Power Brake Booster: Restore or Replace?

Power Brake Booster: Restore or Replace?
The power brake booster on my '71 SX is most likely OE. It still works, but has a lot of surface rust. NAPA has a rebuilt unit for about $85, but I'm wondering if anyone has tried a restored unit. Factors would be cost and quality. This will be a driver, so show points aren't a factor here. Any recommendations?
Thanks,
Mike

I just went through this, I chose a repo as I found it to be cheaper and took less time to get. THough if you aren't planing on driving the car until next season time is on your hands. But reconditioning would be 250 a repo you can find for 120

Brakeboosters.com will rebuild and replate yours for 155 plus your cost to ship it to them.
I had it done and am happy. Since it was my own, it fit perfectly and looks totally original. No soft studs to possibly break off like on the repros.

Just sent mine off to Steve. It had been replated before and someone had sandblasted it, which causes the surface to not have that right "sheen" again after plating without a LOT of surface polishing/grinding, so he gave me some credit for my core and is selling me one - not dated coded - but put togther from some really nice pieces with excellent plating for 225.00. No good Delco Moraine front cover plate was available, so guys keep yours clean and look out for any good cores you find - they're valuable because the repo's just dont consistantly cut it quality wise, in addition to the appearance differences vs. the OE part.
Steve said for a concours quality, date coded booster w/DM stamp your now looking at minimum 600.00 for the in demand P/N's

I just got my booster back from an outfit plating with non-epa compliant cyanide cadmium, same material used back in the day, and used mostly for mil-spec/aircraft applications.
Looks beautiful, and should last a long time without special care.

other side of the coin...
I purchased a new one from getdiscBrakes , I chose a 9 inch unit as I wanted some additional clearance for my stock looking raised valve covers, fit perfect I think it is like 140 with a master cylinder...
they also have the delco morain stamped ones, ask for Todd Mcclure
