Disc Brakes & SS Wheels

Joe, I'm looking to do the disc convert for my 72 cutlass coupe.. I want to keep my 14inch rally wheels. What I dont mind buying in different places.. What is the max size disc I can have and still use my rallys?

Alex, I moved your post to a new thread. Hopefully you get a quicker response this way.

If by "rally" wheels (which is a Chevy term) you mean Super Stock II/III wheels, then all SSII/III wheels clear the 10.75" factory disk brakes with the factory style calipers. Nothing larger will clear due to the backside contour of these wheels. If you have Super Stock I wheels, there are two different types. Early ones will not clear disk brakes. Later ones also fit the stock 10.75" rotors. There are vendors who sell 10" diameter aftermarket disk brake kits intended to clear the early drum-only 14" wheels. I would not waste my time or money on these.

Get either an original set of disks or a repro set of the factory disks.

Alex, here is a recent thread with some good info on factory disc setup:

From my understanding, you will either have to buy aftermarket parts to convert your car from front drum to front disc, or you will have to find a parts car.

Ok. I'm going with the 10.75" disks? Just wanted to know if anyone knows a good brand/place to get them repro?

The rotors, calipers, hoses, pads, wheel bearings, and master cylinder are all stock items available at any auto parts store. There are four repro items you need from aftermarket sources. The disk brake spindles, caliper mounting brackets, brake hose mounting brackets on the frame, and the proportioning valve. Since these are common with Chevelles, EVERYONE sells these. Check out this thread.
