i was trying to figure out why the front of my 83 cutlass supreme sat so high. i looked at the springs and found out thay are about the size of a nickel. my 87 cutlass supreme had smaller around front springs and sat lower. was the 83 supreme made with thicker front springs? the blue car is my old 87 supreme and the tan one is the 83 supreme i have now.

 

Most likely the springs were replaced with something larger to make it ride higher.
The 83 and 87 springs were all similar. There were stiffer springs available at extra cost, but they did not make the car ride higher.

 

what would be stock mesurements for the front springs? i looked on ebay and im seein 5.5" x 11" and do thay have to be off of a cutlass or can thay come from other makes and models?

 

Look up on Rockauto.com and find your car - year, engine, and with or without AC.
Find the Moog spring that matches your application. (in suspension/coil spring)
Then look up the part number here for technical specs:

Moog springs are good and when the right ones are used, ride height is pretty close to stock.

 

I remember back in the late 80's thru the mid 90's or so when there was a lot more A/G bodies on the road ... I used to see quite a few with that nose up stance.

I'm gonna go out on a limb & say there was some bad info (perhaps still is) in regards to replacement springs.

Maybe there was no breakdown of V6 vs V8 or even V8 diesel ? when looking up replacements ?.

There was just way too many cars I saw like that ... & they certainly weren't like that when they were new sitting on dealer's lots that I can remember.

 

Take your cut off tool out of your toolbox and slice off 1/2 coil... presto! You now have a lower ride height!

 

It was very popular to put 20" and 22" wheels and tires on any Cutlass not too long ago.
