07 cobalt won't start

my son's Cobalt wont start it doesn't even turn over it's like a relay or something isn't working. I can hear a click under the hood and and back at the gas tank but not all the time just once in awhile I guess the clique back at the gas tank is the fuel pump the dome light is on and when I turn the key the dome light doesn't go dim so something is telling the starter not to work. they were hooking up a stereo so I think that has something to do with it. he said it started out it would do it once in awhile but then it would eventually work now it doesn't work at all. Any ideas?
also I noticed that on the dash it said power steering if so something was wrong with the power steering could that keep the engine from starting? l towe'd it about a mile could that be why it says power steering ? it doesn't have hydraulic fluid for the power steering it is electronic power assist.

Corroded battery cable on the starter silanoid . Spent all day chasing a problem in the fuse box/relays/computer /ect. . If he wouldn't have told me about the stereo I would have found I a lot sooner. Oh well a least I get my truck back tomorrow .
