1977 Starfire 4-Speed on Bring a Trailer

Not mine, but I am disturbed that I've been studying this car. I do like the way that the stripes take 90's on the hatch.

This car has been for sale a number of times over the last year. The fact that it's still for sale suggests the asking price is above market.

That is an ugly car in my opinion. It is hard for me to call that a Starfire.

At first, I kinda like the stripes on the first photo of the trunk. Then I saw the stripes on the side and felt the urge to puke. The stripes on the side kinda give the appearance the car is sagging in the middle, like it’s melting in the sun. The interior appears nice and clean, and definitely has that late 70s look.

The brands”X” engine would have to go. I don’t give a damn about the factory cross breeding, the Chevy engine would have to be replaced with proper motivation.

A 455 with the 4 speed would be a lot of fun.

You don't see many around ,this one looks to be nice except the crazy paint scheme. The chevy motors and v-six buick engine are pretty popular in them .I was tempted to squeeze an olds motor into the 80 i had but, it would've been a ton of work ,those h body engine bays are narrow.Im glad it went to a good home.

I like it. The current price does not seem too high given the body kit (although I believe it does not have all the Mirage pieces, which should include fender flares).

It has the Mirage "widebody" fender panels on it. The stripe is right above the top of the flare, so they aren't as obvious in the Starfire photos.

Man I despise non factory stripes. What freaking line were they following to dip down like that? What stripe is lamer than trunk lid stripes? Roof stripes. If that had no stripes at all I would like it. Looks like a clean car.

definition of Mirage
something illusory, without substance or reality

no false advertising here, I don't see a Starfire, do you?

Let's think about this ...... 1977. Mushrooms and PCP were major influences in the application of those stripes.

Neat car and a fun '70s time warp, but I can't personally stomach the stripes. I hope it finds a good home.

I hate the stripes, too. Having owned one of these H-bodies in the past with the Iron Duke 2.5, I bet this car is fun to drive. However, I hated my Monza-Olds* (or was it Buick) that I'd never EVER consider buying one of these.

*car was a Monza, but someone put either an Olds or Buick H-body front header panel on it due to being wrecked. Two headlight car had become a four headlight... man, I hated getting brights flashed at me all the time in that thing.

I have long regarded GM's slip into horrible styling to be in 58 and 73. They had climbed out of it by the early 60s for the first one, but they didn't get out of the second one till the mid 90s or so. That leads to the question of where the lowest point of mid-70s to mid-90s style was, and I believe we have found it.

This car has everything bad from 1973 forward to stuff that would carry on to about 1983.

I disagree - this body style has very pleasing body lines. I can understand if the stripes rub people the wrong way, but the profile of these cars is nice. Of course, there are people who don't like ice cream and chocolate in the world too

Sold for $16,500. That's crazy. A rising tide lifts all boats.

I’m surprised it went that high. Somebody must have really liked it!

I drove a 80 Pontiac Sunbird for a couple years (Pontiac’s version of this car) it had the 2.5 iron duke entine and automatic trans. I kinda liked that car, I would have really liked it with a good running 400 Pontiac! Too bad the tin worms liked it more. It was definitely a rusted out turd.

I had a friend who had one of these cars (can't remember if it was a Chevy, Pontiac, Olds or Buick), he had welded in a cross-member just behind the radiator between the two subframe rails to keep them from leaning inward and throwing off the front wheel alignment all the time (an apparent weakness in this design). I do remember driving another friend's V6-stick Olds and it was surprisingly fun and gutsy. I've also heard that the V8s needed to be un-bolted from their engine mounts to tip it up and access the rear sparkplugs (not a good design).

It was the number five plug only, and this was highly publicized when these cars were new. Frankly, how many of us have done engine swaps there compromises like this were needed? I never saw the need for the outrage over that. Keep in mind that this is the Vega platform and was never intended to carry a V8.

Mom loved Dad's first Vega.... he sold it and got another.... it smoked like a chain smoker. I love it that we see all kinds here.

I like the one in Joe's post better. The stripes on the one that just sold make it look odd.
