what works to rejuvinate white walls
My wide whites are getting less white and more of a cream color. I've tried all kinds of soap and cleansers steel wool and a bleach solution nothing lasts or gives me the bright white color I'm looking for any ideas on product or method to get back that new look?....Tedd

I usually just use SOS on mine and they come very clean and white but these are just not as bright...never were even when new. I'll give Wesley a try though.

I've got wide whitewall tires on my Indian chief, and have used laundry detergent (Tide, etc) and water (no particular ratio, but probably less that 1 part detergent to every 4 parts water), applied with a terrycloth towel or even one of those scouring pad/sponge combos. The attached pic was taken last year, when the tires on my bike were 8 years old, and they DO get kinda cream colored unless I re-clean them every year or so.
x2 on the SOS pads (but once the soap is gone, replace) if they're so far gone the detergent won't do it.

I Totally Agree On The Westley's Bleach White. If Extremely Yellowed, Scrub Them With A Small Brass Bristle Brush. Sounds Harsh But It Will Not Hurt The Whitewalls. We Ran A Used Car Lot For 40 Years And That's The Best Way To Bring Them Back To The Really White Color. Larry

By far the best way to clean white walls.

I have been advised to NOT use bleach on white walls (that includes Westleys Bleche White) as the bleach degrades the rubber.
I have used these on my Dad's '49 with the wide white walls and they work great (remember to wash the tires first), but they are rather expensive.

I've always used SOS pads on my RWL's but I find after a while the white starts to get thin. I'm going to start using the wipes on my RWL's too.

I have always sed Westleys tooon white wlls, white letters and the whle tire. I have never sen ny tire deterioration. I also like the way the black looks after Westleys. I've never been a fan of shiney tires.

Well after checking out five auto parts stores and not finding any Westley's in places that said they carried it (over the phone) I have found that Westley's has been bought out by Black Magic. I bought a bottle and will let you know how it works. Wished I had some of the Westleys to compare it to but if the WW go bright white I'll be happy....Tedd

I know that Wesleys works, but i have always used Comet or Ajax clenser and a stiff brush. It will make your white walls bright white if theres no curb damage, but it will help that too. it also cleans the black wall very nicely. I am also no fan of shiny tires, i never put Armour All on anything! Try the Comet its cheap and effective.

The Black Magic type Westley's seems to work very well! I was impressed. Some old stains that I have been working on everytime I wash the car just disappeared and washed off with one application. It appears that it dissolves a little layer of the white wall with every application leaving a new and bright surface exposed, I don't know how many times one could do this before the white wall would become thin but I'm a thinking it would take a bunch.....Tedd

Tedd,if the Black Magic Worked OK("Don't Fix If It Ain't Broke) But Ace Hardware Still Shows the Original Westley's brand On Their Site. (Picture Of The Bottle) And Advance Auto Parts Still Had It On The Shelves Here In Tennessee Last Week. Larry

The reason I say it was bought out is that the ben tags with the Westleys UPC numbers were still on the shelf and the UPC numbers on the Black Magic bottle matched the Westleys ben tags, that only happens if there is a agreed change of ownership.
I didn't check with ACE or Advanced but I did check with Two O'riley's a Pep Boys, Auto Zone, Napa and a independent called Rigbees ,all had their stock replaced with the Black Magic brand. No problem though as the Black Magic worked better than anything I have ever used or tried....Tedd

Yeah, Black Magic Bleche White now. Has been for a good while. Heck, Blue Coral owned them before Black Magic. Maybe the same exact stuff, just a name change?
Find a wal mart. They usually have it. If not, order it online and have it shipped to the store. Or try Amazon.com. You can get it. No excuses.
However, they claim a "new/improved" formula. I still have a bottle of Westley's original stuff so I don't need any more just yet...but wonder if it's the same stuff.

New formula?
I noticed the Black Magic doesn't smell the same as the Westley's and didn't seem to be as strong as the old stuff. It took alot more scrubbing with a bristle brush than it did back with the old Westley's. I have to wonder if they changed the formula to save money instead of increase performance.

For the yellow Firestones made in New Zealand, I found that LA Simply Awesome cleaner at Dollar Tree worked much better than Westley's WW cleaner. By the way Westley's dies not contain any bleach. I now have US made Firestones and they are really white.

I've used Bleche-White, LA's Awesome, Spray Nine, Formula 409, Simple Green, Mean Green, Purple Power.
The Bleche-White or Spray Nine work the best, but any of the others will do the job. Spray on, let sit a bit - but don't let it dry - then scrub with a stiff brush and rinse. Do it as many times as it takes to get it really clean.
Oh yeah, keep ALL of these cleaners off your window glass! They will leave permanent etched "water" spots if allowed to dry.
