My mom taught me how to cook. Before I got married (42 years) I would cook a meal dates at my apartment. It was a very successful experience in more ways then one. Still share the cooking chores with my wife but mostly now is just do the grill. Would rather cook a meal then take out or fast food. Two of my boys are good cooks the youngest burns water.

No cookbooks though, so that is why it has no interest to me and not soo much for my sister. My mom loves to cook, so she still shares with us.

I use the oven as a big parts dryer and sometimes I forget they are still in there when preheating for a frozen pizza or such...

Wolfman - send some lobster down here to TX - I am craving it big time. I had fresh boiled lobs every day when I was in Maine, some for the price of a whopper combo meal...

You already have those pecan cookies named after you Sandy.

"Get yourself a Hondog".

Yes, the crawcrab...He peenched me and made me spill my hot coffee in Redgoat's lap.
Now he's going to find a Doberman to peench.

Henny Redgoat is appearing at Honeymoon Haven in the the Poconos this Saturday evening, two shows, tickets still available.

Remember "Peencherello" AKA "Peench? on that TV show Chips???

This gives me an idea for another film.....

"The Attack of the Killer Creverand Crawcrabs!!!"

"Bigger than a Dobie and smarter than Rassie".

Find grandpa Crawcrab!!!

Rob this one's for you

Lobster Pot Pie
1 1/2 cups chopped yellow onion (1 large onion)
1/4 pound unsalted butter
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 1/2 cups fish stock or clam juice
1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
3/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
3 tablespoons heavy cream
3/4 pound cooked fresh lobster meat
1 1/2 cups frozen peas (not "baby" peas)
1 1/2 cups frozen small whole onions
1/2 cup minced flat-leaf parsley Pastry:

You can buy a pie crust or make one. It's up to you. Also you can subsitute Lobster bisque for the clam juice/ flour/ fishstock.

Pie Crust

3 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
8 tablespoons cold fresh lard, diced (1/4 pound)
8 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, diced
1/2 to 2/3 cup ice water
1 egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water or heavy cream, for egg wash
Saute the onions with the butter in a large saute pan on medium heat until the onions are clear, 10 to 15 minutes. Add the flour and cook on low heat for 3 more minutes, stirring occasionally. Slowly add the stock, salt, and pepper and simmer for 5 more minutes. Add the heavy cream.
Cut the lobster meat into medium-sized chunks Place the lobster, frozen peas, frozen onions, and parsley in a bowl (there is no need to defrost the vegetables). Pour the sauce over the mixture and check the seasonings.
For the crust, mix the flour, salt, and baking powder in a food processor fitted with a metal blade. Add the lard and butter and pulse 10 times, until the fat is the size of peas. With the motor running, add the ice water; process only enough to moisten the dough and have it just come together. Dump the dough out on a floured surface and knead quickly into a ball. Wrap the dough in plastic and allow it to rest for 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Divide the dough in half and roll out each half to fit a 9 or 9 1/2-inch round by 2-inch high ovenproof glass or ceramic baking dish. Place 1 crust in the dish, fill with the lobster mixture, and top with the second crust. Crimp the crusts together and brush with the egg wash. Make 4 or 5 slashes in the top crust and bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling hot.
This is yummy but rich.

What do you refer to someone that has been married or going to get married? Give up?
"Tierd of being happy !"

My dad said that 42 years ago.
And yes my parents are still married!

Most every grocery store around here has a tank of the them crawling around. I remember my dad telling me about when he was young and the family did not have a lot of money to spend on groceries they had to eat lobster a lot. back in those days they considered lobster and crab as bottom feeders and were really cheap. dad even used to go out and dig clams and cohaugs to help out. Terrible thing having to eat all that shellfish

Close jamesbo , they are about the size of an oyster except the shell is 3 to 4 times as thick. If you steam clams or mussels the shell will open up after a few minutes but these tough buggers you will still have to pry open. they are worth it though. The proper name for it is Crossostrea virginica and is also known as the eastern oyster.Cultered oysters don't build up the really thick shells that these wild cousins do.

