What would cause brake lights to flicker on and off?
72 Cutlass. Last year I converted to discs, new master, portioning valve, and booster. Ran all new brake lines.
Everything worked fine until yesterday. I figured maybe a loose wire was the issue. But the same wire runs the rear turn signal lights and those work just fine. So I turned my attention to the brake light switch.
I removed the switch and the plunger doesn’t depress all the way. Picked up a new switch and the new one does depress all the way in.
Now I am doubting the correct way to install the switch. Does the brake pedal arm need to fully depress the plunger? If I adjust the threaded rod that runs from the booster to the brake pedal, the pedal ends up sitting too high. It may be tough to tell from the photo, but if the pedal fully depresses the plunger on the new switch, the pedal sits about 2” higher that the gas pedal. This is the old switch. That’s as far down as the plunger goes.
