve & install a proper drain pipe/valve having been inspired by Kenneth's R&R of the drain pipe/valve. This will be the third R&R for the anode. The fun around here is never ending. I'll most likely get all this done and the water heater will go Tango Uniform next year....
R&R Al anode 01/22/2014 (prior to Culligan Water Softener installation) - Drain/Flush
R&R Mg anode 01/2/2018 (Mg supposed to be used w/ soft water systems) - Drain Flush
R&R Mg anode 10/15/2022 - Drain/Flush
You take great care of your place for sure Norm. Oh it has really gotten cold here and leaves all over. We took neighbor's 22' pontoon out of lake and put in my barn. (not too happy about that- a long story) So I have to fit 2 pontoons, the cutlass, the f100, the tractor and a 8 1/2 X 15 snowmobile trailer in barn, along with 2 quads, lawn tractor and a small utility trailer and of course all the small stuff. It will be packed, it always is in the winter.
Jim, got the generator all up and running. My neighbor who is much more computer/personal device savvy than I, got it set up with the wifi and it runs, transfers, etc. This was done back in Sept, then I was away so just yesterday I went on the generac site and saw I needed to complete setup. It would not let me complete it. It said generator needed service and would not work. I called and was put on hold and then elected to have them call me which she did. Good thing I called, as we, in the process of attempting to register with my lap top (me) and my phone( neighbor) had started to register 2 generators! One serial # ending in 302 and one ending in 303! (fat finger error) so she got that fixed and I told her about my hot spot that isn't on all the time and she recommended not using the wifi. So I guess I am all set now- what a hassle!!!
Greg - Thanks. Trying to maintain my "stuff". Glad the generator is working & registered properly. Regarding use of the "hotspot". I believe what the lady meant to say (or you) is not to use the "hotspot" - since it's highly dependent on line-of-sight WiFi employing your phone. Don't use the "hotspot" for the generator. It's OK to use WiFi as long as it's a dedicated WiFi signal such as the WiFi signal from a cable modem.
Do you fill the barn, narrowly escape through the door, shut & lock it for the winter? You have it stuffed for sure. Nice to have the storage space though.
Unfortunately your neighbor thinks highly of your storage space, as well. 😫
Stage One complete...the new anode is shorter than the previous anode. Price was similar...guess they decided to shorten its length rather than to raise the price? Buggers.
I've seen worse anodes than the one I just removed.

Interesting
I did not know the function until I looked it up on Dr. You Tube
Norm, I had the opposite experience with a new anode rod. It was longer than the original so I had to cut around 8" off the bottom. Haven't needed to install it yet, it's on standby for when that time arrives.
Glad I ventured onto the WWW to look at a couple videos. Supposedly, this can be done, and not surprising it appears these plastic POS drain valves are the worst - mostly because they're the cheapest low quality type drain valves most manufacturers use on new water heaters. Well, I really don't want to bust it up (makes for a bad day honestly). I need to go back & re-evaluate my plan of attack.
Jim - Hopefully your friend has an extra new valve spring. If not, I'd find it surprising you can't find a replacement of the same size somewhere on-line. I didn't realize you replaced the gas tank. I recall the last time we spoke you were asking about cleaning the one which came in the M 38 A 1. Sure is nicer to have a brand spanking new tank.
That's what happened to my Olds 350. They were original 1971 so I replaced all 16 and MAW replace cam, lifters, and valve job, hardened seats bla bla on and on. No If it was just rebuilt I would just replace the one also.
What a beautiful day and I got lots done. First up was Awful house. Saw some guys I hadn't seen in a while.
Got a battery for the pickup. Installed it and it started right up. Ran a check of the charging system and everything is good. Also fixed the wiper squirters while I had the battery out.
Next up I vacuumed out the dogmobile. It is ready to go to the mechanic. With the pickup fixed I can tow it over and not have to worry about a ride home.
Then I wanted to mow, but got only a couple swipes done and ran out of gas. I decided that was enough. But I count the day as a success.
Norm I have never replaced the anode on a water heater. The one in my house is only 4 years old, but the one in Mom's house is 17 years old. What do they do anyway? We never replaced an anode in the house up home, in 26 years, and in Mom's place she lived in after she moved back from Florida(the first time) the plumber just took them out and didn't replace them.
Tomorrow I won't have a lot of time to do stuff because we have to go to Walmart. I think I will have Mom over to clean. She keeps asking me to do that and I don't see a lot of point in it, but she goes over there and picks up a couple dog hair tumbleweeds and loads the dishwasher, and that makes her happy. So maybe I can putter around while she does that and get something done.
Okay time for dinner. Meatloaf. Can't beat that. Have a good evening everyone.
Jim - Hope you're able to find a valve spring for the Jeep soon.
Norm - That POS drain valve sounds like a real PITA, good luck!
Mike - Glad you got your truck going and are now gonna have a way to get the dogmobile to the shop!
Not too much happening around here today, other than my wife making progress on the cosmetic refresh on the bathrooms. I didn't know she was getting all new faucets and fixtures too, the budget has increased significantly with the addition of those. Just smiled and said those are really nice honey!
I did get out my compressor and added air to all the vehicles because the pressure has went down due to the much cooler temps. Loaded up the 4-4-2 for a show I'm going to tomorrow morning that's about 20-miles away. Still waiting to hear from one of my buddies whether he's going to come or not. Only 1 judged show and 2 cruise-ins left after tomorrow, the season is almost over.
