First Date car !!

What was your first date car ? this may or may not be your first car, let me splain Lucy . My first date car was not my first car, my first car was a 1963 Chevy Biscayne 2 door sedan/post mint green repaint that looked like it was painted with a broom, 6 cyl no carpet vinyl floor, dog dish hub caps would have made a great sleeper build some day BUT NOT A GOOD FIRST DATE CAR ( it was a good A to B transportation car ) so being a little embarrassed by my humble wheels and wanting to impress my future bride I borrowed my parents 69 Pontiac Catalina Convert, not with out great sacrifice on my part it cost me a wax job ( in the paste wax days) it must have worked I reeled her in !! 5 years of dating 44 years of marriage.
I did take her on the second date in the Biscayne after I cleaned out the Big Mac and Red Barn Barn Buster wrappers out of it.
so lets hear about the first date car.

It was a 1958 Catalina Tri-Power Convertible. White with green top and green interior. Weren't bench seats great for sitting next to each other? That's missing today.

Mine was my dad's '66 F-85 deluxe, red with red interior, bench seat, auto on the column, 330-4bbl, chrome reverse wheels with spinners (dad really liked those spinners!). My brother and I had just finished installing a fader and rear speaker so we could get that great quality AM radio sound both front and back. I was on top of the world!

In my case it was. 1970 Cutlass Supreme, 350-4bbl, dual exhaust, TH350, bucket seats, console with Hurst Dual Gate shifter, 2.56 Anti-Spin rear, and of course, AC. How can you go out on dates in a car with no AC if you live on the Gulf Coast?

My high school car. It was a 74 442 with buckets and console shift. My girl friend at that time sat on the console wherever we went.
The BEST one was my 73 Buick Centurion. It had the best back seat. I have been married to the girlfriend I carried around in that one
for over 38 years now. I don't even remember what happened to that car.

I've got you all beat, mine was a 1929 Ford Model A Coupe. I was a Sophmore and just had to have a Model A so that was my first car and first experience with dating.

My first date car was my 1940 Ford 2 door sedan with a 56 Chevy 265 in it. I remember going to the drive-in once and it wouldn't start but this is a story for another time. My first date with my wife of 54 years was in my Roman Red 60 Chevy convertible. She was 17 and I was 18. She really liked that car.

A '56 Chevy 4-door sedan with the 265 2-barrel. It was a Tennessee-bodied 210. The organ donor was a rusted out Bel-Air I was driving previous. The Tennessee replacement was only the body and frame, since the previous owner sold off the front clip and drivetrain

'64 Chevy Impala 409/400 hp/M-20. Black bucket interior did not encourage foolin' around.

Jim that 66 deuce and a quarter was a very nice car. I was working for a Buick dealer in 66 until I went in the USAF. That Wildcat was a very nice car also Norm. GM was building some really good stuff back then. If I wasn't an Olds guy I would be a Buick guy. My favorite was the 65 Riviera Gran Sport.

There was a small window after H.S. when I worked in auto sales for a Buick, Honda, Lincoln-Mercury, Winnebago dealership - I went to H.S. w/ the children of the family who owned the dealership. The 65 Riviera Gran Sport was a gorgeous car. My Dad was strictly a Buick man - '59 Buick Invicta Wagon, '61 LeSabre, '64 Wildcat, '67 Electra 225, '72 Electra 225, I don't recall what he had after that. That 65 Riviera Gran Sport always reminded me of a P-51 Mustang - maybe from the general overall appearance with the pointy front-end.

1966 blue Malibu two door. My families old car. Would not run, so my dad give her to me in 1974. 250ci straight 6, first time I fix anything on a car. Rebuilt the one-barrel carb. Carb kits back then had almost every thing in them. Run like a top after. There was so much room the engine bay, I could seat in it. Roomy back seat. Living with my girl from 1974 today. By 1980, rusted out by all the salt on roads in upstate NY. rear window rust out and leak like crazy. Two speed transmission only had first gear. RIP. Looked just like this one.

65 Riviera Gran Sport. Loved that car. First one I can remember with the rare, heater automatic temperature control. And hidden lights. Best looking American car for the mid 1960's.

Back in the day, we could get our license at the ripe old age of 14. I think it was via a hardship application. So this would have been circa 1967. My mother's red 1963 Ford Galaxy...Looked like this. Fun car.

.

.

My 1st date with a new girl friend was in one of these. My Mom had a '65 Lincoln (maroon) for a short time. I reckon I don't have to 'splain the playground this sucker provided....

.

.

I remember pulling up to a gas station and buying 5 gallons of gas. Give them a dollar bill and get change back.

Not the coolest most macho first date car, but I learned to appreciate all it had to offer.

The real "70's show" but in a Buick. Many a triple date and drive-ins in that car.

Wow! Congratulations on 52 years of marriage. I'm at half that. Still going strong. And a very nice car as well.

Thanks very much. Being married 52 years takes a lot of work. Had a son and daughter and we just had our fourth grandchild. I am 77 so I have to stretch it out a bit more hopefully. Got another 66 Cutlass 4 speed convertible.

Thanks

Wayne

My first date with my wife was in my 72 cutlass. About 5 minutes into the date a young man with a honda assumed his car was faster than mine. He assumed wrong. I looked over at my wife and said hold on and she gave me a little smile. It was a great date!

Great thread. 👍

Although it wasn't my first car my first date I am pretty sure was in my 69 Cutlass. Clean car. White car Blue top and pin stripes. Blue bucket seat interior. 350 4 barrel. I was in love with the lady that sold it to me ha ha. I was 16 she was 32. I actually asked her out ha ha. That didn't happen.

Now if you asked about cars that I took first dates out in I would have a cool list. Good memories.

Reolds... I have a friend that I have known since pre-school. His parents went on their first date in a black 40 Ford opera coupe. He bought and restored an identical car. Every single nut and bolt he touched. He has owned that car for over forty years. It's beautiful. He also has two 49 F-1's that are restored.
