First time for this Canadian, Eh
Since this is the first time for me to come into the US, one question I have. I will be coming down the I29 or the 81, haven't figured which way yet.How are those highways, speed limit, fuel station's, any thing to be aware of? I am going to try to make it to Wichita the by the first night
Wear clothing that is easily removed, and loosen all fasteners and panels on your car, as you will be strip searched at the border, and your vehicle disassembled, in a search for Al Queda operatives and fine BC weed, while thousands of people a day are allowed to walk in across the southern border with whatever they can carry.
Also be advised that the Border Patrol can stop you anywhere within 100 miles of the border and search you as though you were at the border.
Oh, and Welcome to the US, the Land of the Free!

Oh you didn't read my other post?
Supposed to go to ND, pick up a car for someone, take it to DFW,pick up some parts I need, and then go to Denver to pick up a trough machine.

, their is better out there
I am coming down in my company truck with trailer, so hope they don't bother me to much. Although with my beard and long hair I will probably be a target for them. Al Queda, I not going to say a word!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Want a case of good old beer from here?
Well, thanks anyway, but we're close enough to Canada up here that it's easy to get. Bet some of those good ol' boys down in Dallas would like some, though!
Just be sure to bring it in 55 gallon drums - Everything's BIG in Texas!
Funny border story:
Some years ago (alright, 20), I was helping a Canadian friend move back up to Montreal. We stopped at Customs at about 02:00 in the morning with a big, beat-up U-Haul truck (the discount $20-a-day one), packed with stuff, including a motorcycle. We went into the office, she gave them her list of declared items, they looked at it, said, "Welcome back, eh!" or words to that effect, and that was it. They never even came outside and looked at the truck.
On my way back, the truck was empty, except for a case of Molson I'd bought. I stopped at US customs. They asked what was in the truck. I told them, "One case of Molson." They had me open the truck, went inside, loked at the case walked all around the truck and looked at it, scrutinized my (US) rental paperwork, and finally let me go as though they were doing me a favor by not arresting me. Bloody Yanks.

Yeah, Maine's got a lot of people who go back to the original French settlers, as well as more recent immigrants from Quebec (in the 1800s), and English settlers from the Massachusetts Bay area. My town was settled in about 1640 by the English. There are plenty of native French speakers here, and tons of Quebequois tourists in the summer, which makes the dual English / Spanish signs in all the chain stores particularly galling.

Happy to have you visit the USA. Remember, however, that U.S. border agents have recently had additional training in airport type TSA groin searches!

If you're wearing free-hangers I would advise y'all to get some briefs about 2 sizes too small. Just stop at the Duty Free store near the border and change your underwear. The tight briefs will hamper the agents from grabbing your goods individually as they're prone to do!

I do this as a service to all friendly immigrants coming for a visit! As the U.S. Immigration Agent will say, after your groping, "Enjoy your stay in the United States!"

I took my boys to the US (Seattle Nationals) and after we crossed the border they were looking all around. My youngest said "Dad, are we in the USA?" I said yes. He thought for a moment looking around and said " But it looks just like home, it doesn't look like it does on TV."
I suppose he thought he would see a country night and day to our own. I should have taken him to India with me.
I am 3 hours NW of Winterpeg. My childhood was sheltered lot, the old man never went any where. We used to live in Thompson, 850km north of Winnipeg. Another 800 and we could go see the polar bears. Winters so cold, motor oil doesn't come out of the jug.I think the only difference from here to there is the cities, other wise same s%#t different pile
Hey, Kyle-- I'm only 2800 km south of y'all, and I see black bears-- all summer long!
Our motor awl (oil) flows all year, and... we have bear s%#t in the road all summer!

What time of year did you go to Churchill? You see the whales as well? One day I will go, I have 2 boy's going to school, that is their grade 6 field trip. Bound to go one day
The next day they flew us up to Churchill. We spent about 6 days there. Saw lots of bears mostly in the garbage dumps! Stayed in an older hotel that was clean.
It was a once in a lifetime trip. Didn't see any whales. We went with an older man and his daughter. He was a polar bear expert. I think it was his 5th trip to Churchill!
Then, they flew us back to Winnipeg And we flew back home. A VERY expensive tour. I think we paid about $7000 for the trip.
It would not be to expensive for you. I think you could drive there...

We did a Churchill Tour about 15 years ago. We went in October. We flew from Tampa to Winnipeg and spent a night at the Ft. Gary hotel. Very elegant. The tour operator had a nice welcome at the hotel, as I recall.

if I'm paying $7000 for a trip it will have beach and palm trees and some ancient stuff kicking around. When I worked for Canada's passenger railway (Via Rail) there were trains that went to Churchill just so people could check out the polar bears.
