Enlarged Heart

I will keep it as short as I can. My girls' daughter called Tuesday complaining of a heavy chest and short breath. I said you need to get to the hospital asap. She couldn't even walk out of her apartment. Ambulance came and took her in. It's now Friday and things are not fully diagnosed. They have diagnosed it as an enlarged heart which really means many things. In and of intensive care etc. Now talking about a transfer to a hospital here in Denver that specializes in heart conditions. She is only thirty. Doesn't drink smoke drugs etc. We are trying to keep our heads calm. Anyone have any experiences?

An enlarged heart is a symptom that can be caused by quite a few other things, they are trying to find the cause. Hopefully you'll hear something definitive soon. Mine was due to a heart attack caused by blockages.

From what I have read an enlarged heart really means so many other things. Could be heart valve could be this and that. Grateful for doctors knowing what they do.

She is super healthy. Eats well. No smoke of any kind. Doesn't really drink. No history of this in her family. Life is no joke. You Have to appreciate your every single day. Every minute really.

Thanks for the thoughts and input. 👍

Ugh it has been a rough week. My girl got home at 3:40am the other night. I am encouraged that her daughter is stable enough to move her to a hospital that specializes in heart issues. I just feel for her and my girl. 🙏

So sorry to hear and praying for a good outcome. I'm no doctor but i had a heart attack last year and was fortunate i had it in the ER. They put in some stints and i'm good to go. Let's hope and pray today's technology can correct whatever caused this and get them back to normal. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

A lot of things can contribute or cause an enlarged heart and I won't try and play doctor...given her age and abstaining from nicotine/drugs/alcohol, it could be something relatively minor and even something that she was born that had never been detected until now. My prayers and best wishes for you all.

Thank you to everyone for their positive thoughts prayers etc. They are still diagnosing things. Today they catheterized her heart. Basically that means they put a scope into her heart so they could evaluate her heart to see what meds etc she needed. They started a couple new meds and seems to have helped. Still a battle but this is the first time we have seen improvement in her pain etc.

I agree about the possibility that maybe she has had this her entire life and it has not been noticed/diagnosed before. I am glad that I pushed for her to go in. My girl already lost one son. Didn't need to lose another child this young.

Thanks again for everyone's support. 🙏
