Nice, keep in mind there is technically and in reality. PPI may not recommend my 69 for overly long distance trips either. But I assure you I have complete confidence in my car as is. I know I could get in it as we speak and go cross country and back safely and without a concern in the world. The seller believes in his car.
I wish I knew enough about this model to put you at ease. But I don't. However looking into it across multiple pro and con threads, and customer experiences. It comes up reliable, comfortable, and with an outstanding engine, up to at least 240,000 miles. Double this Trofeos current mileage.
I'm excited for you just scrolled the facebook post, pics and video again, car looks great. And I think you can tell I have a clear penchant for black cars.
As I mentioned I am most familiar with 1964-1988 Olds. But I expect this Trofeo to be impressive. At its initial price point it was supposed to be. The 98, Oldsmobile's 2nd inline as far as luxury and quality cost 20% less. The price difference between the two models was so great you could buy another new car in 1989 with it.
Thank you Im excited as well just booked the shipping for it. Getting it to 240,000 miles would be great. Glad im getting a high quality engine.
This vid was just recommended to me. If you haven't already seen it, I think you will appreciate it. Spoiler alert... the uploader loves the car. He like yourself also prefers the 86-89 over the extended final iteration. If you want to cut to the chase go to the 6:00 minute mark and forward. Prior to that is mostly a history lesson. Also an extensive overview of the VIC in operation at the 8:00 minute mark.
11 months ago One of my late uncles who was born in 1919 owned several great cars throughout his 100 years of life. His absolute favorite was a gold ‘88 Toronado. He liked the size, the features, and loved the 3800 V-6. He owned it for 20 years and over 200k miles.

Wow I never saw a Gold one. Just googled it, nice color on it.
We agreed to the deal. He’s throwing in a spare air shock part (which is supposedly super rare) and other spare parts.
Good to hear that you came to a deal. Make sure you post some pics when you get it.
If you need to replace the rear shocks I recommend NOT using the OE air shocks. I tried to replace the rear shocks in my 96 98 with the OE air shocks and they quickly failed. I even tried a spare air compressor I got from the salvage yard to no avail.

Thanks. I believe this is the part he is referring that is a rare air shock. Not sure if you can confirm what it is? I wouldnt know myself.
That looks like the rear air shocks I installed in my 96 98. It's just a shock with an air fitting. The non-air shock doesn't have that fitting.
Be aware that you might be limited in the suspension parts you can get for that car though. I seem to remember that the front struts are as rare as hen's teeth.
How does she feel on the road, or are we still savoring the moment of unboxing so to speak...
Im getting plates on Monday. The stinky DMV here on Long Island only takes appointments. I took her around the block a few times and she feels great to me. Taking alot of discipline to go no further than that for now lol.
Hello! Figure I give an update.
The car is still running great. Put a new headliner and converted the AC. Radio and cassette deck do not work but I got the Bluetooth to work! Sound quality is impeccable, especially with the subwoofer in the trunk. Only issue I had so far was the breaks gave out and had to get a brake accumulator and pump motor assembly. They work good now. Heat works fantastic now in the winter months. Have put in a little over 2,000 miles. What a luxury ride!
Good to know she's running great. If you still have them, make sure you keep the brake parts that failed. It's not worth the $30 core charge, especially since parts for our classic cars are getting harder find. If needed, you can always get most parts professionally rebuilt.
