69 442 worth?

A buddy has found a garage stash with a complete 69 442. Nothing special, bucket seat and automatic. Air car. i haven't seen it to check out the engine, dash, chrome, etc. Any guesses what it will spin for? White car, vinyl top, blue interior

Pictures would help. Body, trim and glass condition are all important in price. How long as it been since it was started? How many miles are on it.

Was in a garage for 20 some odd years without starting. Don't have any pics yet but might be able to gat some later. No stripes, all glass good, no rust bubbles showing under the vinyl roof. Very little body damage, just some small whisky bumps.

Impossible to discuss w/o more info.
No pics, no info as to engine/transmission, interior condition...
Heck, you don't even mention whether it starts.

Not trying to be rude, but just observing that you are asking the impossible.

NADA says a working "low retail" car is $10k up to $65k for an excellent W-30. Need to determine where your car is on that scale or what it would take to get it there. Could be a couple grand worth of parts or true diamond.

I've seen a couple 69 442 on CL lately. Here is some of their asking prices.

Black 1969 442 - $11500
http://www.oldsmobilecentral.com/201...--trion-ga.php

1969 W-32 - $14500
http://www.oldsmobilecentral.com/201...-island-ny.php

Teal 1969 442 - $10,000 (by member here)
http://www.oldsmobilecentral.com/201...-ab-canada.php

1969 Gold 442 - $10,000
http://www.oldsmobilecentral.com/201...-boring-or.php

List of some over the past month...
http://www.oldsmobilecentral.com/v4/...=1969&limit=20

I hope that information helps. Keep in mind on the CL ones, I can't speak for the condition and "truth" on what a car is.

Just assume it is a piece of $hit garage car that is all original, engine does not run, trans may not shift, paint is crap, interior is worn, chrome needs replating or polishing, no desirable options, and it all needs to be restored. Hows that?

What's the price of scrap metal these days?

Maybe a couple grand. If he wanted to put time and effort into it, he could likely part it out for a tad more.

Put some pictures up. Plenty of people here will buy. Hell, I'll even make an offer! I do love those 69's...

Can't get pics, but this car can be bought for $1500 or less. It also has power windows. Someone close to Dallas can get a buy if they want it. I'm sure the owner will not arrange shipping or anything else related to the sale. I haven't seen the car but a dealer here is the one that was looking at it. He isn't interested at all, even for a parts car. I'm not interested because i just don't like the 68-72's.

If you can get it for under $1500 you should check it out. You might be able to buy it, give it a bath and flip it making some good money to spend on a project more to your liking. Power windows is a plus, I wonder if it has power door lock, power drivers side seat, cruise? These kinds of options can be found together and will move the value of the car upwards. If it has the correct engine/transmission that would be important. Then if it has the correct bolt on's like carb, notched valve covers, distributor, etc. that too will push the value upward.

I know I'm an optimist, but you never know what's there until you crawl over it. Several years ago I replied to an ad selling a 1969 442 W30 on Craigslist. When I read the ad I thought "yeah, right" as his asking price was $600. When I walked into his garage and saw the red fenderwells I caught my breath. Most of the good stuff was missing, but the body is solid and it's the real deal. Another pleasant surprise I found was in the mid-1990's I purchased a 1976 Cutlass. The guy had worked in a wrecking yard back in the 1980's and when a munched 1970 W30 came into the yard he grabbed the F heads. I paid $950 for the car wearing the F heads and drove it a couple years before pulling them. So... maybe it's a turd, maybe its a gem, or likely somewhere in between. But if it's local and you've got the time I'd encourage you to check it out. John

It's in Texas?

And more or less complete?

Way hella more than $1500

GO GET IT
wash it and CL/ebay it if someone on your favorite board doesn't ****** it right away.

Won't start? How is THAT a problem? Good Lord, I have dozens of engines waiting for cars to be in. Some of them even still run. No-start is NOTHING compared to NO FRAME and NO FLOOR.

We just cannot find any rustfree cars to revive anymore here in MI.

Flip it and be happy

Even if you don't like the 68 to 72's a 69 442 for 1500???? WTF that would be a no brainer. It could be parted for double that in return easily. Hell, I bought my S for 1500 and it was in probably worse shape than what that 442 is. Passing on a complete not all beat up 69 442 is a tad on the WTF side bud. LOL

Easy on your response... I agree he could pursue it to re-sell if not keep. But another member discussed scrap price in his comment. He'll have to read through our threads and decide what to do.

I paid $1800 for an original W-30 69 442 in 1989. It had a different motor in it but the red wells were there. I put 10k into that car. What a beauty.

I passed on a 68 442 for $1500 this spring. It was a rusted POS that I would have been lucky to break even on the parts that were on it. I apologetically offered him $900 and he refused. I'm glad he did.

Call me what you want, but I'm just not interested in even parting it out. I will try to help anyone that wants information. Already have a local PM that is interested.

Cool! I hope someone saves it as the details you shared make it sound like a decent project car to me

Followed by a .

That post largely reflected the lack of info or even a dark, blurry photo, and was in response to a post inviting us to assume the worst. Yeah, it could be the find of the century, but I guess I tend to be cynical in the absence of information.

Sure, if it is all there, there likely is some $$$ there for someone willing to put in the time and effort. Whether the return is worth the time and effort involved is for each person to decide for themself.

Hey guys, don't shoot the messenger! $1500 is a great buy for someone, all they need to do is step up and pull the trigger!
