Frame Removal - Can I leave Front Clip in Place?
Was drinking beers with my neighbor while looking at my basket case 442 Convertible.
He thinks that I can remove the body from the frame as a complete unit...front clip in place. I bet him $25. that it couldn't be done without bending up/screwing the front metal. For the record- I do have a lift in the garage.
Anybody know if it's possible...pictures?
Sorry in advance for wasting time on a stupid question.

The problem is the front fenders bolt to the body at the cowl, door frame, and lower body. Not saying it can't be done, but you would have to lift the rear and slide it back on the way out, and reverse the process on the way in.

I believe the weight of the front end sheet metal would be too much to be sustained by the mounting bolts at the cowl area..... I would recommend to pull the front end complete (one piece), your job will be much easier, IMO....

I think we'll call the bet a wash and drink more beer.
Sounds like the weight of the front body would cause damage due to no support when lifted off the frame.
Sooner or later the body is coming off the frame.... not ready to open that can of worms.
Thanks again Gentlemen

It's not a hard project to remove the fenders and core support anyways. A couple of beers and their off. Besides, you can re install them and align them properly without any damage. I like my beer also, however, none when working on my cars.
