upper control arm bushing in differential housing

Anybody have any tips how to press the upper control arm bushing into the differential housing. The problem is that the housing interferes with the C clamp style bushing press base and cup needed to press the bushing through.

Hope there is a thread somewhere on this.

Thankss

A piece of pipe the correct diameter and a Big F'n Hammer have always worked for me.

I've recently picked up the correct Kent-Moore tool for this, but I haven't had the chance to use it yet. You can likely fabricate one yourself.

That would require some serious fabrication.

I was wondering about trying a BFH...I have a few of those.

Thanks

No serious fabrication.

A couple of pipe nipples, threaded rod, and a translation bearing from a harmonic balancer installer.

I strongly discourage the BFH method. If you crack or break the axle housing ear, there is no fixing ot.

Or this:

Look under tools.

You'd have to try to break it, even if you miss the bushing completely. If it breaks, you've found a pre-existing flaw (or you're using a REALLY big hammer...).

It only interferes on one side. I made a shallow adapter plate for the c clamp to back the pressure I needed to press it in. It's not as hard as you think.

This guy knows what he's doing. I followed his video on removal and installation. Easy peasey except don't forget to oil the new bushing before attempting to hammer them in. Also, I froze mine to shrink. Hope this helps:

I also used the correct size pipe/ball joint service kit sleeve and a BFH to install new bushings in my 10 bolt. Worked fine.
