arrow heads /Artifacts

Found these two artifacts last summer with My step son,on my Dad's farm. The red one is Jasper possibly heat treated. probably came from around State College, about 70-90 mile away from were we found it.It's probably a knife. The gray is a point, probably a chert I never saw it that color before hard to tell where it came from.A couple of my friends might know when I see them I'll ask.

My Dad used to find all kinds of arrow heads back in the day, Southeast Ohio is full of them.

Those are pretty cool. It's interesting to think about what went on on any particular plot of land hundreds of years ago...

Those are way cool! I found this one while I was Antelope hunting in Wyoming in the Red Desert Basin. How do you find out more about these things???

Thanks for sharing the pictures! Part of my job in Forestry is as a cultural tech, so at times my job has me looking for evidence of historic or pre-historic activities. When I was a kid arrowhead collecting was a common hobby. But times have changed, and collecting on public lands (Forest Service, National Parks, BLM, etc) is against the law. I'm glad you made the comment that these came off your Dad's farm. But anybody interested in this topic should also check your local laws.

A couple years ago a local history buff was doing research on old cabin sites. When he'd locate one on private land, he approach the owners and request permission to look for the old outhouse location. Then he'd dig it up looking for old bottles, and often found some pretty cool stuff. The local newspaper did an article describing some of the things he'd found. Shortly after that the newspaper did a story stating that it was against State law to dig up any historical site unless an Archeologist was present. So, this is an interesting post but please know Federal as well as your local laws. I don't want any of my Oldsmobile brethern winding up in hot water John

Not to sure, but I can tell you what you have is probably a knife.Because of one side being straight and one being curved. It would have been attached to a short stick or antler. And is made of flint.

Thanks for the input guys! I wondered why it was curved on one side. I couldnt imagine it would fly well as an arrowhead. It has quite a curve to it as you look at it sideways too....Shooting around corners? Knife makes much more sense. Thanks again!

A lot of the stuff you see is pieces and broken stuff. The stone bead with the string through it "I added the string"is the nicest thing I have. Also the small thin drill and the brown triangle point That's made of Bald Eagle Jasper.
