That looks like something from American Pickers.
If any of you Texans are interested, I have two sets of 1968 Texas Hemisphere plates, one mint set of 1949 and one set of mint 1950 Texas plates. Coincidentally I also have a fair set of 1956 Texas truck plates. I haven't tried to sell them but certainly would.

In '43 and '44 the base '42 plates were retained and you were issued a small update tag you added to your '42 plate.

I can remember back in the 60's Texas would alternate the license plates every year. One year they were black lettering on white plates and the next year it would be white lettering on black plates. I guess it made it easy for law enforcement to spot expired plates.

Really cool find, I still have two tags from my first rental house that I found buried in insulation in the attic, one Texas '50 and one '54. I collect license plates and display them in my shop area. I restored the '50 and have it up as a reminder from a much different time in lives of my wife and I. One of my good Olds friends asked me to give it to him because he was born on the year of the tag, and the number is the same as his last four SS digits.... Although I wanted to give it to him, it is a snapshot from a very less prosperous yet happy moment of our lives and I remember that time every time I see it.
