Today, I had a guy waste 9 hours of mine and my son's time and a couple hundred in expenses, got the cash out of the bank, towed a car trailer from Albany Oregon to Grants Pass Oregon for this advertisement:
"72 olsmobile gutlass 450 hp NoS optional equipment new paint new interior new motor over 💲20k invested ive owned this car 23 yrs title in hand 💲10,600."
It had one picture of a White Cutlass and one engine picture. I asked for more but he said the car was across town. The pictures were old, The paint had rust bubbles all the way down the roof driprails on both sides. Both rear quarters had rust pushing the paint out at least 1/8 of an inch the size of a baseball. The grill had been broken because he claimed he backed a sandrail into the car. He talked like it was a standard black interior that a guy had re-upholstered for him in trade and claimed he traded a $3200.00 car for. The front buckets were the only black part and they were aftermarket sport seats. The rest of the interior was done in gray fabric and looked like crap. There was mold on the interior and the floor was damp. There appeared to be spray foam under the carpet on the passenger side, I never looked under the drivers side. The wheels in his picture are not whats on the car. The car was sitting in a field way behind the house and had been there long enough it was almost on the frame. He had told me that the car was drive-able and that I could drive it from Grants Pass to Albany. There wasn't even a battery and I didn't stick around for him to even start the car but the tires were mismatched and were not DOT legal the rear passenger wheel had only 2 lugnuts, I didn't check the others. After telling him that it wasn't what he described he claimed that he had $8,000.00 into the engine and $3000.00 on the heads alone so basically I would only be paying $2500.00 for the car. Then told me that he didn't feel bad that I wasn't buying the car as he wasn't sure if he could get it out of the field today as it was so wet. My son told him that he should repost the ad with the correct information and asked if he was going to adjust the price as the car wasn't as described. He said he was going to fix the add and repost it for 13,500 instead...his name is Brandon...nothing but lies. Hope this post saves someone else the time. If this isn't allowed please let me know.
It's on Facebook Marketplace. "roseburg cars and trucks for sale or trade". Looks like the guy has quite a few vehicles listed. Photos in his profile look like he's too young to have owned the car for 23 years. Or he should be old enough to realize work done 20 years ago can no longer be called "new" lol.
What a jerk. People like that blow me away. What do they think is going to happen when a potential buyer comes out and it isn't as described? What a jerk.
I was so upset/confused about why the car wasn't even close to what he said that I just wanted to leave. After we left my son said we should have got some pictures too. Also said we should have had him start the car and test drive it just to waste his time like he did ours. If anybody else is in that area they could ask to see the car and take some pictures for the forum.
While your time and money wasted sucks, there are soooooooooo many red flags here. First, the spelling errors of "olsmobile gutlass". Second, only two pics -- FB allows up to 21, so anything less than that for an old car should always be a hard pass. Third is using emojis in the ad description. Fourth is the lack of an adequate description -- FB doesn't limit like Twitter. Anytime a seller can't be bothered to send you more pictures, then you should have known in advance that the car was not going to be as claimed.
At least he didn't employ the "wet car" trick, where he sprays it down to make the paint look shiny for pictures.
