1964 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 Convertible
SOLD in February 2009. Thanks for the interest!
1964 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 convertible
394ci V8, 2bbl carb, 8.5:1 compression, 4-speed Roto-Hydramatic automatic transmission (aka Slim Jim). 38K miles on odometer: believed to be original. Black & surface rust exterior with white and blue interior and no convertible top. This car originally was Holiday red with white interior and a white top. It was repainted black by a previous owner in 1989. The interior was completely reupholstered (amateur level) in white at the same time. The car was improperly stored from 1990-2005, where moisture damaged the paint, chrome and interior. The car is 100% stock; it runs and drives great, but looks ratty.
Good:
New in 2008: Full tune up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points, condenser, coil), fluids & filters, brake booster, master cylinder, rear wheel cylinders, new radiator & heater hoses, thermostat and coolant, rebuilt battery tray and new battery, restored air cleaner & new filter, new door and trunk weather stripping, new wiper blades & various lights.
· Runs and drives like a 38K mile car should. Very tight and reliable.
· Car is 100% complete except for kickpanels, original radio, convertible top fabric & pump and passenger sill plate. All trim/upholstery/other items not currently on the car are included and are marked/boxed/tagged.
· Everything works except radio, windshield wipers and power top mechanism.
· Straight body, excellent panel gaps and fit.
· Front seat was recently reupholstered: a sedan rear seat is included with matching fabric. I planned on cutting down the sedan back seat upholstery and seat foam to fit the smaller convertible back seat.
· Cooper Trendsetter SE 215/75R14 tires (less than 1000 miles) on refinished stock 14” wheels. Stock hubcaps included.
· GM Service Manual included (5 volume set).
· Does not burn or leak oil.
· Convertible top folds and moves freely.
· Decent blue carpeting (to match seat) is included.
Bad:
· Michigan car: it has rust throughout. However, most panels have holes less than 1” diameter.
· 3 of the 4 floorpans have been patched. The driver’s front pan (still original) has 2 holes and needs to be patched.
· Trunk has a 2" X 2" hole near each taillight. The rest of the trunk is solid.
· Frame has a hole behind the driver’s side kickup, next to the fuel tank (non-stressed area).
· Surface rust all over car. Previous owner stripped the hood and decklid of paint and left them mostly bare metal.
· Convertible top frame needs some rust repair on header and forward folding arms.
· Convertible top pump missing and top cylinders probably need rebuilt
· All chrome is pitted: bumpers have dings & dents
· Transmission occassionally leaks at input shaft (~1 quart every 200-300 miles). Pointe Transmission in St. Clair Shores (www.patcotrans.com) said it is either the input shaft seal ($4 part) or the trans pump ($200 part). They quoted me $500 labor to repair it (drive in, drive out).
· Windshield wipers stopped working. They worked when I bought the car. I think the switch needs replaced, as it shocked me once after they stopped working.
· Fuel gauge just quit working. I checked the wiring harness and it OK. If I find time, I’ll check the sender and gauge in dash.
· The heater core just started leaking. I currently have it bypassed.
This car has been VERY reliable for me. I wanted to own a ratty driver, and this car 100% fits the bill. However, my life plans have changed and it is time for it to go cruising with someone else.
I can send lots of pictures and maintenance history via email. It is great in its current state as ratty driver, or would be a great basis for a ‘60s style Bellflower custom. The title is clear and registered in my name. Located in Royal Oak, Michigan (north side of Detroit). $1800 OBO. Call Keith at 248-259-4999 5-10pm weekdays or 10am-10pm on weekends. Email: gearheadkeith@comcast.net
