I'm thinking on going to the Mac mini 2023 version or the 2024 version for a new desk top computer. Anyone using it, any complaints?

 

I have a mac mini and have had it for two years. As long as as you keep the software up to date, you will have no issues. But I am biased toward mac anyway. The best for graphic software.

 

Mine has been great, over 4 years now. As mentioned, just keep the software up to date.

 

I’ve been using an M3 Max (Utra?) MacBook Pro for about a year or so. Fantastic machine. I high optioned it and it’s great.

Apple chips are so powerful that they run windows 11 faster in emulation than my 2018 MacBook Pro ran Windows natively in dual boot mode. Not that I use Windows much these days (retired).

As a Mac, for video editing, music handling, excel, email and all the other usual tasks, the Apple silicon machines are great.

Get as much RAM and storage as you can. It’s not really replaceable so ya gotta commit at purchase time.

I learned something interesting the other day. For years Apple has been rightly getting cr*p for overcharging for storage. Their storage premium is just ugly/greedy.

Except - it turns out they marry the storage to the CPU or motherboard as part of their security arrangements which should protect users against attacks. Now that lots of us are doing banking, healthcare, private communication and so on in our computers, this is probably a good thing. Still doesn't quite justify the “Apple storage tax”, but nice to think they’re hardening their hardware and software.

I can also confirm that the MacOS Sequoia has some great new features like phone mirroring (run your phone from your Mac) and is on the stable end of OS releases. At least for me.

Debating upgrading my M1 mini same as you. Leaning toward doing it, but haven’t pulled the trigger…

I gave up on Windows PC back around the time Windows 8 was released. I just got tired of them turning out a new Windows OS version every couple years and forcing you to buy the new OS. I bought my first MacBook Pro when they started using Intel processors. Had it for about ten years, upgrading the OS at no charge until it could not be upgraded any more. I then bought the current MacBook Pro, also an Intel machine, and hope to get another ten years on it! I don't miss Windows.

 

The trick is to leapfrog OS's with Windows. ME, Vista, 8, and 9 are junk. Once they integrated 9x and NT into XP, it's been about every other one is good.

 

Just an update. The wife and I love the Mac 4 mini, currently using the old Dell asci II keyboard, mouse, and monitor through a hub adapter. I also bought a M2 powered Macbook, I hate it, the touch pad sucks and I've tried almost every adjustment possible, so it's going back. Since my Win10 HP laptop still works fine, I'm going to wait a bit to replace it.
