how bad was the 68?

It was pretty much as scary as it looks, although, to be honest, the body didn't look too bad in the minute or two I spent near the car. I couldn't get a photo of the interior because the owner was hanging closely around the vehicle, and he didn't have the windows down. But it looked OK.

But that engine compartment really gave me pause as it looked like he hadn't done a thing under there. All I could think of is, if this is what the engine looks like, what does the underside or trunk look like? I didn't talk to him at all to find out what he had done to the car, if anything. If he took anything of the engine apart, he certainly didn't clean it up before putting it back together.

The 68 was rough. He was asking $3500 or best offer. For a running driving car, I thought it was a fair starting point anyway.

I drove 260 miles (each way) to go to that event based on the website. I think they way over-billed it. 4000 vendors? It was more like a few hundred, unless I missed another 75 acres. I saw very little parts for 68-69 cutlasses. The Scout event has some pretty nice trucks though.

260 miles each way? I'm impressed. I drive about 120 each way.

This is the third one in a row of these I've been to. The spring version is much bigger in terms of vendors (almost twice as large I would say), which isn't surprising given that that's when everyone is waking up from their winter hibernation and are eager to get going on their cars for the summer.

I was also at their fall event a year ago, and I would say that it was a bit larger in terms of vendors than this year. Perhaps it's the economy and fewer vendors are willing to make the trip or to pay whatever it costs to set up.

As far as Oldsmobile parts, 68-69 Cutlass or otherwise, I don't think you'll ever find much at a swap meet of this size. It's pretty much 90% Ford and Chevy, 5% Mopar, and 5% everything else.

But for $7 admission, including parking, I find it a nice way to spend half a day. I love strolling the aisles just looking at all the stuff. I'm always picking up another tool or something.

You do sometimes see some interesting cars in the car show or car corral. I loved the early 60s (?) Renault Dauphine. My father had one of those when I was about 2 or 3 years old, and he still talks about it.
