There is a 1966 442 W30 posted on e-bay with matching numbers from the UK no less. Great looking car.

"1966 Oldsmobile 442 W30.

Target Red with Black bucket seat interior, very rare W30 Tri-Power with a manual gearbox, this car has had one owner for the last 15 years, its is totally correct and in concours condition, this is probably the best one for sale this side of the Pond, with a large History file it drives as good as it looks, with is numbers matching engine 10.25:1 Compression and 360 HP 3 x 2 bbl carbs, through it four speed Muncie close ratio gearbox, it will pound the road with its correct chrome Magnum steel wheels shod with beautiful red line tyres, you had better hold onto you hat as it propels you up the road and will put a huge smile on your face.

In 1966 Oldsmobile 442 W30. Number 15 or 54 built for homologation for C stock drag racing. Delivered new to Texas but early history not known until 83 when titles indicate car still in Texas. Bought in 1986 by Stohlman prestigious long time Oldsmobile dealers in Washington DC. Stohlman embarked on a full frame off restoration using all NOS parts. Car was kept as window dressing in DC showroom. The W30 was purchased in 2000. Since restoration circa 2000 miles done. Car completely authenticated by Curt Anderson who keeps the 66-67 Oldsmobile W30 register and is the supreme historian for this era. "

i always think about the turquois post car that was in my neighborhood as a young man..it was a 66 W30..

i wonder if anyone knows of it or where it went...the last time i saw it, it was behind a small building, on a back lot of a small body shop in High Ridge Mo...guy that had it was aware what it was etc...that was circa 1987..

right down the street from it was a Dickie Harrell 427 435hp 67 Impala SS427..ready for this? L89..(lots of documentation).its still there, but a machine shop stole his heads around 84.....and i saw that car in the early 80s the first time...wow..im wandering

 

Skeptical about the L89 from the factory. Since it was a Harrell car, wouldn't they have added it? Or you meant the docs proved it was a Harrell car? That would be suh-weet!

 

proof it was a harrell car..i never saw the paper work..a good friend did and he said it was a real harrell car.

Its a known car...people have been trying to buy it for decades...unfortunately he put it under an army tarp and its disintegrating as we talk..a good friend of mine that restores a lot of Corvettes has talked to the guy and he said he saw the paper work..i dont know if it was a conversion...its been too long to remember what he said

The first time i saw it..it was on a main street thru south st louis...it was sitting in front of a bar..the hood was up..and I could see the triangle aircleaner....we turned around and lost our minds when we saw the alum heads...you have to remember in 81 or 82 that stuff was so rare and so unusual to see...we..the guys i ran with...argued and almost fist fought over the air cleaner..they thought i was lying..lol...we (4 of us) where in a Ram Air IV cardinal red GTO that lost its motor....we assumed it was a ramIV..it was on the hood so it had to be real..4 speed and 3.90s it probably was..lol...20 years later..i bought the 1/4 panel off the car for a Orbit judge..my buddy cut the car up because he needed space...and the car went to the crusher..

i remember that SS427 car like yesterday...white black guts 4 speed trips and alum heads....and the owner put a Police speedo in it..he admitted it..but it was a 140 speedo..and we where more amazed by that than the trips..lol

Later i worked at a body shop and it was 5 blocks from work...i know in the 90s, people where begging him for the car..but he held out...

i dont think it could be built now...maybe the Harrell heritage would make it worth while i dont know

hopefully someone saved it..i havent seen it since around 99

 

Tell me,what would a car with a protecto plate/original documents with the engine # that matches the head/engine be called?
I have the protecto plate/ original documents that have the head/engine # on them that matches my car. Is it not a matching # car?

 

Not much detail in text or photos to go on. . .but the grille is early, not the late style used in June 66 builds.

 

The car is legit if it's the Jim Bob Stohlman car. It was found in TX with a Cutlass front end and the original drive line missing. Not totally sure about the rear axle but pretty sure about the engine/trans. The remains were authenticated by Curt Anderson & Jim Bob built the car.

 

How did the grille change during the model year?

 

Bracket added to grill above hood latch cut out on grill.

 

Actually there were 3 different grille screens used in 66.

 

Note the vertical bars on that grille--used on the early type grille.

 

Nice ad hey? Spent alot of time on it I bet. This should be at least a 100 photo ad to gain the most interest. (My opinion)

It's one of the Stohlman cars (I think at one point he had THREE 1966 W-30 cars!). I've seen this car in the showroom back in the late 90s. Jim could certainly substantiate any claims.

 

Got an answer back from the poster today - 4.11 gears.

He says he has(d) #15 and this one is said to be #15 = same car.

 

So nobody here bought this car!!!! When mine sold for $52,000 last summer there was a hugh outcry that I sold it too cheap. This car got bid to $25,000 and nobody stepped up?

IMO his ad was weak, not nearly enough pics, and didn't even put W30 in the title. Shipping from overseas may have hindered some bids also.

Yes it is, I sort of have a vested interest in seeing it sell for a lot of dough........

 

Car is advertised elsewhere, same ad/pics, he's asking £75,000 gbp (approximately $112,500 usd) dependant on exchange rate. Beautiful looking car and in my opinion more desirable than a hemi car unless winged, due to being different to the norm, low production numbers etc. Does not seem to be much info available on this actual car, somebody here said it was found/restored but was missing drivetrain, ad says matching no's so might be a question mark there? Can't seem to find any more info other than a pic of 3 of the cars together.
