Oh yes, very strong dollars for a verifiably fake 442. Looks like after 8 months the seller lowered the price from 70k to 65k, according to the comments. And the comments there pull no punches. Not sure what decoder they used, but it was born a 160 hp 2bbl Cutlass. And its not W29...
Wondering if the current owner took a bath and is just trying to recoup with that outrageous price.
They almost had me as a genuine 442 with perfectly mucked up side stripes until I saw the emblem mis-alignment on the trunklid. Yikes. That bumper droop and tailpipe exit looks terrible.
WAY too much money for this one. But, if some fish bites the bait, so be it. I know it won't be me.
Fantasy money for a Faux Four Two that was originally a VIN H 350 2bbl single exhaust car. I do give them credit for not succumbing to the repro hood and wing disease. I always liked the 1972 hood stripes. Of course it has the incorrect cutout bumper on a 350 car.
What are 72 Cutlii currently priced at on Hemmings? If it's local you could always meet the seller and offer $X0,000 if it drives nice. It looks to be pretty straight from the pics. Definitely something that would be fun to drive to the local Cars and Coffee
If the work was done at a shop, I'm sure the seller has that much into it. Paint and body work was probably $20-$25K alone. Still doesn't make it worth that much. I'm well underwater on everything I own, and I do all my own work.

My 72 original 442 with factory OAI on a 455 motor has incorrect stripes after I finally repainted it. The Phoenix Graphics stripe stencils were the correct line spacing for the stripes BUT, they were cut to the lower position like the 1970 442's. I left them that length because the way the stencils were cut, I had to change the shape to match the wheel openings.....especially where straight line met the wheel wells(the placement doesn't bother me)! Also, the trunk lid stripe was 3/4 in short on each end of the trunk (like for a convertible). I called Phoenix Graphics and bitched about it and gave them the correct measurement and they re-cut and sent me a new one.
Any rate, I have the original window sticker for the car to prove what it is. Built in Arlington Texas I haven't actually located a build sheet/card but there is a paper in the underside of the back seat which is most likely one. I'll only get it if I ever re-cover the rear seat.
Yep, seen way too many 71/72 442 with the side stripes (non-W cars) with the 70 body break line hugging style. The 71/72 had triple stripes where the 70 had dual. Interestingly, the 72 steel hood stripes were decals that split and went around the louvers, where the 71 steel hood center stripe was painted, measured from the outside edges of the hood inward.
More from the "stripe police" files:
Side stripes should look more like this below if you wish to stay with the factory look, but the new car brochures like for 71 even had a lot of little "drawings" of the side views of all the models in the back of the brochures with 70 style stripe drop.

There is no vaccine available to minimize "repro hood and wing disease?" ............
