parking brake cable 71 CS convertible

When I got the car, parking brake was disconnected at pedal. Wasn't easy, but I was able to pull the cable far enough to re-connect it. Got under the car, and adjusted the equalizer to tighten the cables a little. Brake didn't engage, so then I tightened the equalizer as far as possible. Lots of resistance in the pb pedal, but it will still go all the way to the floor and not engage the brakes. What should I be looking for at this point?

Besides the equalizer, there should be 3 hooks that hold the cable taut. Are they there?

I'm not at the car so can't verify there are 3, but I can say for sure there is at least one on each side, between the equalizer and the wheels. I can also say that the equalizer is not centered in the middle of the car; should it be?

No, the equalizer should not be centered, but exactly opposite it on the passenger side, there should be a large hook that attaches to the crossmember to even the cable out.

Hmm. Can't recall for sure so I'll double check. I didn't see anything in the manual that made me think the cable wasn't run properly, but maybe I missed it. I'm hoping that's the case, because that should be an easy fix. Thank you.

Wow. Wish my undercarriage looked that nice. I'm pretty sure I don't have that passenger side hook, or at least the cable isn't running through it. Hopefully that will fix the issue. Thanks!

There are 2 different length hooks, and I think 2 different length cables. A TH400 and a TH350 transmission (for example) are different lengths. It changes where the cross member locates, that's why there are different length hooks and cables. You can get repro hooks.

Good to know. I've got the 350 tranny, so I'll keep that in mind.

Actually there is only one hook length. The TH400 requires a different front AND intermediate cable from all other transmissions (all MT, TH350, and Jetaway are the same length and thus have the same crossmember location).