Crawclamhog.

Do you ever watch "Family Guy" on TV Sandy??

Quahog is the city and the bar is The Drunken Clam.

Same deal but I think they spell it "quahog" or "quahaug" around the New England states.

I think you are right ..that is spelled quahaug but pronounced co-hog.
I think it may be from dutch or german. On the south shore they have a lot of dutch and the area is known for it's 'south shore dutchmen'.

My understanding is that when many Germans imigrated to this country, some people mistook Deutche for Dutch. Thus the ongoing confusion.

You are right on there jamebo , the south shore has more german than dutch but the term deutchland led directly to 'south shore dutchmen'. my ancestors were German , hence my last name Wolfe , and in Liverpool where i was born there are more names that start with W than any other. Wentzell's Wamboldt's whynott's Wolfe's etc. They call themselves south shore deutchmen but those who don't know that's german call them south shore dutchman.

another recipe

Jose Cuervo Christmas Cookies

1 cup of water
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup of sugar
1 tsp salt
1 cup or brown sugar
4 large eggs
1 cup nuts
2 cups of dried fruit
1 bottle Jose Cuervo Tequila

Sample the Cuervo to check quality. Take a large bowl,
check the Cuervo again, to be sure it is of the highest quality,
pour one level cup and drink.

Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter
in a large fluffy bowl.

Add one peastoon of sugar. Beat again. At this point
it's best to make sure the Cuervo is still ok, try another
cup just in case.

Turn off the mixerer thingy.

Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup
of dried fruit.

Pick the frigging fruit off the floor.

Mix on the turner.

If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaters just pry
it loose with a drewscriver.

Sample the Cuervo to check for tonsisticity.

Next, sift two cups of salt, or something. Who geeves
a sheet. Check the Jose Cuervo. Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts.

Add one table.

Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can
find.

Greash the oven.

Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall
over.

Don't forget to beat off the turner.

Finally, throw the bowl through the window, finish the
Cose Juervo and make sure to put the stove in the wishdasher.

Cherry Mistmas !

Mens Final

Both are excellent, no bout adout it.

Martin: weak on inturn draws lately and somewhat erratic on reading ice. Big weight and knowing the angles has always been one of his strengths. Ben, Johnny Mo and Marc are so cool under pressure and such great curlers - these guys working together are incredibly good and they curl as a team. Noticed that in really tough competition Martin seems to let the pressure get to him. We see him regularly at the Saville where I curl out of now and he's a really nice guy. Watching him and "the boys" practice in person is so cool; they're such great role models. I really like the old bear and his rink and wish him the best.

Howard: all round excellent numbers through RR and finals. Has his hitting and draw weight down pat. Seems to be able to read the ice a little faster than Martin, and that could be the major difference. Plays a solid strategy game and is cool under pressure. Front end can match any in the world. Only weakness I can think of is letting the team make the skps decision at times. Seems somewhat indecisive of some tight calls. Too much time with brother Russ...??? All round though? I think Howard is grossly underrated. He stays calm, has great control over his team, his shots and speaks well of the sport and any competitors. In my eye he is the "true gentleman" of curling. I really like his style and class. Ontario and CANADA have everything to gain with an entry by Howard.

My call for today's final? HOWARD by 2 (Heck I'll predict the final score: 7-5) It will be his to lose; if you know what I mean. I expect a tight and exciting game with lots of key shots that will amaze the audience. If it turns out to be Martin, CANADA still is putting world class curlers into 2010.

TEAM CANADA -- I BELIEVE!!!!

HOCKEY, HOCKEY, HOCKEY! For me that's all that matters. If we win gold in other sports...bonus. But for me, it's hockey gold or nothin'. Sorry, it's all that matters to me in winter sport. Hell, my ancestors never held winter Olympics.
