how to lower

Hi, I got a question about lowering. I want to lower my 1952 Eighty Eight. I already found a solution for the rear: http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Univer...nch,35756.html

But I don`t know what to do with the front coils
I cannot cut them off, cause its not allowed here in Germany.

Any ideas??? Grateful for any possibilities!!!

Thanks

Not allowed?!? Who's going to know? Do they have a book that states the exact spring coil count for every vehicle back to 1952? You could always just heat the spring red and it will lose its strength in that area, thereby creating a "worn out" spring that still looks the same.

Wow, "don't allow" - pretty much anything is allowed here.

I know, thats why I want to go to America later...

My problem is, if anybody finds out I get in really big trouble...
So if there are some shorter springs for the front I`d get them.

Last option is to cut them off...

Nobody will notice it
I know of at least two cars with cut coil springs!
Sure it always depends on the TÜV-Inspector, but most of them don't know anything about us cars!
Just make sure your brake lines are nice, the tires are good, that it runs and drives good without any noises, and your lights have to work, all of them!
That was the experience I've made so far with four §21 approvals.
Could have been luck, too
Or you could do it after it has been inspected...

Why not after?
Might be but the height is listed on the official data-sheet, which you have to order.
He won't measure your car, though!
And only the maximum height is listed not the minimum height
In the end it''s your choice what you do

I got a pretty good guy at the tüv. I think he would be very enthusiastic to see such a car that he doesn`t mind how high or low it is, if its not too much. I also want to get some number plates that he can drive around the block, then he is happy and probably me too

It was just a joke The company sure is a lot more experienced than I am.
Make this dream come true It will be a long trip but fun!
There's also a big US car show in suisse every year at the end of June!
But I don't trust my car enough yet

Kai- there are companies in US that can probably make any height coil spring you need. Not sure of cost.

I'd be more concerned about the king pin front suspension with lowering springs, but 50s cars were lowered all the time back then so it can be done.

You can get custom-built coil springs in germany as well!
But it might still be cheaper to get them made in The US and shipped..don't know

Here is what I am doing in the front...

https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...frame-off.html

I had springs custom wound 3" shorter than stock and paid $300. for all 4.
