To be fair, the car looks halfway decent on a fast walk-by at 20 feet away. Further inspection shows the obvious flaws one would notice if you're an Oldsmobile fan. Some of the ugly bodywork flaws are shown at least. I'm a self-described "442 emblem placement analyst" and this is one of the worst examples of that I've seen. I must give kudos to the between-number spacing on the trunklid since 69s were a bit wider between the 4s, for example, but the 442 emblems should be a whole lot closer to the taillight than it is the trunk lock. Wow. Also the fender emblems look like they're going downhill and spaced out too far- another Stevie Wonder-style job. But to me, here's what really takes the cake. The 442 center tooth 4 is mis-aligned. I've never seen that, ever. Why? Regardless of which Cutlass level you buy, you get an emblem up front in the center, even an F85. The center holes are pre-drilled. The center 4 should fall right into place. And the bosses on the back are there for alignment of the other emblems if needed. How did that even happen?
The rear end sticker isn't a big issue for me, but it's the wrong code. Why waste the time to not even check the tube? The decal's not going to convince me it's a 69 H/O 3.42 rear end. TM maybe, but not SJ.
If I bought the car, assuming it's not a mud-filled bucket and it's mechanically sound, I'd drive it around and have fun with it. An original W-30? I'm gonna say no, I'd peel those incorrect decals off the front fender even if it was. They don't even mention it as being a W-30, so that tells you a lot.
The biggest problem(s) for me would be it has no title. Just a registration. And it's in Canada. I'd see a huge headache in getting that thing across the border. It should stay in Canada, probably. Plus, that VIN looks super-suspicious. Not even 100% sure it's a 442. I don't think that's the correct font for the numbers/letter.
The VIN on that BAT car looks like it was made with one of those old Dymo label makers, way different from my 69 H/O vin 'font'...
Bring A Story has become such a dumping ground. So many sketchy cars are allowed to roll on thru. Fools keep bidding so what do I know. Authenticity means absolutely nothing anymore.
I have a 69 hardtop so the listing interested me to look at. The bodywork on that car looks really suspect and crusty. If it looks like that in pictures, in person is bound to be worse. Too much suspect on this car to get me excited. Buyer beware on this one imo.
I am forever blown away at the defense for sketchy cars these days. Rule number one. Questionable vin number starts it all. Resale red. Slapped together to scam. Period. Good luck to anyone foolish enough to spend good money for a car that will need everything. Including a valid vin stamp. I Love dealer speak. "Consistent with that of a 1969 442" That vin is so obviously not factory. Sad world. Go get it. Bring A story could care less.
I just saw this post and was going to add it to get other thoughts, but apparently you guys have the same thoughts I did. Thanks for being a great group.
One good thing is that they're pretty honest about the car's flaws. Pretty accurate description as far as it goes -- but it makes you wonder what they're not telling you.
