Car/Truck Show in Mascoutah, IL on Saturday 27 May

Hi guys,

Took my car to a really nice car and truck show yesterday that was held at a Sportsman's Club in Mascoutah, IL. Mascoutah is about 30-miles east of St. Louis, but about 60-miles one way for me. The weather was perfect, the setting was beautiful, and the food was great.

Format for the show was Top 50 of any year/make/model, with special awards for Best of Show, Best Engine, Best Paint, and Best Interior. The organizer said there were 358 entries. Best of Show went to my favorite car of all time, a 1970 Plymouth Superbird, which was a real joy for me to see! I was fortunate to crack the Top 50 and they gave out really nice plaques.

There will be 2 posts of 20 pics each, so if the Moderator will please combine them I would really appreciate it. Hope everyone enjoys the pics.

Best of Show, '70 Plymouth Superbird

Interesting assemblage. That Studebaker is nuts.

Very cool. Looks like a beautiful day, some nice cars. I think maybe the Mustangs are my favorites although that Chevy 396 is right up there. Thanks for sharing.

Norm - That Studebaker custom was incredibly well done, a ****-ton of incredible fabrication work went into that baby!

Ya, there were some very nice cars there. Nothing tops that Superbird for me, but the Chevelle 396 Vert was very, very nice!

If it ran the whole tour, it drives solidly, too. The Power Tour is no joke.

John - Are you commenting about the white Cutlass Vert? I know the guy that owns it pretty well, he shows up at many of the same events I go to. He's had it in multiple Power Tours, coast-to-coast and has the documentation to back it up. Nice guy and fun to talk with.

I meant the custom studebaker, but I saw the stickers on the cutlass.

I took my dad and Monte Carlo on it in 18. Car did fine, but ran a little hot and eventually the water pump died in 2020. I've got that 95% sorted now, one leak to fix.

I merged your 2 threads into one, you can just make consecutive posts in the same thread for additional pictures. Very nice cars, thanks for posting.

Thank you as always for the effort posting the pictures that you do. I am so in agreeance with the work into that Stude. Metal workers are gifted. This is an Oldsmobile website so I can say this. You couldn't give me any year any color putzstang. I cannot stand any of them. Seen one seen a thousand. So many nice rides in this post. Not sure I could pick one favorite. One thing about the Superbird to me is the vinyl top. Nascar ready and a vinyl top. How cool is that?

You're very welcome, my pleasure and glad you enjoyed them! That Superbird was a weird bird, pun intended! Automatic on the column and bench seat, but all the documentation was there to prove it was the real deal. Guess I shouldn't be too surprised though since I've had to argue until I'm blue in the face a few times that my car is a real 4-4-2 with a column shift TH400.

So many Mopars and others for that matter were optioned so odd. When I was a kid in the seventies we delivered 2500 newspapers daily in this retirement community out here. So so many cool cars. One car I will never forget was a 68 Roadrunner. Factory 426 Hemi car. It was white. Green flowered mod top and matching interior. Column shift bench seat car. Old lady matched it perfectly. I had a friend who's brother worked at the local Dodge dealership as a mechanic. The old lady traded the car in for a six cylinder Duster. He paid 250 dollars for the car. Pulled the drivetrain for his 70 Charger. Crushed the car. It was so straight. Never in an accident and always garaged. Crushed it!! That car had to have been one of one.

Oh my gosh I have so many. Should have seen all the cool cars in that place. Being the last of seven and born in the sixties. My Mom's Dad was a Chrysler man. 54 Crown Imperial. Hemi car. 62 300 with a 413. 70 300 with a 440. Our house was loaded always.

This 68 Chevelle was a bench seat three on the tree car. Came from the retirement community too. Windsor Gardens.

This is one of my favorite pictures from in front of our house. What you don't see on the side of our house was my 69 GTO. A 69 SS 396 El Camino. Two Corvairs 65 and a 66 Corsa. An all white 71 Cutlass Supreme. No top. White interior. Neighbor's hated us ha ha. 440 New Yorker. 70 W-31. 68 bench seat four speed GTO. A2 69 440 6 bbl Roadrunner. 54 Crown Imperial. Our cousins lived two doors down. 69 GTO Judge. Gold car. 55 Buick Century. 52 Chevy truck.
