First Date car !!

My first date car was my first car - my '68 Cutlass S. Working at Crystal's Pizza, I had not yet saved up to do any real work to the car, so at the time of my first date (with my first wife) it was still as my parents had bought it for me. 350, 2BBL bench seat, anti-spin (!), and factory AM/FM (!). Still Gold Jade with white painted top. I don't have any Before pictures, just a couple primer'ed "in progress," then the After in Black. Painted in my folks' garage. Along the way it got a 4-BBL carb and intake, headers and Cherry Bombs, bucket seats (from a Buick at Western Auto Salvage on Leetsdale Dr), and BIG L-50 tires with Gabriel Hi-Jackers. Ultimately it was raised in the front, leveled in the rear with Multi-Mile GR60U14 tires on AR CP200 "coke bottle" 14X10 wheels from the local Super Shops outlet on Colfax.

As Luck would have it my first date was in an Olds. 1973 cutlass S. I bought it in 1980 from all people my grandmother. I put 4:10 gears in it with a little motor work to that rocket 350 and it was the car to beat at my high school. It was no longer gandma’s car. It would burn those L60’s. When she saw what I did to the car she just laughed.

My friend asked me if I'd take out his niece who was visiting from Florida. I was a little hesitant as my friend was a big, kind of sloppy guy. Turned out she was real nice. Her dad was a performance car guy and she was pretty adept at driving them. We went to a concert in my '70 LS6 M22 Chevelle. She drove it back from the concert and was more talented at spirited running through the gears than I was. I still have the car, lost track of her.

Now don't laugh, my first date car was a 1949 Studebaker Champion 4 door(rear doors were suicide), i got mad at it and made it into a 49 studebaker champion flatbed pickup. had a nash 1bbl carb on the L head 6 that hooked up backwards to the stude carb, so used a wire to pull up on the gas pedal to go and released to slow down, could do some pretty good squacks, 1st to 2nd gear. had a lot of fun with old clunker.

Mine was a 74 Dodge Dart Swinger - triple (Sherwood) green w/rally wheels and factory am/fm, back in early 80's - at the time a neighbor had a triple green '68 Charger 318 I had wanted to buy but they didn't want to sell to any neighborhood kids that they'd have to hear about after the fact.... ah, still,
that Dart served well....

I bought my 66 4-4-2 convertible at age 15 before I could drive after saving money sacking groceries for a couple of years, but my first non-chaperoned date was in my girlfriend's car. She was 4 weeks older than me, so our first date was in her... wait for it... 74 AMC Hornet Hatchback. I may have lost my virginity under that big back window, and I am not proud of that.
As soon as I had my license, we took my 4-4-2 everywhere. I even had to change my starter in front of her house in six inches of snow after it shorted out on my headers.
I met my wife in college after I had sold my 4-4-2, and my first date with her was in my 84 Jeep Grand Wagoneer, black with fake woodgrain and black vinyl top. Nothing but the best for my wife.
