I think it is also listed on 442.com, so you can get an idea of where he wants the bidding to go.

very cool car. I don't know much about the W31 market but seems to me that 15k would be the limit as far a s a"good buy" goes. You'd have to put in another 20 - 30k wouldn't you? What are these cars worth when completed? 30 - 50?

If anyone is interested in this car, there is another member on here who is friends with the seller. I do not want to disclose who this member is, but I am sure he will chime in when he reads this thread. I'd bet that he would be willing to try to help someone out if they were interested in it. He knows this car well.
I do know that the seller is known around here as a very respectable Olds guy.

That would be sweet with big wheels , big brakes and air bags.

JK That would be one of the few cars I would do a 100% original restoration on....

Be interesting to see where this goes, it is almost a 14k now and it is listed on 442.com for 15+k. If I was at 14k I'd bite the bullet and just buy it, seems to be a good buy for the 15k.

because it will take 20 - 30k to do it right at the minimum correct, and then what do you have a possibly 55k car worth 30 - 40k. Look at the last few that have sold or been up for sale, all really nice and none have been more than what..... 30 - 35k

I agree with Andy if you look at the pics you see the car has a lot of body filler. Its sad but being a forty year old car times not on its side. Is it worth restoring maybe. I would have to see it in person.

In my opinion, the car obviously has some rust but I would not call it a rust bucket. This is a very restorable rare car.

As usual, you have nothing positive to say about anything except your valve covers.

i only speak the facts,if you can't take it,that's your problem.

i actually was interested in buying this car from a previous owner, and was told the car is a rustbucket from somebody that saw it up close.

i bet if you pull the fenders off that w-31,the cowl is rotten.the window channels are already gone.

as for my valve covers,my valve covers actually sell, and are in excellent condition when i sell them.

by the way,the person that buys them from me doesn't try to sell them a year later.

as for agtw31, i would buy a set of your covers in a second if i was not such a purest. i am one of those guys that would paint an aftermarket intake the engine color

Are there REALLY that many car guys who can't polish and highlight paint their own valve covers? I'm not especially talented, but even I was able to do that back when I ran M/Ts on my Jetstar.

Or is it that some guys would rather pay someone a couple bucks an hour for their labor than do it themselves?

BTW I found that laundry detergent did wonders cleaning stains in the aluminum (wife wouldn't let me try the dishwasher). Just a little tip to help with the "piecework"...

I have to agree with Andy.
Most cars are POOR investments at best (including my own), and I am sure with the rust, this one will cost a wad of cash to do the car decent.
Not many people want to spend $200-$500 on a decent valve job, even if it means that their car will run correctly for a change. But they will, for a set of finished valve covers because they look good when the hood is popped.
If it works for Andy, good for him.
Jim
