master cylinder question

brakes gave out on me this weekend (72 cutlass supreme) I discovered the master cylinder leaking from underneath, is there a gasket between the cylinder and booster or do I just have bad cylinder?

Seal on the piston is gone - between the two is also the back of the master - replace it and bleed the system!
Good time to flush out the old ancient fluid, too!

Like he said...
May be a good time to also rebuild / replace the booster if it has never been done before.

To answer the original question, yes there is a gasket between the M/C and the booster, but the purpose of that gasket is to seal the booster. As noted above, the M/C pistons have their own seals and there should be no brake fluid leaking out the back of the M/C. Time for a new one.

If you decide to go new, Rock Auto has good prices.

Sleeving the master cylinder?

Rather then replace the master cylinder and give up the original casting numbers, what about resleeving? Who is good and about waht would it cost?

Thanks.
