1970 Olds Cutlass S Front disc conversion

Hey all, I need some help. I have ordered a front disc brake conversion kit (910-31958) and spindle kit (910-34900) from Speedway motors. The brake caliper slide pins wont thread. Its like they arent long enough. Im I doing something wrong? I followed the directions to the best of my knowledge. Anyone have any pointers or have ordered this kit before? I have included some pics of whats happening. Any help would be appreciated. All I want is to get my car back on the road. Thanks in advance everyone. I will include some pics.

Are the threads the same? Have you called the vendor?

I can't compare the threads because the Control Arms that I bought (Off a 69 LeMans) didn't come with calipers, which is why I bought the conversion kit. I emailed Speedway right before I started this thread.

Well, you can start by pulling off the calipers and seeing if the pins thread into the caliper brackets by themselves. This will tell you if the pins or caliper bracket threads are bad. Frankly, from your first few photos, it appears that you simply don't have the outboard end of the pins correctly aligned in the caliper holes. You DO need to push on the pins to overcome the friction of the O-rings in the caliper ears. Be sure the O-rings haven't been pushed out of position. Use SILICONE grease (not petroleum-based grease) on the O-rings and sliding part of the pins/sleeves. Petroleum can attack the O-rings.

I have included pictures with the pin as far as it will go on the inside. The pin threads into the bracket fine without the caliper. The pictures that I posted previously werent straight because they don't reach the other side at all.

Even when pushed.

OK, I think I see the problem. From this photo, these appear to be the pins that DON'T use the sleeve. These have the taller heads that replace the sleeves.

The original pins that use the sleeves have short heads that look like this:

Got it. I am going to get out to the garage later on this morning. I will slide the sleeves out of the caliper and see how it goes. I appreciate all the help and I will be back later on with how it goes. Thanks again!

Worked like a charm. My next question is, do I just tighten them down? Or is there a torque requirement?

Just curious how your disc brake upgrade worked out for you? I am teetering between Right Stuff and Speedway. Speedway is a much better price.

Out of curiosity, did Speedway give you options for pad replacements? Obviously, they can be bought directly from them. I wonder if there are replacement options that can be bought from local parts suppliers.

Hey, sorry about the late reply. It has actually gone pretty smooth. It has all the required pieces that you will need for the project. Other than the trouble that I had with the slider bolts as you can see above it has been pretty painless and I would recommend. I actually reached out to them as well via email before I posted in this forum and they were back to me within the next business day with the reply. Very helpful and quick to respond. As far as the pads go, I didnt enquire about any upgrades I just bought the kit as is. Im sure they would work with you if you talked to them. Hope this helps and good luck!
