Why paint stripes if you are keeping the chrome. My chrome was in rough shape which is why I had stripes painted 27 years ago.

Because the law says that every 1970-72 Cutlass MUST have ersatz W30 stripes. I'm amazed the car doesn't have a repro hood and wing also.

that's funny. When I had my car done, the Cutlass wasn't really collectable. Just a $2500 driver with a $2500 paint and body job. How things have changed.

Boy amen to that. Oh the old days of cheap fun cars. Now people turn Cutlasses into fake 442's. Plenty of people don't care and keep shelling out Stupid Money.

Those wheels aren't that bad, but they look dumb with drum brakes. Glad to see Joe and Oldsfan were able to restrain themselves from commenting on the SS trunk stripes.

There's an artistic trend in some segments of the population to "walmart accessorize" cars. This is when you have a car, like Mom's old grocery getter, and you're a poor kid, but you're desperate to have style, so you get cheap accessories from anywhere, and it's lipstick on a pig. There's also the trend to over-display anything shiny or ornate, i.e. bling, and that has been theorized by either newly-rich lack of taste and refinement, or, more charitably, a historical need to broadcast the appearance of wealth after being recently poor. Either way, it's extremely try-hard; money can't buy taste.

But, but... That's what the JC Whitney catalog was for!
