Intermediate Steering Shaft Spring Clip

This clip was holding the pot joint seal on the ISS. I pounded it down the end of the shaft with a screwdriver. No idea how this is getting back on over shaft and rubber seal. Is there a special tool like a type of pliers I need?

I sort of spread it out a little to relax tension. I greased the boot to make it slide easier, then was able to use needle nose vice grips to spread the tangs just enough to work it into place. It took a bit of fiddling, but it's possible. I assume the factory had some special tool.

Thanks bry593. I followed your advice and made it work. One of the tabs broke off in the process but it doesn’t affect the clip. I bet you are right about the factory having a special tool.
