Hello everyone, Can anyone out there tell me about the quality of the Thornton repro air cleaner bases? My original one seems to have walked away and hid from me so I may need to find a replacement. Everything I have heard about Thortons parts has been very good, so I was wondering if any of you have seen,or purchased one of theirs, and can speak to the quality of this part? I have an extra one, a real one or should I say an original one or maybe an original one made in 1970, whatever its the whole set up though and I'd prefer not to separate it. I have some one on this list who has first dibs but let me know if you have interest.

 

On the subject you posted on......are you talking about the metal base or the part that sits on top of it (the plastic "Flapper" assembly)?

The repop bases are very nice.However,as with all repop parts,they are not exact.Yes,the base could be,but there are subtle differences to tell them apart with the trained eye.The spot-welds are a little different in appearance,compared to the original ones.I'm sure that once you get it all mounted on your car,it will be difficult to notice,standing outside of the engine bay.
