72 442

What I am looking for is a 1972 442 (real).
Must be automatic on the floor.
Rollers welcome
I am prepared to pay for an interior that needs no work beyond carpet and seat covering.
I am not prepared to pay for something that needs quarters or rust repair.
I am ok with Bill of Sale only

FYI: This project is due to owning a Thorton OAI hood for a 72 (bought it at good deal). I have the mill, transmission, rear end ready to be installed out of performance parts collected last year. This should give you a better idea on what I am looking to pay for.

As always thanks in advance.

So what you're looking for is basically a turnkey 72 Cutlass, Cutlass S,(both of these were available in a post model) or Cutlass Supreme convertible with floor shift AT. I'll go out on a limb and ask if you know how to prove a 72 is a real 442 since in 72 it could be ordered with any engine ( 350 2bbl, 350 4bb, 455 L75, and 455 L77) And since you're going to restomod it anyway, why worry? 72 is the most cloned 442 in the world. The numerals and grills are your add ons; no need to change anything on the interior either, remove the rocker trim and re-drill the fenders and deck lid for numerals. I won't suggest anything for the suspension to match the FE2 since you're going your own way. The ONLY 72 442 that can be documented through its VIN is the W30 (X code cars) and precious few of those were built in 72.

IMHO you're looking for something that won't end up being a 442 from the factory anyway. Keep your costs down with a good turnkey car and build it as you wish. In your case I think the 442 badging is just cosmetic. You must also be aware that the 442 was never offered in the Cutlass Supreme Hardtop. Good luck with your quest.
